Dr. Schoonmnker, of Jamaica, (lied on Saturday last, full of years and full of honors. His death was eloquently and feelingly alluded to last night at the. St. Nicholas Society, by Rev.

Dr. Dwight. He hid been pastor of the same church about 60 years. When first called to it, he preached in the Dutch language for it was the only language spoken. What a change in 50 years 8 Now that language is only heard as a curiosity.

Counterfeit Honkv. Two individuals named Joseph Murphy and Wm Jackson were arrested last night by the Fourth district police, for attempt, ing to pass ppuriouB bank bills in the store of Chits. They were brought before Justice King this morning and held for examination.

Family JARS. Isaac Walker was sent to jail this morning for committing an assault upon his wife, Jane; who stated that ho abused her and was in the habit of doing so regularly, and she could get no peace with him at all Isaac said the disturbance always originated on the other side but as women have the privilege of using their tongues, the garrulity of MrB. Walker was not deemed sufficient justification for her husband beating her, and he was placed in durance for five days. For the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Dear Editor 1 must entirely disclaim the relationship impose upon me, to that deeply injured McP.

family, even to the fifty second degree. As my convictions have been increase I have eudeavored to advocate them with candor end sincerity, and altogether apart from personal feelings. Again let me thank you for your politeness, in so frequently throwing open your columns to my pen. O. The Last Ball.

The much talked of complimentary ball to Mr. Edward Arents, the lessee ol Gothic Hall, took place last night, and had it not been for the disagreeable slate of tho weather, would undoubtedly have been very numerously attended. We were sorry extremely Borry to see so few present numbering, we should say. about one hundred and fifty persons but as our Brooklynites do not manufacture their own weather they must submit to the disappointments and inconveniences arising from that of the imported article. The girls Inst evening looked extremely pretty and fascinating and at the first sight of the pretty creatures we imagined we felt ourselves being gradually transported, as it were, heaven ward and had we not been aware of our moral and beneveleut duties upon earth, wo would be, at this moment, dancing the Spanish dance or cheat and jig among the femiuine beings of a more elevated sphere and any expedition to hunt us up would have been as fruitless as those after Sir John Franklin.

Such was the effect produced upon us at the first sight of the girls, as near as we can describe it. The fancy dances during the evening by the two little Applegates' were very well performed, indeed, and deserve the highdst credit. The thanks of the company are' due to Messrs. Hooper, Voorhees, Dey, and the others of the floor committee, for their polite and gentlemanly attentions during the night. They will please accept'our acknowledgements.

At midnight the company sat down to a most bountiful supper provided by Arents himself, who, as a supper manager, can not be excelled. Mr. Voorhees made a very neat and appropriate speech during supper, and returned bis sincere thanks, on behalf of Mr. Arents, for the kindness which the company extended towards bim during the past winter. On the conclusion of Mr.

re marks, Mr. Arents Jreceived nine hearty cheers A Mr. Walker being called upon, arose and returned his heartfelt (placing hand on his waist coat) thanks for their kindness in calling upon bim, and and and that was all. Mr. vv then sat down apparently smothered in bis own eloquence.

He received 0 hearty cheers. The company broke up about daylight this morn ing highly delighted with tneir evening's enter tainment. A merrier night was never spent at Old Gothic Hall. BROOKLYN PIBE INSTJB.AKCE COMPANY. niTARTKILED IN 1824.
