Ex Councilman Kerrigan attempted to shoot Alderman Genet yesterday afternoon, for having, as alleged, insulted one of his female friends, The aflair took place in the Park. Fatal Fourth of July Accident.

John Dunlap was shot in tho leg by some boys who were firing a small cannon in the 10th avenue on the 4th of July, and so seriously injured that it was found necessary to convey him to Bellcvue Hospital for treatment. It appears that he was in an outhouse at the rear oi his residence and the wadding discharged from the cannon struck his leg and fractured it. He died of the effects on Tuesday. Flies and Mosquitos. K.

Whereas, In tbe opinion of this Common Council, acting as a Board of Health, the two vacant lots In DeKaib avenue, about two hundred feet east from Nostrand avenue, on the north side of DeKaib avenue, are a nuisance, dangerous to the public health, caused by stagnant water; therefore, Resolved, That the Street Coiumlssiouer be and he Is hereby directed to publish In the corporation newspapers, the usual notice of the intention of this Common Council to pass an ordinance, requiring the owner or owners of two vacant Jots on DeKaib avenue, on the north side, about two hundred feet east of Nostrand avenue, to fill the same to abate said nuisance. Dr. Wendell was an old resident of Brooklyn, identified with it and Its inhabitans when the now large city was a village. He was Health Officer of Brooklyn, for many yenrs, and was highly respected by all who knew him.

Boabd of Health. The Board of Health was to have met yesterday, but all the members but Aid. O'Kccfc seemed to have forgotten all about it. It was of no consequence, however the general health is very good, and no epidemic expected. The Sanitary Police attend to all minor nuisances, and the Sanitary Association has taken charge of the worms so there is nothing in particular for the Board of Health to do.

Mr. Whittemore, Clerk of the City Court.dc sires us to state, in relation to his receiving fees as mentioned in yesterday's paper, "that the pro ceedings for which he received compensation as attorney, were before the City Judge, at Chambers, and had no relation whatever to the City Court, and that his actions were perfectly leeal and proper, as will be apparent to every lawyer's mind, and as the Judge held." Finn was a native of the county Carlo Ireland his father represented Carlow for many years in the Imperial Parliament, and by marriage he was connecod with the late Daniel O'Connell. He is represented by his brettireu of New York as being a man of varied talent, and personally a genial, courteous gentleman. The Ridoewood Pic Nic Ridgewood Temperance Union yesterday went on their grand pie nic to Biddle's Grove. A fine steamer and two capricious barges conveyed the party of nearly a Jpndrcd persons to the ground. The excursion as a complete success in every particular, and was greatly enjoyed by all on board, without any accident or unpleasant occurrence whatever.

Drowned while Bathing. A little boy about 5 years old, son or tuuuiiu icornerof State and Columbia streets, was drown ed yesterday afternoon at the foot of State street. Some boys he was accompanied with persuaded Ji im to go in the water with them, and the little fellow undressed himself and fearlessly jumped in as he saw the other boys do, and being unable to swim he was drowned before his companions were aware of the danger they had led him into. His body was recovered shortly after, but all efforts to restore life proved unavailing. Coroner Eorton held an inquest on the body.

Daring but Unsuccessful Attempt at Bctr OLABT. The house of Mr. Wm. Hicks, No. 158 Grand E.

was burglariously entered about 11 o'clock last night by some person who gained access to the premises from the roof. They descended through the scuttle into the apartments of Mrs. Hicks who fortunately had not yet retired. She, together with a servant girl, were the only inmates at the time. They ran from their Bleeping rooms to the front parlor, got out of the window into the street and called for the police.

Officers Welch and Cochuc responded to the call, and entered the house in pursuit of the burglar, Who by this time had been alarmed by the cries of the ladies, and beat a precipitate retreat, and though pursued across the roofs of several houses and into the street, he finally escaped, without, however, securing any booty. Mrs. Hicks believes that only one person was engaged in the attempt at robbery, and is some one familiar with the premises. NEW YORK CITY NEWS. Four Bots Drowned.
