Shannon, which were accidentally set on fire by aiafl named Little, wno amused himself by creating a bonfire of shavings by the side of the carpenter sbopiThe flames speedily communicated to the wood work, and before effective efforts could be made tfr extinguish the fire both buildings, which adjoined'eajCh other, were enveloped, and ultimately; destroyed. The loss sustained by Mr. Shannon amounts to $260, and that of Mr.

Stout $800. There was no insurance on either of the buildings. Between 1 and 2 o'clock last night a fire brofig out in Kbapt's chemical factory, on the corner of Grand and DeEalb avenues. The flames extended to Henry Jackson's chemical works adjoining and both buildings were consumed. It is not known how the fire originated.

The loss sustained by Mr. Kratt is about $1000, and that of Mr. Jackson between $3000 and $4000. The buildings were of frame. There was no insurance.

Coroners' Inqubbts. The Coroners were notified this morning to hold inquests upon the body of a child of Michael Blake, residing in Hudson avenue, and upon the body of an aged woman named O'Rhvey on the corner of Hilary and Navy streets. Both of whom died suddenly. The Second District Station House. The extension to the Second District Station House, designed for cells and lodgingrooms, remains in an unfinished state, no workhaving been performed on it for two weeks past.

It was commenced in January last and should have, been finished long ago. There is no excuse whatever for the delay. The bell tower in the rear of the same is completed and the bell suspended, but it is not provided with a hammer of sufficient weight, and is therefore nearly useless for the purposes for which it is designed. There must be mismanagement somewhere. Supposed Fatal Assault.

There were about one thousand persons in all on the field no tickets were sold, except to those connected in some way with the school fiK the parents or guardians of youth the consequence was a very select company. Everything passed off agreeably. The Trustees deserve thanks for their aid and countenance in. the matter. We have never' attended an excursion of the kind where there seemed to be so real enjoyment.

A Band was in the field which discoursed a' most excellent music," which could only he surpassed by the sweeter music of kind and friendly greetings. Firemen's Excursion. The members of Neptune Engine Company, No. 7, Eastern District, and their friends, will proceed on an excursion to Cliffwood Grove on Monday morning, the 14th inst. They will be provided with a steamboat and two barges, and a commendable feature will be that no liquor will be allowed on board.

The teachers, officers and scholars of the Lee Avenue Church and Sabbath School, intend celebrating their 8d Annual Pic Nic and Anniversary on Tuesday next, at J. Carson Brevoort's Grove, near Pacific street, 9th Ward. Extensive arrangements have been completed to make it one of the grandest reunions ever held by the School. The Grove selected to hold the meeting is easy of access, being about two blocks from the Fulton Avenue Railroad. Full particulars of the order of exercises can be seen by referring to our advertising columns.

The young ladies of Fort Hamilton and vicinity have been engaged for some time post in making preparations for a Fair, to be held within the Fort on Wednesday, Thnrs day and Friday of next week (16th, 17th and 18th of July). The band belonging to the Fort will supply music dd libitum and refreshments which include all' the delicacies of the present season, will be provided. Without doubt the Fort will be a more popular place of resort during those three days than Newport or Saratoga apd greater numbers will pour into it. The object for which the Fair is held the erection of a Churchthe location of the Fort and its handsome surrounding scenery, the beauty, wit and humor of the ladies; a beauty like that of "'Peris just loose from their cages, and a 'Wit though bright.
