503 rultonitrec. Ksknufatturcr of Jewelry BiWer Wart, As, pio if The Republican General Committee, of Kings County, had another confusion mooting last night, in Clinton street, and only effected two nominations before adjournment. After the regular preliminary business of the meeting, Mr. Peet read part of the report of the Republican meeting held on Monday night in Tuesday's Eagle, and tried to tnako it out an unfair report, and also untrue, as ho had not heard the expression of one brother calling an a "liar," and of course as Mr. Peot did not hear it, there must be some somo doubt of its being so, or certainly he would not say so.

Mr. Peet, thinking that ho would create a sensation, moved that the reporters be hereafter excluded frum the room, and the Republicans keep private testings from this time forward. Several whole souled delegatos got up and opposed the resolution, and also bore testimony that the report in the Eagle" was true, and were glad that the truth had been published. If members would make themselves ridiculous they must take the consequence, and they hoped everything like secrecy would be frowned down, and their meetings thrown opeH to reporters, so that their proceedings could he made public. The motion to exclude Reporters was then put ana lost, tne mover being left In a glorious minority.

The committee appointed to wait upon Mr. Sparks made a verbal report favourable to him, wlncn was accepted by the mdennc. Mr. Hayne then made a' personal explanation as to what he had said of Mr. Sparks, at the last meeting, and said he might have boen mistaken He harborsd no ill feeling towards Mr.

Sparks, ana it ne nua aone him an injury ha hopeu be forgiven. The delegate that had called Mr. Hayne a "liar" then rose fand apologized, after which everything went on for some timo in peace and quietness. Mr. Sparks was tnen unanimously nominated for County Clerk.

A motion was then made to go into nomination for Senator, which save rise to a lenethv debate, and the predominant feeling appeared to' do in ravor or Mr. smitn, wnoae claims were supported by Mr. Kelsey and others. Mr. Hunt opposed the nomination of Smith, said that the democrats were entitled to some men on the ticket and eo did not believe in being sold out to the Whig party.

Mr. Smith was a Whig and stood upon the anii fusion Whig platform, then hyw could Republicans support him. Now if the Convention must nominate a Whig Senator why not take up Mr. George WT. Andrews, of Williamsburgh' a man in whom they could have confidence and a man who had a back bone.

Mr. Knap said he had had a conversation with Mr. Smith, and he told him in company with that in the event of an election of a United States Senator, he would support a Republican, and would not rote for Washington Hunt or anyothor Silver Gray Whig, but would vote for aPree Soil Whig or Democrat. Mr. Holt took the floor and spoke of Mr.

Smith at some length. He said as regarded the private character of Mr. Smith bo knew nothing against it, but he did not think the nomination of Mr. Smith would be a judieious Sue, as it was well known to the public that Mr. fcrnithis connected with the Kailroad and Ferry monopoly, and being identified as such, did not stand very high with the masses of the people, or as high as he did fifteen years ago.

But there was another objection. He stood on the Whig platform, that had repudiated the Republican movement, and as such, was be a proper man to support Mr. Holt concluded by recommending Mr. Lambert. The previous question was then called, The Chair decided that it was not debatable.

This raised the greatest confusion and uproar imaginable, but the Chair was sustained. At this stage of the proceedings one delegate called atother a rowdy; ho retorted by callmg the other a liar. The confusion then became intense, and a motion was made to adjourn sine die, which was not put. In this confnsioa the angel of peace spread his wings over the contestauts, and calmed the storm but only for a little while the angry element broke out again every body on tbe floor, and every one talking and trying to makepeace; and peace was at last restored, and there was a mighty calm. The first informal ballot was then taken whole number of votes 49, of which C.

P. Smith had 34, Mr. Andrews 8, Mr. Lambert 2, Blank 1. On the first formal ballot there were 30 votes cast, of which Mr.

Smith received 31, scattering a number of delegates refusing to vote. A motion to make the nomination unanimous was put, but not carried unanimous, a number voting "no." The Convention then adjourned to Friday night. Suioidb op Eli F. Benjamin. Mr.

Eli P. Benjamin an old and well known resident of Utica, camo to hin death on Sunday morning by poison administered by his own hand. Ho was a man ef sixty fivoor sixty seven years of ago, a bookkeeper by profession, and has for months past been in the employ of Uriel H. Kellogg, Druggist. Scarcely any one who is intimately acquainted with Mr.

Benjamin, will fail to understand by what im pulso the old man was brought to tho commission of suicide. Ho was, it was well known, one of those unfortunates deluded by spiritualism. During the last year, probably no manm this city has been more deeply devoted to tho snbject. By spiritualism he was made to bclStws that he held communication with his deceased wife and daughter, with whom, the ipiritland," he has latterly, times unnumbered 4)iessod a longing to be. Within less than a fort night, he has reeeived (so he was persuaded)a message from them, inviting him to join them.

Ho took poison that ho might accept tho invitation. Uiiea Observer. Don't foil to huvo your rools put in order during this ploasant weather. Gillott is doing an extensive business with West's Patent Cement" which gives general satisfaction. Call at 18 Fulton street.

Tho fleet has sailed from Sebastopol on a secret expedition, it is supposed oithcr to Nicolaieff or to Odessa. Advices from tho Crimea up to Sept. Tho British naval brigado had been dissolved. The soige batteries had been ro Bhippcd. Col. McMurdo was preparing his corps for active service by order. Tho Allied fleets had left Sobastopol dostination unknown.

In ordor to form ovon a conjecture about their future plans, it would be necessary to know something about the state of their resources, for thiB must decide the; thing at last.
