Oyster Bay, July 31 A peculiar phase or the ups and downs ol summer business at some of the Long Island resorts Is shown in the fact that there is a scarcity of house boarders here this season, while the cottages are all taken. This state of affairs was discovered through a canvas made among the smaller boarding houses and some of the hotels; yet the number of people appears to be greater, and the diBplay of stylish turnouts something Immense.

When Governor and Mrs. Roosevelt drove through the village from the depot Monday on their way to Sagamore Hill for the 5:30 train, the number of HOME AT BABYLON. turnouts was little short of bewildering. The fad among the smart set this season Is driving. The improved roads make this pleasure possible.

The continuous rain storms dampened the ardor of the usually restless young people and they were well content to spend the time in the parlors, bowling alley and billiard rooms. In fact, tho guests for the first time during the season became well acquainted and acted like members of a big family. Later in the week they made up for the time spent indoors and the days THE B.
