fialva- Mrs. Augusta J. McDanlel. a descendant of John Rock Smith who settled In Long Island In 1641 and widow of William Briggs McDaniel, former publisher of the Columbia Record, Columbia, S. C, who later was a compositor on the New York Sun, died yesterday at her home, 838 Union St. 3he was 81. Born in Brooklyn. Mrs. McDan lel was the daughter of Capt. Samuel Newly Smith. skiDDer of a sail- sud-iing ship, and Mrs. Cornelia Sarah 1944,Smith. She was baptized by Henry be-1 Ward Beecher In Plymouth Church Mrs. Augusta McDaniel, 81, Descendant of L. I. Pioneers and was a Congregationallst all her Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Women of '76 Chapter, Daugh ters oi me American Kevoiution; tne Society of Old Brooklynites and the pant siope w. c. t. u. she also active In numerous charitable and child welfare enterprises. For a number of year, she lived In Pat-chogue. Mr. McDanlel died In 1934. A daughter, Laura F. McDanlel, died In 1943. Mrs. McDaniel is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hattie D. Renner. Betsey M. and Orleanor B. McDaniel. and a neohew. Jesse Butcher. Services ill be held at 8 nm. Wednesday at the home, with the Rev. A- Kan Phillippi of the Cad- man Congregational Church, and the Rev. Stuart W. Van Cott of the Park Slope Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Green wood cemetery.
