THE VETERANS OF 1812 Cclcliratiuff tUe liny toy Dining in IVeiv Yurie. The Veterans of the War of 1812 celebrated Hie Fourth In their usual way by diuiui; at tho Sturte vant House, New York, at the invitation of Iloraco 3. Bud Lewis At sunrise Adjutant Gould Warner hoisted the flau ou the old fort in Central Park by order of Geueral Abram Dally, and at tioou tho Veterans assembled at Military Hall, No. 193 Bowery.

Only three of tbein came together Gauoral Abram D.illy, 89 years old oruo Cryeier, 87, ana Gardner Lilll S3. Two of the remaining eight were unable to be present, and Ihreo have died during tho year. The Veterans went to the Battery and there Gonural Dally hoisted tbe flag ou tbo staff there. Afterwards the Veterans visited the Uulted Order of American Mechanics 3t their rooms on Orchard atiaot, and thou wore escorted to tho aturtevant House by Mansfield Post Drum Corps. Among the invited guests at tha dinner wore liloodgood U.

Cutter aud Colonel Dawson. Lottera of regret were reeoivod from General W. S. Hancock aud Samuel Bayard Stafford, who has always hitherto attended tho reunions, carrying the flag of tho Bon Homme Richard. At the conclusion of tile feiiat oheera wore given for tho Mossra.

LelancL A CKAZY 1 A1U1EH. Daniel C. to IK, at Jmuaicn, Confined in a iWailliouwe in Iowa. Tho depressing news was received at Jamaica yesterday of tho insanity of Daniel C. Folk, a wealthy farmer, aud his incarceration in an asylum at Keokuk, Iowa.

Tho information canio to John R. Burdett, of Whltopot, from Mrs. Bolmer, of Hannibal, who In Mr. Folk's only child, Tho stricken man owns two forms at Whitepot, midway between Jamaica and Newtown, and is worth at least his friend, Mr. Burdett, states.

Mr. Folk una boon a widower for a number of yearn, and his daughter cared for his household while thoy lived at Whitepot. She was a fascinating rl, but her life was rendered miserable by lier father's fear tint she would marry, and he was known to drive away desirable suitors for her hand with a shotgun. Sho was guarded as closoly a a prisoner. To bo rid of tho auuoyanco of tho zealous young gen tlemon the fond parent purchased a farm in New Jersey aud removed thereto with bis daughter.

It was in a comparative wilderness, where Mr. Folk thought his fair daughter would live on old maid, but he was mistaken. A missionary priest of tho Episcopal Church, iu his periodic visits, foil in lovo with Miss Folk, and sho boai tily reciprocated the affection, but the jealous father raged at tho suggestion of marriage, and again brought down for an omersency the rusty old gun. Tho minister's diplomacy and the maid's cuuning wore too much for the shotgun policy. They planned and successfully carried out an elopement, after which they icado their home in Hannibal, Mo.

Farmer Falk has nevor been the same atnrdy man since bo lost tbo society of his daughter. He sold his farm )n New Jersey at a sacrifice, aud returned to Whitepot. He made a will disinheriting his daughter on tho ground or disobedience, and left it with Mr. Burilott, saying thBt ho might be found doad somewhere, aud this led hfs friends to fear that he contemplated Buicide. Within a few mouths, howover, his love for Uia daughter got the bettor of him.

He opened correspondouco with her, and learned that her son had been named aftor its grandfather. This was too much for Mr. Folk's pervorse nature to withstand, He called for tho will which disinherited bis daughter, and after destroying it set out for her home in Missouri. After arriving there he wrote to bis friend Burdett of his supreme happiness, expressing the intention of soiling his farmB on Long Island and settling in tho West. About a weok ago Mr.

Folk Btartcd homeward, and on tho way became a hlaiilao. no tore up his ticket, and would have done himBolf barm but for tbe restraining power of tho train bands. At Koi kuk ho was taken from tho train, and after examination was committed to an asylum. Ho la moro than GO years old and his rocovery is doubtful. Mr.

Burdett states that for three months before going to Missouri Mr. Folk's conduct Indicated that his mind VJts becoming unhinged. THE SEA SIDE HOME. TTroaoureir Wood Ucceivcs a Subscript lion from Scotland. A communication received by Treasurer E.

CHRISTIANSEN INSTITUTE, Lata of 207 Schsrmerhorn st, HAS KEMOVED To more commodions building, 123 SIXTH AV. RITING LBSSONS ALL SUMMER, day and evening, BROWNE'S BROOKLYN BUS INESS COLLEGE, twonty sfxth year, 304 Fuitoa at, op uusitu oonuaon; apuuiaiiiieswriiiug, uribumetic, DOOK aeeping, eto, special teachers for persons of neglected According to tho ancient custom, Tammany Hall yesterday celebrated the glorious Fourth by assembling at tho big wigwam and listening to speeches made by prominent braves. As usual tha interior of tho ball was decorated with American flags and tbe in slguia of the soeiety. Tho usual crowd' filled tbe benches when P. Henry Dugro, Grand Bachem, preceded by tho bearor of tho Liberty Cap, entorad the big wigwam, followed by the sachems and braveB.

When tho stage had been filled so full of dignitaries that no one olso could get a seat, the Grand Sachem aroso and delivered an address of welcome. Then the band in the gallery played a national air and everybody felt like shouting for Amerlosn independence, but they didn't. Jacob A. Cantor read tbe Declaration in a loud voice that could be heard all over the hall, Orlando B. Potter, the orator of the day, delivered the long talk." Ho cboso for his text Tbe Declaration of Independence," and dwelt upon that theme for thirty five minutes.

Amoug other things he said By thuse that know no better the Declaration of Independence has been called a mass of glittering gen eralties. Aud yet it passage was the most heroic act recorded in tha history of tho republic' It put forth the great truths of freedom and established tbe proposition that no government can be successful unless it has tho consent and co operation of those govorned. Our forefathers builded better than they knew. It is of little moment for us to try to estimate tho valuo of the declaration. Tho result is before the world.

Our country has been prosperous and happy. It contains more English speaking people than tho whole world beside. After twenty five years of misrule the Republican party has been deposed from power and a man who declares that a public office is a publlo trust has been placed at the head of the Government. The return to confidence, may be a long ono, but It will surely como in time." Richelieu Robinson, gray haired but as smart as a steel trap, made tho first short talk. He declared that Tammany Hall was the ono breakwater which the people of the United States could depend upon against the lnroadB of "touifoolory aud snobbery." Othur Bpeak ors were Eugene S.

Ives, A. B. lappau and Denis Mc Mahou, Among the letters read were tho following Executive Mansion, 1 Washington, D. 0., July 1st, 1885. lion.

P. Henry Dugro, Grand Sachem. Deab Sill I beg leave to ackuowledge the receipt of your invitation to join the Society of Tammany In its 97th celebration of tbe Fourth of July, the birthday of the Republic, I regret that the pressure of official duties aud engagements prevents tho acceptance of this kind iuvitstlou. Of tho purposes sought to be accomplished by the people in thuir reeeut ohoico of a chief magistrate, re torred to in your note of invitation, I am seriously mindful. Io order that the hopes of tbe people may be fully realized, every momber of tho party lu power should yield a cordial support to all efforts on tho part of the Administration to restore a purs, free and just government, 'Iho statement oontained iu your note that "tbe Administration should so discharge all its functions as to merit not only the approbation of the people, but at the same time insure a harmonious party united iu Jeffersoniau Democracy," meets my approval, although my conception of tho true purposes aud the mission of my party convinces mo that if tho prosout Administration merits the intelligent approval of the people this result of itself certainly should insure a harmonious parly united in Jeffersoniau Democracy." While the coming celebration will revive aud keep alive tho memory of patriotic devotion and sacrifice for the Bake of free institutions, no occasion iB more propitious for a reuowal of our pledges to a true and progressive Democracy so essential to our country's safety aud prosperity.

Yours very truly, OitovEK Cleveland. When the was over the sauuems, braves and guests went down into the basament of tho wigwam and drank nro water uut of the over flowing fountain. A it, ix 'a LIPPITT OBEU In Brooklyn, July 1, 1885. by tho Rev. ChurloB W.
