July 27 It is impossible to obtain an authoritative expression of opinion on the rumor that negotiations are pending looking to the absorption by the Atlantic Coast Line of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, which Is controlled by J. Pierpont Morgan Co. In financial circles hers the general Impression prevails that the report is well founded. "I think Mr.

Morgan has already practically turned the road over to the coast line," said a member of one of the leading banking Tinas. "The two roads do not parallel anywhere and have a physical connection at Augusta, Ga through the Georgia Railroad, which runs from Atlanta to Augusta and which is leased jointly by them." The trade In wheat was quite active this morning, and prices were weak and lower, selling down readily in early operations, then steadied. The selling was on the favorable weather abroad, lower foreign markets and quite a liberal selling by foreign houses of deferred futures. The receipts were again heavy at winter wheat points, and there was a large increase in St. Louis Btocks, 9T6.000 bushels, although Kansas City showed only a small Increase, 98,000 bushels. There was a good decrease In northwestern points, 1, 135,000 bushels.

The weather was in the northwest for maturing and harvesting the crop, although there were more rains In the lake region and southwest through Kansas and Nebraska. The expectation of a large increase in the visible supply during the morning Influenced prices to a certain extent, but on the other hand there was a. little appearance of congestion. Although there Is considerable selling of wheat on the large receipts, the movement is no larger than ordinary at this season, the disappointing feature being the absence of oig demand. Bid Asked. Bid. Asked London, July 28 Increased demand for borrowings and renewed scarcity of funds were attributed to day to the Stock Exchange settlement. Discounts were firm. On the Stock Exchange prices opened undecided and there was little doing beyond arrangements for the account, which were not large, several large weak speculative accounts have been liquidated.

Gilt edged securities were easier and home rails were irregular. Americans were firm and above parity, though there was a less confident tone afterward and they became quietly irregular. Fractional relapses occurred and they closed .30 .03 i6 THE .14 Iron .90 Isabella .25 Julia .02 Jack Pot 09 Kings Pern .06 Lacrosse Off .06 Little Chief .11 Mexican 48 Moulton 20 Mol. Increasing violence in the coal regions is reported. It is stated that under the existing arrangement between the miner and the laborer, the latter was often forced to bid for work, and it is claimed that the laborers did not get all of the 10 per cent. Increase In wages granted by the companies by the end of the 1900 strike, the miners retaining part of it themselves. When work is resumed In the anthracite regions the operators themselves will pay the laborers and thos remove the cause of complaint. A collision is feared at No.
