The beara apparently profited early this week by the sovoro lesson taught thom last week, and covored the bulk of their short contracts in tho oversold stocks on Monday and Tuesday. One of the largest of tho bears found that it would be ruinous to attempt to cover his" purchases in the opou market, and therefore he was permitted to make a private settlement. Tho whole fraternity of bears wore, howover, kept on the ragged edge of expectation for the remainder of the week, and, although thoy saw that there had been a great deal of realizing by the bull party during the rise, thoy had a wholesome dread of bull manipulation, and while cautiously selling refrained from openly attacking those of the specialties which could readily be squeezed. The desline in the market on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday may therefore be attributed to a natural reaction, unaided to any great ox tont by tho bears. To day tho loading feature was a scramble for Michigan Central, caused by tho fear that the Btock might be made very scarce, and this started a riso in the other Vanderbilt properties.

It is asserted that there Is still a large uncovered short interest in leading stockB, and that next weok the bulls who have realized upon their holdings will take back their properties. It is pretty ovident that the loaders rely more upon manipulation of this character to relieve themselves of their load than they do upon any outside buying of stocks. The following table nhows the highest and lowest sales of Government bonds, gold and leading stocks each day during tho week. The second organ concert of the season of 1883 4 was given at the Brooklyn Tabernacle yesterday afternoon iu the presence of a large audience of ladle nnd gentlemen, who evidently highly enjoyed the choice programmo provided for the occasion. Mr. Henry Eyre Browne presided at the organ, and opened the programme with Bach's prelude and Fugue in minor, which he performed with the taste and skill thafc have rendered him famous among local musicians. Misa L.

E. Vauderveor followed with Guglieral's "Gratina Agimus Tibi," which sho gave in a soprano voice of great clarity and sweetness, and quito won tho hearts of her auditors. Hor sister, Miss M. V. Yan devvcer, is a contralto of much purity of voice, and her roading of Handel's 'Ho vast despised" (from the "Mcs wad also highly up predated, and it was said that if Hue could divest heiTclV of tho nervousness natural to a yuung ami inexperienced singer, her performance would have been as nearly perfect as could bo expected in hut a professional.

Whon she appeared subsequently with her sister in Campana's duet, "Veini o' cam," this had disappeared, and a very pleasing performance was the result. Mr. Browne filled up the intervals between the singing with various pieces on the organ, winding up with variations on the linssian national anthem, and the audience dispersed after a delightful afternoon. The next concert wiU be given on Saturday next, wnen Messrs Browne and Ackennan and Miss Mitchell will interpret the programme. STOCKS AND SPECIE.
