Miss Jennie Rogers, a member of the woman's single tax club, read a paper on tho objects of tho organization in which she prophesied that carried to its ultimate results it would take tho place of all other reform movements and mako everybody happy by removing the groed that begins with fear of poverty. She quoted considerably from tho philosophy in economics and emphasized their theories. The entertainment was in chargo of A. J. Biggs and E.

A Pretty Spot in Prospect Park Wblcb Is but Little Known, Few of tho many thousand poople who visit Prospect park know of tho Vale cashmere, tho prettiest nook in Brooklyn's great breathing garuen. it is peculiarly adapted for the hundreds of loving couples that tread tho pathwayt and bywaj of the park, and if it wasn't for the ohildren who are its frequontors ono would suppose that Dame Nature and tho city had established it for their especial benefit. Entering tho park to the left of Stranahau's statue, a five minutes walk brings ono to a ravine which is bridged over with boards, while overhead is a wooded canopy fashioned into a summer house, while from tho sides protruding over the ravine aro seats which are occupied daily by old couples with their papers and fancy work.

A glance ovor tho side of tho bridge shows a pretty little artificial lake from the midst of which bubbles a fountain. Passing down a long flight of easy steps which appear further on, one comes to the shores of the lake. A look around shows that outsido of tho pond and tho fountain everything has been left in its original wildnoss. The placo is surrounded by dense underbrush, trees and trailing vines, from which oomes tho perfume of flowers. Several largo bowlders which probably dropped down from above years ago remain as they fell.

At tho distant end of the luke a neck of laud protrudes, being separated from a little island by a tiny strait. Tho surface is covered with pond lilies and cresses, among which rove myriads of gold and silver fishes. Those, varying in size from nearly a foot in length to little fellows not larger than a pin, skim around the top rojdy to pounce on anything tho children may throw at them. Seated on a settee, several of which surronnd the lake, one can watch the filtering rays of tho sun gradually lengthen and finally disappear, whilo from the distance come tho rumbling of passing carriages and tho faint playing of tho merry go round organs at Franklin avenue. The Vale cashmere partakes of the orientalism that its namo implies.

Patrick Jndire Requests That His Daughters Be Committed as Vagrants Thf Old Antipathy of Horsemen Tovrunl Bicyclists Shows Itself Again Plans for tho Development of Norton's Point There Will Be Grand Hotels and Charming Villas, a Desert Turned Into a Paradise. Tho Troy honse, a low resort on the Bowery at West Brighton, was tho scene last night of an exciting adventure, resulting in tho disgrace of two young women. About 8:30 o'clock a tall, fair haired ronng man of good appearance entered police headquarters and asked for an oflScer. IIo said his namo was George Striohtor and that his wifo and her sister, who is unmarried, had just gone to the Troy house with a bartendor with whom they had taken suppor. Dotective McGiu ness went with Mr.

Strichter; they surprised tho party and tho excited women's screams roused the neighborhood. When Mrs. Strichter recovered from her surprise. Sho reproached her husband for following her. Tho bartender and tho women wero brought beforo Chief McKauo and tho young women's father was summoned.

Ho is Mr. Tatrick Judge of Second street, between Hoyt and Bond. Mr. Judge declared that both his daughters had been wayward a long time and that it were bettor they should be committed as vagrants, to this also the husband agreed, but Chief McKano advised that they bo taken to Brooklyn and disposed of there, and this advice was finally taken. Mr.

Strichter will puo for di vorce. The young women ape 18 and 22 years of age, respectively. Tho well known antipathy of men who drive horses toward men who ride bicycles received a fresh illustration yesterday afternoon whon P. S. O'Neill of 334 Stuyvosant avenue, his sister and a friend, wero knocked down and run over by stages opposite the West End hotel.

The bicyclists were going west along Surf avenuo. and the stages coming east, bound for the race track. The drivers whipped up their horses when they were ten yards away from tho bicyclists and rode over tho wholo party. Mr. O'Neill was very badly bruised and shaken up and the others had their clothes torn and wero injured to a slight extent.

All tho machines were wrecked. This happened in broad daylight and after full warning. Mr. O'Neill declared that tho stagcinon were looking full at him when they rode him down and that they mado no effort to givo him a share of the road. John O'Neill and Charles Blyer, the 6tage drivers, wero locked up.

Mr. O'Neill will suo tho stage company for damages. There is no such thing really as an undertow; that is, thoro is no current under tho surface which drags men down below tho waves and keep them thoro till they aro drowned. When the tide is running in strongly there is a strong rotary motion of the shallow water in the beach tho receding wave meets the incoming wave and presies under it with strength enough to throw a man off his feet, but this iulluonco is only felt in shallow water; out in deep water all ono has to contond with is the waves and the tide, except in those cases where there is an established ocean current. But what the public in general understands as tho undertow really has no existence in fact.

At the same time, this does not mako tho ocean leas dangerous to batho in. If one is a good swimmer there is still danger from cramps, if he is not a good swimmer there is danger of being carried out of his dopth by receding wavos. One thing should specially bo impressed on tho bathers at Coney Island don't go swimming under tho piers. The piers have iron pillars and if the tide is running strongly and tho waves have any strength you are liable to be pickod up and dashed against a pillar. Tho blow is generally strong enough to stun you and down you sink.

Lucky for you if a life saver is watching, for he will soon get you out and put you through the horrible treatment said to be necessary to resuscitate half drowned men. and that will be punishment enough for your foolishness. Otherwise you will very probably be set down in the daily papors as another victim of tho "sea puss." The syndicate which has purchased Norton's point has ambition and energy and big aspirations. It proposes to take the shine out of Man hattan and the Oriental. "Why not?" said a representative.

"We h.ivo much tho best part of Coney Island. It it tho highest ground, it is tho most exclusive territory, or, at least, the easiest to mako exclusive. It has tho grandest and most comprehensive view. I don't seo what Mr. Cor bin was about when ho purchased tho east end of tho island and left tho point.

From the piazzas of the grand hotels wc aro to erect there you will bo able to seo all tho commerce of the greatest of American cities passing in and out of the beautiful bay. Beyond tho bay stretches Staten Island and F6rt Hamilton. Thero is water on all sides of the point except the east side; on the west and north is New York bay to the south the Atlantic ocean. At present tho point is not easy of access, but wo aro to run a branch of tho Sea Beach railroad thero early in the spring and it will curve over the marshes making a pretty straight lino. Tho time from Bay Ridgo to the point can bo got down to twenty minutes and that will bo about the running time of our trains.

Theprojoct has now taken solid shape and plans are being rapidly perfected. That portion of the point which is beins set apart for cottago building is under such restrictions that no man will bo allowed to erect a homo costing less than $20,000. The New York yacht club will take our offer of a plot of ground on which to build thoir club house, and a number of the members have already mado arrangements for summer homos. Thoro is no doubt in ray mind that in two years the present sand will bo transformed into a paradise of villus, each with its lawn and trees and flowers. Business men who havo to attend to thoir work in Now York, will find tho question of transportation solved for them moro satisfactorily than in any other similar resort, as they can get to their desk, either by rail or by water, in from half an hour to forty five minutes." "Tho great question is will it pay to build great hotels at tho point?" "It will pay well if they are tho best and havo the best attractions." Thus it will be seen mtn go on hoping.

With just such plans tho Brighton Beach people deluded themselves, and the owners of Manhattan Beach never dreamod of all the sad seasons they wero to encounter when repairs eat up tho meager profits aud deficits stared them in the face. Tho present season is so profitable that it makes all mmi who HnliTlit, in vcntnrrs fnnl t.Vmr, tio soundness of tiieir judgment is at last proven, I and that thoy can now go on building moro and moro for the ploasure loving public of Now York and Brookl3 n. Thoy forget all about the fnilures that strew tho years between 1S8I1 and 18TJ2 and fancy that tho bad yoar will never come again. THEY ARE WITH CAPTAIS FRENCH. touts Partner, Who Has a Grievance AfftiJllst Aduitiy, 'rolls Way, Aspecial meeting of ths Indopondont Demo cratic league of tho Twenty sixth ward, organized to battle against any numineo of Peter Sut ter and Harry Adams in local politics on account of tho removal of Captain from the precinct, washeldlast evening in Atlantic garden, on Bradford street, near Atlantic avenue.

Daniel J. Cox presided and Peter J. Collins recorded. Eighteen new were enrolled and Pres ident Cox appointed twontysix cap.ains, one ior each election district. Louis Parmer, representing tho Hebrew con tingent of Brownsville, had something to say.

He guaranteed that the First, Second and Third election districts of tho ward would give a big majority against the supervisors! candidate named by Adams and Sutter. "If Captain French were in command of thU precinct things would bo different." said JMr. Parmer. "He organized us in Brownsville, and wo will show those so called leaders how much wo lovo our old captain. I was a spccir.l oflieer, but, because I gave vent to my feelings toward Captain French, my shield was taken away by Captain Gorman." WHERE DEATH IS CHEAP.

Suiciding in Arizona is easy and economical. Tho party of tho first part simply hunts up a rattlo snake, presses tho button, and the rattler does the rest. No stomach pumps, no sickening antidotes, no notldng, 'cept tho coroner. Soifii JfuitZoon. FELL FHOM A SCAFFOLD AND KILLED.
