bv hl kill TCESDAY EVENING, NOV. 28. XJUc Unltcu State's. Senate. The New York Tribune, tlie Philadelphia North American, and other whig papers, in speaking of the general sweep of the Taylor triumph, have claimed that he would have both Houses of congress, and that the now government would evorthrow the tariff and the sub treasury, and bring in the old protective system of '42 and some fiscal agent like the tank of the United States in short would restore to its fall the golden days of Harrison, when the whigs had every thing their own way, and for two eutiro Bessions riolted in their Utopian theories respecting banks, bankrupt laws, distribution of lands, tariffs, The whigs who really desire to soe a restoration or the dynasty of '42 are very few indeed, aud we do not doubt that the great majority of all parties sincerely rejoice that the new congress will be so constituted as to be au effectual check un all the ultra measures of a party accidentally in power aud which have gained the ascendancy by seizing on tho hero of a war which they have deuounced and declining to put forth the principles ou which their candidate would administer the government.

We haye been looking over the table of senators in order to ascertain, if possible, exactly what foundation the whigs had to build their hopes of revolution upon, and tho result of our inquiry has been to establish, clearly, the ascendency of tho democra XieanooK jjane ret 01 LiiiarK aud others to have Red Hook Lane closed st. com. com. Supply of water A com. from William Burdon of the irou works in Front strc this city, wasread, proposing to supply the with pure soft water from streams on the side of the Islaud, within ten miles of the As tho city grows other streams can added. Mr. 1.

stales that he has been over tho ground, examined these streams, calculated the quantity of water which they willfuruish in the dryest season, and found that there are six streams within 24 miles of the city, each of which would furnish 8000 gallous per minute, and for nine months in the year three times that quanti ty. This subject was thoroughly investigated three years since with reference to furnishing pure soft water for the manufactories, but a proposed company then fell through for wautof enterprise afur he plans had be3ii made and the expense of the work estimated. Since that time not a single manufactory of auy importance has been established in Brooklyn owing to the impure quality of the water which they are obliged to use. On the other hand, the Croton water has induced the location of many of many of ti. ese establishment in lhe of New York.

To three manufactories alono in this city a supply of pure water would be worth 20,000 per annum. Water derived from tho ground upon which authorities are now experimenting, is not the kiud required for manufacturing purposes. Mr. Biirdun's plan is to dig a basin containing 100,000,000 gallous at tho termination of the Jamaica steam, build first water, aud his compositions are delicious. Thoy are not a whit behind those of the celebrated Strauss.

Unlike young Townsend's, It improves with age, and never changes, but Tor the better; because it is pre pared on scientific principles by a scientific man. The highest knowledge of Chemistry, and tho latest discove ries of tho art, have all been brought into requisition by tho manufacture of the old Dr's Sarsaparilla. The Sar saparilla root, it is well known to medical men, contains many medicinal properties, and some properties which are inert or useless, and others, which if retained In preparing it for use, produce fermentation and acid, which is injurious to the syslem. Some ol" the properties of Sarsaparilla are so volatile, that they entirely evaporate and aro lost In the preparation, if they are not preserved by a einii: process, known only to those experienced in its manufac tars.

Moreover, these votatile principles, which fly off in vapor, or as an exhalation, under heat, are the very essential medical properties ol the root, which give to It all its value. Any person can boil or stew the root till they get a dark colored liqnod, which is more from the coloring matter in the root than from any thing else they can then strain this iesipid or vapid liquid, sweeten with sour molasses and then call it SARSAPARILLA EXTRACT or 8Y KUP." But such is not the article known as the OEXUIJVE OLD DR. JACOB TO WlfSEJfD'S SARSAPARIDXja. This is so prepared, that all the inert properties of the Sarsaparilla root are first removed, every thing capable of becoming acid or of fermentation, is extracted anu rejected then every particlo of medical virtue is secured in a pure and concentrated form and thus it is rendered incapable of losing uny of its valuable and healing properties Prepart iu this way, it is made the most powerful agent in the CURE OF INNUMERABLE DISEASES. Jacob Town scnd'is Genuine Original Sarsaparilla is an IMITATION of his inferior preparation Heaven forbid that we should deal in an article which would bear the most distant resemblance to S. P. Townsend's article! and which should bringdown upon the Old Dr. such a mountain load of complaints and recriminations from Agents who have sold, and purchasers who have used S. P.

Townsend's FERMENTING COMPOUND! We wish it understood, became it is the absolute, truth, tat P. TownsenQ's article and Old Dr. Jacob Townsend's Sarsaparilla are heaven wide apart, and infinitely dissimilar; that they are unlike in every particular, hav ing notone single thing in common. As S. P.

Townsend is no doctor, and never was, is no chemist, no pharmaceutist knows no more of medicine oi disease than any other common, unscientific i.l man, what guarantee can the public have that they arc receiving a genuine scien tific medicine, containing all tht virtues of the articles used jn preparing it, and which ate incapable of changes which might render them the Agenti of Disease instead of health. But what else should bo expected from one whoknowi nothing com paratiaely of medicine or disease I Itrequirei a person of some experience to cook and serve np even common decent meal. How much more important is that the persons who manufacture medicine designed WEAK STOMACHS AND ENFEEBLED SYSTEMS should know well the medical properties of plants, tht bust manner of securing and concentrating their healini virtues, also an extensive knowledge or the various dif eases which aflect the human system, and how to adan remedies to these diseases It is to arrest frauds upon the unfortunate, to pour bain into wounded humanity, to kindle hope in the despairing bosom, to restore health and bloom and vigor into th: crushed and broken, and to banish infirmity, that OLD Dr JACOB TOWNSEND has "SOUGHT and FOUND the op portunity and means to bring his GRAND UNIVERSA1 CONCENTRATED REMEDY within the reach am lo the knowledge ol all who need it, that they may know by joyful experience, its TRANSCENDENT POWER TC HEAL. will consist of 33 democrats, and, counting Mr. Hale, 34.

Tho whigs will have 24 and there are two places which are uncertain. In Ohio both par tiesclaim the majority in "the legislature, and it is therefore uncertain whether a whig or a democrat will be chosen. In North Carolina there is d. tie in both branches of the legislature although by the re signation of a democrat member, the whigs have an apparent majority in the house of one. The result may depend on the filling of this vacancy and is, at any rate, uncertain.

If the whigs should get both these senators they will have 26 and the demoerats 34, giving the latter a majority of 8. Interesting Address. We are highly gratified to learn that Luther R. Marsh, Esq. the Now York ice Cream I ureal iteduction in Price.
