London American railway shares opened dull on lower overnight prices from New York, but after partially recovered. The market, however, was unsettled and Inclined to wait for further advices from New York.

The closing tone was quiet but steady with little doing. Money was lal per Rate of discount in the open market for short and three months' bills was 2 per cent. Berlin Spanish fours were weak on tho Boerse to day owing to trie decision of the Spanish cabinet not to pay the public debt coupon due July 5 until the approval of the Chamber of Deputies has secured. Americans and Canadian Pacific were dull on London advices. Iron shares advanced sharply, owing to speculative purchases.

Bank shares were dull. Exchange on London was 20 marks 45 pfennigs for checks. Paris Three per cent, rentes were 102 francs 27V4 centimes for the account. Exchange on London was 25 francs 20 centimes for checks. Fr7ankfort Business was irregular on the No.

191 Montague Street. The wheat market opened nervous and strong, particularly in the local market, which rose c. to 80 for July, while the Chicago market was up hie. to "5. Prices fell back to a fraction below tfoe final of last night, and trade was very dull all the morning.

The market was disappointed that the crop and weather news was not of a more serious character, although there is plenty of talk of an unfavorable nature, and any number of pessimistic claims as to the re3ult. The so called crop experts differ widely In their views. Thoman still insists on a reasonably fair result and Show talks of 50,000,000 bushels less than Thoman, and Prime claims that the crop has been severely Infected with Hessian fly and the outlook Is very bad. He also estimate that 10 to 20 per cent of the spring wheat acreage Is yet to be seeded and that there will be a decrease of 10 to 15 per cent, in the acreage tor the season. Such pessimistic statements do not coincide In spring wheat, with any other statements.

The world's exports were about as indicated yesterday and tfie total is 6,244,000 bushels against 8,628,000 bushels the previous week and 12,204,000 bushels last year. The Liverpool markets were closed, but London was firmer, and Beerbohm cabled reports of drought in Roumania, of unfavorable reports from South Russia and made the European visible 62,000,000 bushels. Wheat was weaker after midday and more active. There appeared to be a good deal of long wheat for eale by traders, although there were numerous damage reports, Michigan coming to the front with private reports of 75 per cent, damage in some sections and prices went down instead of up. There was not a great deal of outside trade and the export demand was light.

It was stated that two steamers were relet to day at $2,000 loss, which had been taken for this month's loading, but the wheat was held back by the Buffalo strike. Trade in wheat was irregular late closing at the lowest. Exporters had few orders and only five loads were reported here and 100,000 bushels frooi the West. There was a weak market in corn, prices declining Ji to during the cnorr.ing in face of the i eports tiiat the Buffalo strike had beeti declared off. and all the men will return to work to morrow.

A very heavy movement of grain from Buffalo of all kinds is expected during the next ten das. The world's exports for the week were 4,385.000 bushels, against bushels the previous week and 000 bushels last year. The crop reporLs are generally favorable, although Prime claims that 2fJ to 80 per cent, of the area is yet to be planted, but this does not agree with other estimates. Corn was heavy in the afternoon. There was good export inquiry for export, but the long delayed movement of corn from the West.

The grain has been held in store and ou board vessels so long that hot corn is a factor in the trade and many are selling corn on that, believing that if hot weather comes back soon a great deal of corn will get out of condition. Corn was steady late on good export sales, shippers taking ab jut fifty loads mainly at New York. The trade in oats was quiet, with prices showing weakness oa the very favorable crop reports from all over the country. The market opened about steady, but sold off Vi to with very little resistance. Oats closed quiet and about steady.

The provision market was firm, but not active. Live hogs were 5 to 10c higher on light receipts, but this did not influence the market materially. Provisions were dull late, closing steady. CASH MARKETS AT NEW YORK. ducks, 22a23c; capons, 20a22c; turk eys.

Since January 1, $184,199,595, against $192,288,168 in the corresponding period last year. NOTES OF THE MARKETS.

A meeting of blast owners will be'helfi at Cleveland to day, and it is said that the association will probably advance the price of Bessemer pig to $17, valley price, which would make the Pittsburg price $17.65. Bessemer pig iron will be scarce the remainder of the year. The output, which is limited, has been "pretty well bought up by the large concerns. The small amount that remains will be held at a premium, and the price will probably be still further advanced within a few weeks. The wants of consumers for the last half of the year have been estimated, and it has been figured out that the producers of both valleys cannct supply the demsnd.

The shortage, it is estimated, will amount to between 100,000 and 150,000 tons. The textile markets are unchanged in point of continued strength of tone and volume of dealings, scarcity of supplies in certain lines stiil restricts operations. Full prices are secured all around. The foundation of a good autumn trade has already bean laid. Out.

of town advices are of a somewhat lighter distribution. Higher figures are expecled for prints. The domestic white goods market Is in good condition. Business In leather at the moment i mainly confined to the movement of leather on old co: tracts, but the tone Is firm and full prices are required and are secured. Belting butts especially are well held.

Hides are dull, but display continued firmness, although the demand is apparently a shade less urgent than of late. The Black Diamond, of the best authorities on the anthracite and bituminous coal industries, says: "There is very little change In the conditions having an influeaco oa the anthracite coal trade in the West, except that lake shipments arc being interfered with at Buffalo, on aceount of strike trouble, and, consequently, receipts at ports on the lower lakes have been greatly reduced during the past ten days. Prospects are not favorable for an early settlement of the strike of the grain shovelers at Buffalo and other Lake Erie ports, where there is something of a blockade of coal and some railroads have ceased forwarding coal until the situation is There is more inquiry for anthracite but so far the actual orders placed for coal are few and the tonnage Insignificant, which is, perhaps, just as well, on account of the light receipts from the East. The market continues firm at May circular of $4.75 broken and $5 for smaller sizes. The me aace of a strike in the anthracite regions, which is being circulated by certain papers, is not seriously regarded by the producing interests.

In the meantime the market manifests a strong tone and apparently full confidence is everywhere prevalent." European sugar cables were unchanged. May beets were 13s 3d; June beets were lis 3d. Domestic markets were unchanged. At Colorado Springs mining stocks closed yesterday as follows: Anaconda. 53; Anehoria, 95; Argenturu.
