Hallfj Master Hrowri. II IlIKl t'l. ing was especially good for a half day and the dealings in a number of issues were in the thousands of shares. The feeling at the close was noticeably strong and some of the issues that had made serious recessions in the early trading partially regained their losses. The highest prices at which sales were made were in New Amsterdam Gas common at 44 and the preferred at 72 1 American Air Power at 81; Bay State Gas at Car and Foundry common at 28 and preferred at 07; Electric Boat common at 401i and the preferred at 61V4; Electric Vehicle common at 120; Havana Commercial common at 34; New York Electric Vehicle at 19; Pressed Steel Car common at land the preferred at 80; Royal Baking Powder at S9; Rubber Goods common at 32', and Standard Oil at 474.

Amsterdam Gas issues were by far the most active features of the curb market and the trading In the common stock was even in greater volume than yesterday. The buying was persistently aggressive and was due almost entirely to the defeat of the Astoria Gas bill by the Legislature. On heavy transactions the common made a further gain today of 2 points, while the preferred advanced 2 points. There was persistent selling of Electric noat common stock to day and a large proportion of this was said to be profit taking on the advance scored In that stock this week. In spite of what seemed to he an effort to maintain the higher level for the stock the free offerings forced a decline which netted a lose of 2 points for the day.

The Financial Chronicle reports receipts of $6,005,000 by the New York City banks this week from the interior and shipments of $4,919,000. Sub Treasury operations resulted In a loss of $1,250,000, making the r.ct loss of the banks $164,000. The bank statement did not prove by over two and a half million dollars but was more favorable, the increase in cash and the small decrease in reserves being especially gratifying. "WEEK IN PETROLEUM. Trading in refined petroleum this week was fairly active and save a slight advance at Antwerp and Bremen, prices are about unchanged.

In crude oil trailing was extremely dull. The work in the fields continues fairly active and the center of interest lias been transferred for the time being from the Scio district to the Elk Forks district in Tyler County, West Virginia. Indications now point to an extension to the north of the northeusi extension of the pool. Operators have been drilling anil have struck seme Hood wells. The Rice Farm test was drilled into the sand parly in the week, and the showing made would indicate a 75 barrel producer.

The latest, extension of the Rayniilton development, is also attracting considerable attention. Some interesting developments are also expected within the next fortnight in the California fields, where the Union Oil Company is making ready to begin active operations. Refined petroleum closed at 7..15 cents per gallon in barrels and 4.S5 cents in bulk at New York. Philadelphia prices being on a basis points lower. Foreign quotations were: London 5 13 lCd per Imperial gallon; Antwerp, 1S francs per 100 kilos, and Bremen G.85 marks per 50 kilos.
