William, Rough Riders. Chief Yeoman Ellis. The nows of the death of Chief Yeoman George H. Ellis of the cruiser Brooklyn, whj nas killed by th; explosion of a sSell during Sunday's fight at Santiago, is a severe shock not only to the young widow, who is temporarily residing in this borough, but also to many who knew the young man during his boyhood, which was spent in Brooklyn. George H.

Ellis was born in Peoria, 111., in 1S75, but when he was very young his parents moved to Manhattan and a year or two later to Brooklyn. In February, 1892, he enlisted in the Navy, serving on the Minneapolis, the Monongahela and the cruiser Chicago. During his term on the last named vassel he was appointed yeoman, which rank ho held when his term expired on April 30, ISiiT. Immediately re enlistir.g he was assigned to the Dolphin, later being transferred to the Brooklyn, where he was appointed chief yeoman, or writer to the captain. He was married about eighteen months ago and loaves a wife and seven months old child.

Mrs. Ellis, whose home is at Bulls Head, N. is at present visiting friends at 21 Dean street, Brooklyn. She cannot believe that her husband is dead, as it was but two days ago that she received i letter from him, written in a very hopeful strain. Two Young Heroes From "Whitestone.
