and a Brflcze h1iTTS, at lh Eerts. Hotel Arrivals. Although yesterday wna the dnv Autumn it gave no indication that the season at Ialand is waning. Tho weather was so warm that oven by tho water aide little relief was obtainable. Thero was scarcely any wind illrrinff.

Tho noa showed hardly a ripple out beyond tha lluo of tho breakers, and tho flags on tho holela clung as closely to their polos as poor relations to a rich undo. The atmosphere was thick and hazy and fow patches of biuo were to be seen nnywhoro in tho sky. In the eyonlng it was slightly coolor on the Bhoro, but thero was such a haze that tho stars wore barely rlslblo. It was the opinion of some of tho woathor oiperts that the forest fires on tho Jor sey coast had something to do with tho muggy atmosphere. They woro, however, of the class of individuals who usually take their observations through "a glass darkly." AT DBIGHTON BEACH.

The Hotel Brighton bestowed its hospltablo accommodations upon many thousands of visitors during tho day ana evening. All the afternoon the plaza aud tho voraudaB woro crowded with richly dressed ladies and happy childron engaged in all luaunor of seaside play. Tho afternoon concert was up to tho point of usual cellonoo. Lovy, who was bewailing tho loss of a now straw hat, which had blown from his hoad on the train, nevertheless played with his accustomed skill, and won applause. There was au extensive indulgence In surf bathing.

Borne objections have boon mde to tho lys tem of taking care of the valuables of bathers at the Brighton Iloach Pavilion. An extra charge of 10 cents la imposod for the service, whilo at the other bathing houses, including tlm Manhattan, no additional ohargo is made. The bathing at Brighton, however, is excellent from tho Coney Island standpoint; although it cannot for a moment compare with that at ltockaway. Last evening the throngs at Brighton wero augmented on the arrival of every train. The musio was fine, aud betwoen enjoying it, studying tho big thermometer, roadlng tho bulletins of tho President a condition and trying to keep cool, tha visitors had a lively eaouuh time of It.

Ovor at West Brighton Beach the visitors wero numerous, and tho concerts at Uitbel it Eastman's Hotol and Paul Bauer's woro greatly enjoyod. Manhattan Beach was 'visited by bo many thousand pooplo that all the trains were crowded In the ovouing. The display of flrovArks givon near thu hotel was ono of the best of tha season. To night, unless It rains, Ihoro will ho a pyrotoolinio exhihltiou at tho Hotel Brighton. A reception Is to be given at tho Hotel Brighton this evening, to Goneral Edwin A.

Morrltt, ex Coiieotor of the Port of Now York, previous to his assuming his now position of Consul General at Liverpool. General Merritt will be made tho recipient of an appropriate testimonial.
