J. Lamb, Misses Lamb. Setauket. Here is an ideal spot on the shores of Long Island Sound, at which to spend a quiet month or so of the summer. An absence of large hotels nncessarily restricts the social life of the place for the summer visitor, but the natural opportunities for amusement are many.

There are few prettier roads on the island and driving is a popular pastime, while the boating, bathing and fishing are of the best. That Setauket is appreciated by the city folk is evident from the numerous cottages in process of erection on the shore. A few years should be sufficient for a rapid development ot this pretty village into a popular summer resort. NOTES. Miss Charlotte Newton of Brooklyn is a cuest iting their brother, Captain Winrietd S.

Overton, I past week, there has been plenty doing at this place. The boys and girls, old and young, have been busy planning some line of fun both day and night. Cards and dancing have obtained a strong foothold here, though the past week has been responsible for a number of moonlight sails and straw riding parties. Wednesday evening was ideal for lunar diversions and the beach was crowded with merry parties. NOTES.

Fire Island. The thermometer here during the week has marked an average of 76 degrees, with the breezes coming in from the Atlantic to put a veto on any perceptible increase In temperature, and it is not wonderful, therefore, how acceptable "the light" Is to parties from the mainland, for whom H. Arthur Catcn of the new Fire Island Hotel is constantly called on to cater. Dinner parties at the hotel have been the rule all week, and society folk from Babylon, Bay Shore, Sayville, Oakdale and even as far as Brooklyn and Manhattan, find a voracious appetite by the sail across the bay, and plpnty of the best to satisfy it on reaching one of tho best appointed up to date caravansaries on the island. and Mrs. William H. Cook Shelter Island. With the approach of the August days, Shelter Island approaches what might be said to be the height of its summer season. A conservative estimate of the number of guests at the hotels and boarding houses would figure well over a thousand.

At the Manhansctt House, a goodly crowd of Ave hundred makes merry day and night and the hotel corridors, the roads and beaches, bear evidence of the unusual attendance at this popular house. The available cottages are all taken and at the Heights, the Prospect House is the headquarters of a large and fashionable colony thoroughly enjoying the methods of natural and artificial enjoyment. August will witness a season seldom equaled and never surpassed at the island, should the expectations of the hotel proprietors materialize fully. NOTES.
