Summer life is now at its zenith with tho merry throng of visitors, who have put in the busiest week since the season opened. Moonlight sails, lawn fetes, beach excursions, entertainments, euchres and dances have constituted the principal amusements and will be repeated during the coming week. The women's night given by the Freeport Club, was a feature of the numerous events. NOTES. After a pleasant sojourn of two weeks In Ulster Ccunty.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Amend have returned to Woodcleft for the tearon. Mr.

and Mrs. James H. Crulkshank have returned from a. cruise in the East Bay. A Manhattan newspaper is filling up its columns with sensational accounts of spirited yacht races between young women, hairbreadth escapes from drowning and other thical happenings.

It is well such stuff Is paid for by the line. Miss Louise Court, daughter of Mrs. A. Court, proprietor of the Grove Park, is considered one of the most proficient youns women swimmers of the season. She is of athlotic build and is good at long distances.

Mrs. Henry Gobets and children are visiting at Southampton. Air. and Mrs. Hiram R.

Smith have returned from a visit to Portland, Me. Mrs: Georpe T. Van Riper Is visiting at Clifton cprinKS. Miss Etta J. Carman has returned from a visit to New Jersey.

The Epwort'i League will hold a moonlight sail to Point Lookout Beach Tuesday evening, going by the steamer Sea Gull. The Young Society of Christian Endeavor are arranging for a beach excursion. Carl Zobeski, the talented Polish tenor, and Mr. Haycock entertained a large audience at the Grove Park on the 14th. The Grove Park patrons, chaperoned by Mrs.

Court, took a moonlight pail to Point Lookout last night and had a hep at one of. the pavilions by the seaside. Bathing in the surf at Point Lookout is becoming, popular. Crowds from all the hotels are there fine day for 'a. dip.

Weakflsh have been plentiful the past week and many large catches are reported. Commissioner of Jurors Edward J. Knauer, Thomas Hume and George Andersen of Astoria wero among the lucky anglers. The largest fish landed weighed about ten pounds. A party of Woodcleft Inn young folks had a pleasant ride to Garden City Monday night.

The party took dinner at the hotel there and returned by moonlight. Mrs. Thomas Powers and daughters, Edna and Mabel, are visiting J. V. Powers at Westchester, x.

Massapequa. The past week has been the most enjoyable of the season with visitors to this attractive summering place, good weather and numerous events serving to make the seven days interval a continuous cycle of pleasure. Indoor and outdoor pastimes have vied strongly' for first place, but thus far neither can claim any leadership, as both have been followed with great frequency daily. The coming week also promises to be a busy one all kinds of sport, with numerous outings on the bay. NOTES.

In the golf handicap match played on the 12th eighteen holes, the best gross score was made F. P. Davis of Manhattan, whose total was 91. Malcolm Ormsbee of Brooklyn, one the cottagers, made the best net score at 95, under a handicap of 9. The sacred concert given in the hotel parlor last Sunday evening was exceptionally fine and listened to by all the guests.

In addition to four numbers by the orchestra. Master Edwin Wolff Manhattan played a valse by Chopin on the piano, which received rounds of applause. Mrs. L. Young of Manhattan also gave an interesting number, a vocal solo entitled "Once." Another concert will be given this Sunday night.

One of the cottagers had a burglar scare a few nights ago. He fired couple of wild shots at some fleeting figures seen on the porch of his cottage at an early hour, but he does not yet know whether the persons he shot at were some his servants returning from a cakewalk or genuine burglars and the servants won't tell him. The shirt waist dance at the hotel had a crowd participants and afforded more amusement than any event of the season. It Is intended to repeat the event before the season closes. A bean bag party was given Friday night at the hotel.

A well filled house and contented patrons is now the condition of affairs at the Massapequa. Following the last unusually successful season. Messrs. Snedeker proprietors of the house, are encouraged to see trade increased for at least part of the season, which has been backward at all resorts on the south side. Massapequa and Amityville summer visitors frequently enjoy an interchange of visits, which makes their stay at these resorts doubly pleasant.

Lawn tennis, which was a favorite pastime at this resort a few years ago, has but few enthusiasts this season, having been supplanted by ping pong, otherwise known as table tennis. The coming swimming match between Mrs. Bar dell of Brooklyn and Mrs. Beach of Newark. N. is the talk among the Ocean Avenue Hotel folks, and both have a host of willing bettors ready to place their money on their favorite city's representative.

George Cabbie of Islip came up in his yacht Uncle Van last week and dined a party of eight at the Mascot. The prize winners at the regular Tuesday euchre at the Cliffton last week were Mrs. Giles, Mrs. Parks. Mrs.

Finkils. Mr. Tremper and Mrs. A. Waycott.

Professor Hubert has made a reputation among the Cliffton House colony as a ppeechmaker, his maiden effort In that line being noted last Tuesday evening at the stoop party given by a number of young girls. The professor and Miss May Dillon also won honors with their vocal duet. A party of ten were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kellar at dinner at the new Fire Island Hotel, at Fire Island, last Saturday.

Friday was a gala night at the Bay Avenue Cottage. Jack Washburne of Brooklyn entertaining with several impcrscnations of Dan Daly in "The New Yorkers. Mrs. Brion sang selections from "Canney" and llttl? Edna Rosst danced the sailor's hornpipe. Tuesday evening's euchre at the Bay Avenue Cottage was an enjoyable affair.

Prizes were won by Mrs. S. Pediow, Miss Cora Valentine. Mrs. Burk? and Mr.

Watt. Croquet has been revived among the patrons of tho Ocean Avenue Hotel, and the leaders among the women are Mrs. Cone and Mrs. A. Banlell of Brooklyn is spending the summer between the Ocean Avenue Hotel and his handsome yacht Lillian.

.1. Wasnhurno and family, who hav seen grow from Its infancy as a summer resort, are again at the Bay Avenue Cottage. A successful crabbing party was given bv the Misses Mabel Hall, Mr. Herron and Lester 'Brior on Men da; Miss Addie Washburne of Brooklyn Is said to be the finest equestrienne on the local boulevards. Miss sYashburno manages her horse and handles the reins in excellent form.

The cool evenings have been productive of some excellent dance programmes, which has been the principal indoor diversion. The bay has attracted the usual crowd every day when it didn't rain. NOTES. Thompson is an old friend. The recipient of the honor owns the historic Sagklkas Manor farm, in West Islip. The Watson House reports a full house for July and most of its rooms booked for August, X. E. Chesfteld and family of Brooklyn are at their cottage for the Miss Marie Robinson was the recent guest of her uncle, John S.

Foster, at the Meadows' cot 3The guests at the Santapogue1 report a Jolly time with music and cards. Last Saturday a party was made up and well attended the hop at the Argyle. Wednesday evening a whist party and a musical formed an interesting programme, those taking part in the latter being Mrs. Head ley, Miss Kitty Prince. Mrs.

W. A. Bell and Mrs. J. Edwards.

Fishing and sailing parties were the order of the week at the Argyle. Dr. Jennings, the house physician at the Argyle, pronounces Babylon air as most beneficial for the general complaint of "hot weather," and the doctor savs "there's no mosquitoes here, either." Young men are said to be scarce hereabouts this summer, and the managers of the Argyle have made special rates to supply this deficiency for the girls now enrolled and without summer beaux. James R. Sutton are to spend the summer with Mr. Sutton's brother. E. B.

Powell of Brooklyn entertained a party of friends aboard his yacht Ethel on Tuesday The visit of Admiral Schley at the Ludlow mansion last week was the general topic of conversation among the summer folks. Morgan Reynolds, who has been summering at the Magraw cottage cn Foster avenue, cut his foot badly while pushing his boat oft the stone breakwater at the mouth of Brown's River last woek. and had to he removed to his home at East Orange, N. J. A brilliant social event was the dinner given at the Bourne mansion last Saturday. New York orchestra furnished delightful music "and the affair was on a par with the usual Bourne generosity.

A. P. Foster, the popular proprietor of the Delavan. was given a surprise on hip Tfith birthday last week. The surprise was ablv managed by Boniface Foster's daughters.

Brawling and family. Lawrence. Outdoor sports are attracting considerable attention here, and commencing on Saturday, July 26, a handicap tournament will held at the Lawrence Tennis Club, for which many entries have already been received. Automobiling, driving and golf are being largely indulged in by the summer colonists, and visits to the Hunt Club at Cedarhurst are daily features of social life here. The second of a series of subscription dances will be given next Saturday evening in Lawrence Hall.

A very successful progressive euchre party was held at the Ocean House on Wednesday night, the players occupying fifteen tables. After the allotted time for play had expired and the tally cards were collected, the prize winners proved to be Miss Eleanor Jturphy, Miss Mary E. Dollard and Miss Irene Dunne, and the men's prizes were won by J.

O. Bedell, T. Doyle and D. J. Quinlin.
