For some time past the milkmen of Gowanus have been in the habit, in sending for their swill," to send two large wagons drawn by oxen and both teams driven by one boy or man, which is contrary to law it requiring a driver for each team. A few days since, a young man having charge of two teams and two wagons, was, on passing by the city hall arrested and brought before Justice King, who explained the law to him, and told him to imform his employer, that in ease he was caught again in the same act, he would he fined, and his employer held responsible.

The next day he passed by the city hall driving two yoke of oxen but they were both attached to same wagon. To the rear of this wagon, was fastened another one of the same size thus putting both yoko to one wagon, but drawing two. By this manoeuvre the driver does the same work, as be did before. between Lafayette and Be Kalb avenues you would very much oblige those who reside near there who do not wish to be poisoned with the stench from pig stys and stables. Filth brings cholera and it is the duty of the city officers to entirely prevent the keeping of pigs in the city. The avarice of a few who are benefitted by keeping those animals should not be penninted to en danger the lives of others and when the fears of the community are awakened as they are now by the appearance of the cholera among us, it is a favorable time to move in the matter. Fort Green. The hoc tens.

The street inspector of thelst district was at work yesterday afternoon, engaged in destroying the hog pens in the Cth ward. He had with him three colored men, armed with shovels and axes, who performed the work of razing to the ground, the habitations of the hogs. Four of the city marshals were also employed as a reserve corps, in case an attack was made upon the coloreil men wliilst in the discharge of their duty. A number of pens near the Hamilton ferry were taken down, and the hogs set at liberty, winch they appeared to enjoy very much. Some of the pens were left their owners promising to have them taken away to day, the inspector giving them warning, that if they were not, he would next week destroy the whole of them.

A few had taken the precaution to sell their hogs and one lady had had her pens cleaned a id whitewashed: she appealed to the inspector to know if he could make a nuisance out of it it was cleanerjthan many a kitchen of your large brick houses. It was in truth very clean, and had evidently been prepared for the occasion. The inspector proceeded with his forces thence, to the otherside of Smith street between Baltic and Butler, where we left him, enga gaged at the work of destruction. No opposition was offered the owners apparently satisfied that the law would have its way. The Star reiterates the opinion that the late administration was remarkably upright and pure.

"We wonder whether it was as pure as the oil wliich it used in the city lamps. The Eagle seems to tliink it something extraordinary that a "Whig paper should dare to make conplaints against a Whig administration. It has lied and stuck to it when its party has been in power and done wrong, and now seems surprised that a whig paper will not follow its example. Advertiser. We are glad to hear the Advertiser own up even after the election.
