To the Editor of the Bi'ooklyn Eagle: It has been said that a woman's intuitional gifts will aid her to judge character, when a man with all bis logic will be at fault. It has been the writer's good fortune to hear both of Mr. Bryan's speeches at the Jefferson ian dinners and she could not but notice that notwithstanding the fullness of the newspaper reports given, not one of the writers chose to go beneath the surface and account for the real source of Mr. Bryan's enormous popularity as a public speaker. It is the dynamic force of the soul quality in this man of ideas and ideals that sways bis audience.

All men and all women, too, worship goodness when it is united to unquestioned intellectual power. Such is the personality of William Jennings Bryan and it thought can create its own environment may it not be that this man, who is destined to leave the impress of a noble individuality upon his time can at rare momemnts so uplift men of grosser fibre that they can see their nobler selves reflected as in a looking glass, and a great hunger and thirst after righteousness comes upon them? Only in such a way can the writer account for the outpouring of the spirit she witnessed at the labor dinner. It is not hard to believe in honesty Mr. Bryan speaks of it. Patriotism ceases to 'oe a mere symbol and mean selfish motives skulk out of sight in the presence of this man.

If some of his hearers sink back into an almost partial indifference to the burning question of the. hour, so much the worse for them. It is surely no fault of Mr. Bryan's that he can not make men any better than they choose to be. He may or many not be president.

That is immaterial. Presidents can always be found up to the present standard of political morality, but, let us take care that no injustice be done to "the man of ideas and ideals." This man may never realize his ideals. All the worse for us. But it will be well with him. It will be said of him in days to come that he added to the thought of his time.

This is to do the public a great service. This is to walk kingly among men. A nation can not afford to flout its ideals. Or to put out the sacred fires upon its altars, and say to them that say to the pure in spirit "Thou shalt suffer." It is suicidal. ANNA H.

McWLLAMS Vice Presidonta. HER IV! ON MORRIS, Secretary. The trade in wheat was good early, hut the market was weak and lower. The opening was at a slight decline and for some time there was a comparatively steady tone, but soon prices developed weakness and eased oft lVc from yesterday's final. The market was influenced by the steadiness of the cables which showed some improvement over last night, and there was some buying by the foreign houses.

The demand was not energetic, however, and soon prices began to weaken. The market was affected also, by the continued favorable weather conditions. The seeding was about completed at the end of last week, up to the middle line of Minnesota, and was reported from 20 to 40 per cent, complete above that line. It is claimed that there is likely to be some decrease area, although on the other hand there are equally positive claims that there will be an increase. It is too early yet to make any positive estimate on the area, and the so called crop experts who are talking about the crop of spring wheat are simply talking without the slightest foundation for statements made.

There has been moderate growth of winter wheat, and by the end of the month it will be quite possible to show how much damage has been done by the winter. At midday the market was weak at the lowest figures of the morning. Wheat was weak and active at midday on the good weather and the favorable reports regarding the condition of the growing grain. There was considerable selling by the longs who were loaded upon the recent rise and general willingness was seen to get out. There was fair foreign buying of futures and there were reports of large export interest in cash.

Bradstreet's showed a fair decrease, as expected. Wheat was nervous late and fairly active, rallying on reports of good export sales, but the close was easy at the lowest. Exporters took 35 loads and reports were unconfirmed of 125 loads. The trade in' corn was moderately active and prices were a little easier with wheat. The cables were firm and further good foreign inquiry was reported.
