Claus Olandt, of Greenpoint, ono of the socretarios of tho International Committee of the. Y. M. C. has been In Alabama acting as State Bocrotary of the Y.

M. C. A. Since the 20th of April, when ho entered upon his work, he has devoted his time In organizing and building up associations all over tho State. He hat organized new aisoclatlona at Montgomery, Annlston, Decatur, Athens, Bessomor, Opollka and Eufaula.

On tho 16th Mr. Olandt took part in the third anniversary of tho Birmingham Y. M. C. where Hov.

Sam Jones and he wore the speakers and over $30, 000 wis raised at the meeting for the local Y. 11. C. A. A SAILOR ATTACKED MY FOOTPADS.

John Lacy, a seaman attached to the United States steamer Vermont, was walking through Oliver streot, New York, Friday njght, when he was approached by two footpads who asked him for monoj. Lacoy handed them 20 conts, all tho change he had. Tho men then Insisted that ho should give them more, and as he was unablo to do eo they sot upon him, hont him and tore his clothes. Policeman George Wackerly, of the Oak street station, arrested the men, who gave their names as Thomas and James Halloran; no home. Justice O'liollly yesterday morning sent thom to tho tsland for throe mouths in default of $500 ball.

THE PMLHABMOHIC CLUB. The second concert by the New York Philharmonic Club at the Young lion's Christian Association Hall was given yesterday afternoon before an audience of fair dimension, and, like its predecessor, was a pleasant affair. Schwareuka's trio, hlB first work, composod for violin, violoncello and pianoforto, was played with a spirit that developed its robiiBt qualities and its Russian flro and pathos. Itichard Hoffman, who took a part in the trio, also playod Chopin's study and ballad, opus 23, with care and finish. It is a work that has less complaining than much of Chopin, but there la the usual show of difficulties in tho treatment of his thome difficulties that Mr.

Hoffman attacked courageously and overcame. Tho club played three sugary llttlo pieces by Godard a molting cau zouolta, a minuet that was like a minuet only In respect of being written in triple time, and a sparkling sorenade. Those compositions had some delicious harmonic changes, and were treated, aa they required to be, with extreme nicety by tho musicians. Hoffman's soitet, opus (jj, written for tho club, is a charming work, imbued with mystery and fooling, yet responsive to lmpulso, tho product of a chaste and Uollcato mind. A ploasaut tang of tho unaccustomed is now and then apparent, for thoro are passages of an onergy and wildnoBS that almost bespeak an origin in the study of Slavonic or Norwegian music.

It would be worth extension, that It might be undertaken by full orchestra. Tho noit oncert of the club will be glvou on November 12. JAY GOULD OFF FOR EUROPE. District Attorney JTIartine Does Not Interfere With I in Departure. Jay Gould sailed on the Umbria yesterday aftoruoon.

He was not Interfered with by any cue from tho District Attorney's office. Mr. Mar tino Friday afternoon thought that ho might be compelled to have Mr. Gould arrested on the complaint of tho Kansas City bondholders who are represented by Lawyor DoLancoy. A conference was had, however, wjth Mr.

Martine by one of Oould's lawyers, and an agreement arrived at that made It unnecessary for the District Attorney to Interfere with Mr. Oould'B plans. It was arrangod that It Mr. Gould should be indicted ho would return to Now York immediately upon being notified. It was rumored yesterday that Gould was inducod to make his trip to Europe at this limo so as to be out of tho couutry on tho 11th of November, tho diiy fixed for the hanging of the condemned Chicago Anarchists.

It Is said that he has recoived several threats of assassination in tho cvunt ot tho executions taking place. INDORSING THE WHOLE TICKET. The Young Men's Democratic Club of the Twenty sixth Ward held a meeting last evening In Lynam's Hotel, at tho corner of the Plank lioad and Logan avenue. John J. Delauoy presided.

The main buslnoss of tho mooting was the indorsement of the entire Democratic ticket. IT 1VAS NOT JOHN A. JAMBS. to the Editor of tht Brooklyn EanU Will you please state in your paper that the brilliant speech made by Mr. James, of tho Third Ward, was by a Mr.
