The Camphells. It will be seen elsewhere that this excellent troupe open for one night at the Alheneurn, to morrow (Saturday). They also give a matinee to morrow afternoon. Prof. Panokmo's Concert took place at the Polytechnic Institute last evening, and was listened to by a large and appreciative audience.

Miss Bell's efforts rrave entire satisfaction, and Messrs. Prendergasf, Melvile, Bradford and Gris wold were repeatedly applauded for their per' formances, wbich were creditable in the highest degree. Prof. Panormo's execution on the piano fort was such as to satisfy all who heard him of his complete mastery over that instrument, and added greatly to the success of the concert. Charge or Seduction.

Jerome Richardson, Cnptan of a canal boat Ijint; at the Atlantic Uasin, was arrested yesterday by officer Urerend, of the 2d I'rec'net, on I ho complaint of a yonnp; woman named Mary Dairy, who charged him with having, under prom'se of mar riiipe, induced her to wander from the path of virtue. The accused was not ready for examination, and the case was postponed for a few days. Fiirmoii'o Titist Insurance Companies. The fire it is supposed originated in carelessness. F. War and it unwelcome train of existing concomitants, has produced an effect of doubt and depression upon society to a considerable extent) resulting in a marked diminution of amusements. But intervals of merriment in public and private circles tend to dispel In a measure the glosm and apprehension consequent on the presence of this evil. Such an occasion took place last evening in the. Masquerade of the Clinton Sociables, given at one of the palatial mansions which adorn the aveuui: from v.

hich the Sociables are named. Br the pa three weeks the New York costumers have been aroused to unwonted activity by scores of i ri tty, inquisitive, and hard to please young damsels in starch of some suitable and surely ef. fective disguise, wherewith to grace the occasion. Young gentlemen also.in groups, pairs and Binsrly, divided with the fair onesj the attention of the cosutmcrs, quickly deciding upon whatever most pleased their less finical ideas. Like all times set apart for great occasions and ceremonies, the anxiously looked for evening at last came round and with it the throne: of members of the Cliaton and their host of friends, all attired in costumes, representing almost every nation and conceivable character on the globe.

To specify each of the many comprising the gathering would prove a laborious undertaking, there fore, we will merely mention several that attracted considerable attention as well as elicited admira tion from both observers and participants. The ladies, who must have priority in all descriptions, aie especially entitled to it in this. Beyond all comparison the queen of the constellation of beauties was Miss way, who Was arrayed in midnight gauze, plentifully studded with stirs dmy.Vwg brilliancy. "Morning" was doubly represented by Mies Jennie and another squally fine looking young lady. Each moving through the throng with majestic splendor.

Many others as finely got up were among the Dumber, prominent among them being a Pocha hontas, whose good looks and graceful motion could not fail in rescuing a dozen Captain Smiths. A petite Polish Danseuse, which if a truthfu1 epecimen, compels us to award to Poland the palmf beauty of features and symmetry of form ui' its fair inhabitants a fair personation of revo luiionary beauty and fearfully extensive toilet in a Miss 1, a number of Highland Laasies, Swiss peasant girls, Red RidiDg Hoods, Indians, ifce. The gentlemen displayed considerable taste in the selection of as elegant a variety of costumes as has ever been brought together in this city. Prominent among them was an English Jockey (in scarlet jacket, knee breeches, wbich was well assumed by Mr. who with the aid of a mischievous whip accelerated the movements of certain slow coaches among the party.

Mr. as Lord Lovell, was there in an incoDsolably bereaved condition, if svoe begone counUnance and abundance of crape are reliable criieiioiis, and in order to offset the gloom which bis presence created, Mr. A.C.C asaClown, made mirth of the drollest kiDd. The "What is it" bad apparently conveyed himself from Bar nutn's, bringing therefrom twogigantic bats, who kept moving and dancing among a motley group consisting of solemn Monks, meek Quakers, inquisitive Yankees, verdant Irishmen, dropical boys, (the worthy President, Mr. being one), droll clowns, stately kings, dukes, fcc, fce.

About 4 o'clock the company broke up, well pleased with their evening's entertainment, and MIfcB MARTHA AMES, (LATE PRINCIPAL of Female Grammar School, No. 2n, Ne York Oif ,) has commenced a Class for the education of a limited nu.11. her of pupils of twelve years 01 age nod uowards. at No. 1.13 Atlantic street, between Court aud Clinton streets Charge for Tuitl in In Rnglish branches and the ItudlmcTita lSdilfi5lSi SSa Hours oflnstructlon fromO A.

Vincent. URIS' ASSEMBLY IIOOM3, 371 Fulton st of theDemocratlc Union General Commutes. FRIDAY BVBNINO. MARCH 28. The OpcraSenorita Cubas.

The Opera or Massanicllo w3 fWco. at tbe Academy of Music last evening. The fashionable portion of the house or more strictly, that portion of the house which the fashionable people palroiiizp, was tbrorjfieil. The family circle and upper tier were all but empty, provioc that neither tbe opera nor the attractions which the Senorita Cubas bo liberally displays, were sufficient to bring the people who make no pretence to fashion. The performance opened unfortunately.

The renowned Maretzek, who in his palmy dojs was a marvel of artistic make up, took his Seat on the modest (fifty cent) chair reserved for the imprestario without a particle of the impressment which formerly distinguished him. In endeavoring to secure a reclining position, which chairs of this class do not admit of.be top pled over, demolishing a music stand and knocking the wind out of a plethoric musician of the Vaterland. In other days, a miBhap of this character would have shattered Max 's nervous system, and incapacitated him for attending to sublunary affairs for a week. But the fates have prepared an organizt tlon once so delicate for mishaps as rude as thia the chair and its occupant were placed in a perpendicular position, and the curtain rose and introduced the divertisement by which the Opera was preceded. Charles II, of merry memory, said his brother James took into bis cotfidenee the homely Ann Hjde as a sort of compromise between austerity and downright immorality; Gran arranges hi3 ballet corps apparently on the same principle.

He is well aware that it is hardly "the thing" for go moral a community as Brooklyn is said to be, but he so manages the affair that his corps shall be as devoid of all fascination as may be. The ballet corps last evening was composed of ladies for the most part so venerable that Young Brooklyn could not by any possibility be tempted by them from the steep and rugged way that leads to bliss in the world which follows this tiresome one evidtntljtbe primrose patbof dallianeecan receive no new attraction from the presentation of di veitisements" from wbich youth and beauty are excluded. Of course there is no reference in all this to the Senorita IiabellaCubas, whose Laseiaa tiocs and gyrations were looked forward to with xnoBt agreeable anticipations. The Senorita is not passe. The large deep black eye that can be found only with natives of the countries, where the wicked sun leave the blood "like the burning lava's flood" is undimned.

She bows to the staid and sober audience with the air of a Bichante, and with Signor X'menes commences the Gita nella Curro. The Senorita created no sensation. Old men fresh from their ledgers declared that they were not fascinated in the least; Young Brooklyn praised the inimitable coquetry, but voted the dancitig vigorous but ungraceful" Her contortions are alike wonderful and painful. Nobody that the "Heights" ever laid eyes on can approach the Seno rita'B agility. She can whirl round faster she can throw her Iimb3 higher, she can bound further anybody that ever breathed this intensely moral atmosphere.

Let ns not be understood to hint that there was anything approaching to coarseness in the Senorita's dancing by no means. It was as devoid of everything ol that kind as it is possible for anything of tbe eort to be. Of the Opera itself we would rather say nothing. Miss Hinkley or to use a more becoming title just at this time Madame Sustni, sang at times with painful effort. Her part was eliminated aB much as the least devoted friend of Anber could bear.

She was attired with great care and elegance, and never looked bottor. Brignoli was not in the best voice, and was in bad temper. The duo with Pietro (Susini) In the second act was unanimously the tenor very emphatically refustd a compliance. Susini's rendition ol his part was all that could be de sired. The intense enters largely into the plot of the opera of Massaniello as the opera was produced last evening it was indeed a very sober production.

When Fenella is delusively supposed to be on a rock overlooking the sea, and wildly contemplating self slaughter, she enters by a side wing, and there is nothing in the Ecene to horrify anybody. Than Mount Vesu vius, as exhibited last evening, nothing could be more wonderlul in the ecenic line. A patch of canvass was placed in the middle of the stage, and above the apex thereof asuperuuuaary held a Roman caudle from which the Uva descended in the shape of brilliant eijuibs. It ir bu just to say that the effect was maned by the fact thai the tuptrnumary who held the cauiilo wa3 at all times visible from irl of the hoase. We call the auei'tion of the stage manager to thU fact and evigeest that the aforesaid tupernutnary bt Ectir oiy btratted for not managing Vesuvius better.

Fenella (Cubas,) who was excellent ai1 through) instead of kaping down the crater (the reman candle aforesaid) very creditably jumped over a board fence two feet high and the curtain dropped on the Opera of Masaniello. Panic in a Public School. Fire. There was an exciting time in Public School No. 29 this morning shortly after the children were called in to commence the lessons of the day.

A little girl, it appears, went to the furnace, by means of which the building is heated, to warm herself, and standing too close, her apron became scorched, and her companions becoming alarmed, raised the alarm of fire. The entire school soon caught the cry and commenced a stampede. All rushed towards the doors. The benches and desks were no hinderauce to their advance. They rushed pell mell, one over the other, and the teachers had no control over them.

The doors were opened as wide as possible, and luckily, the children were enabled to escape without irjury to any one. They all succeeded iu gaining the street in a very short time after the first alarm, the teachers rendering every facility for their safe egress. Officer Porter, of the iSd precinct police, was there soon after the com. mencement of the panic, and takiog his station near the door, contributed not a little to the safety of the children. Several other officers, not on dnty at the time, were promptly on hand, and rendered every assistance in their oojver.

Some of the pupils were a little scratched, but none were injured to any extent. In fact it is re markable that no one was seriously hurt. The school house is new, having been completed last fall. It is tne only public school in the Twelfth "Ward. After the cause of the panic had been as certained and explained, the children returned to their studies.

The alarm had, however, spread throughout tbe city, and members of the Board of Education and others rushed to the scene to see what the matter was. Fortunately they were not compelled to witness another No. 14 ty. All being quieted, the firemen, who had come there in great numbers, returned home, when an other alarm was sounded, and they returned. The cause was the burning ot one or two shanties iu Tinkerville, a short Uistauce beyond the school bouse.

The flames were, however, suppressed before much dumage was done. Last tvtning, ELoitly after o'clock, a lire was discovered in the dry goods store of Jones Eulkley, No. 270 Fulton street. The store had just beeD closed, when the alarm was given. Ou re opening the doors it was found that some of the goods ou tbe shelving had caught tire.

The flames weie speedily suppressed. Damage about $300 insured in the Nassau, Mechanics and The Bombardment Still Progressing. GREAT EXCITEMENT IN BURLINGTON, N. J. Eev.
