Ruche, (Miss Keene) the grandaugh ter of an old Waterloo hero (Wheatleigli) has been betrayed by a false marriage, and then deserted after she has given birth to a child, which Subsequently dies.

Becoming very poor, she and her grandfather get work with farmer Hawthorn (Pearson) whose son James (Walcott, Jr.) falls in lovcwithhcr. Rose Maytield, a young widow whom farmer Maytield wishes to marry James, i at the bouse on a visit, and has for a suitor Ra hel' former betrayer, whom she refuses, and he, hinking that Rachel has informed her of his base conduct, tells all the village "''Ael'ssad story, Rachel make? the ti uth appca the Hawthorns give their consent to her marriage with their son. All the characters were very well rep. resented, and the performance of the piece gave satisfaction. In "No rest for the Wicked," the whole interest of the plot is concentrated upon the performance of Monsieur Genet, the wicked (Mr.

Blake) who, after running the gauntlet of all fashionable dissipation in his youth, at fifuy persuades an old lady and her youthful daughter to believe him an unsophisticated batchclor. He marries the daughter with the intention of "settling down," but the mother in law insists on. showing hiru the world, and takes him to Paris where Ids young wife worries him to death by a round of gaiety. He finally escapes, by a pretended liason, with another man's wife, and is taken home in disgrace. The plot is full of th most comic incidents, audit is needless to say that Mr Blake was the most unctions looking old sinner in the garb of virtue, that could be im affined.
