We call attention to the advertisement of the opening exercises in another column. Fiue. The County Court House. As will be seen by our report of the proceedings of the Board of Supervisors, this matter was again under consideration at the meeting on Thursday. The attention of the Board was called to a new site for the Court by Sup. Talbot the Church property at the corner of Washington and Johnson streets. That is a site possessing all the advantages ofcentrality, and other things being equal, might be considered a very desirable location for the building so much needed.

It is time this seven years' bother were definitively set at rest.for it appears intimations have been thrown out, that if the Supervisors dilly dally much longer over the matter, we shall have another dose of Albany Commisaionering, a calamitous infliction, from which we must devoutly pray this already sufficiently troubled community may be spared Oh Wednesday next the Supervisors will make a personal examination of the County property on Vanderbilt avenue and Baltic street, at the suggestion of Sup. Crooke. That property no doubt possesses much suitableness for various purposes, but among them, its affording a fit location for a County Court House, surely cannot be reckoned. Follies in Rhyme. On Thursday evening, the Rev.Mr.

Studley read as one of the Institute course of lectures, a satirical poem lecture, which he denominates "Follies in Rhyme," and iu which he gave follies past and present, at home and abroadi some very hard hits. The poem, if it may be so called, was very faverably received. The uufor tunate slavery question was with very qucstiona. ble taste lugge in and condemned in ultra Repub. lican fashion.

The South Carolinians were denounced for their attempt to Trample down the Nations holy right, To choose a Black Republican or white. And the seceeding section was character'zed as IScggerly and rotten, State whose hearts and bruins are cotton. Palmetto braves, Who try to fill the land with bankruptcy and Blares. At the present moment when we stop the ordinary business of life to implore God to permit the bitterness of agitation to pass away from up, these allusions were about as appropriate as would be the introduction of a banjo into a Quaker meeting house, while the assembly was waitin'g for the spirit to move them. Can we not, in Heavens name, bring our wives and daughters to be amused by an hours literary exercise, without having thrust under our nose this eternal darkey, that has been the skeleton at our national feast for so many yeare; that comes between honest toil and its reward, at the very sight of which capital burns up like a scroll, and brotherhood changis into bitter enmity? Other and more legitimate themes were touched upon, and the follies connected tbeni, happily hit off.

The Puss came in for its share of blame, and the imaginations of the Reporters complimented in a left haiid fashion, for by their labors Certain Editors to wealth aspire, Because liku David they employ a lyre (liar). The most vulgar of all vulgarity the meanest of affections that vhich is ashamed to uee honest English, because a filthy mind connects with it indecent lieas, won very Cicetiouslv condemned thoeo over modest spinsters who Ol'tlio nightmare apenk in tones so lender, As lioree nocturnl of the female gender, i The attendance was large, and generil tone of the poem was greatly relished, and its hits duly acknowledged by laughter and uppl itise.
