EXTRACTS FROM THE LAW. Chapter 563, Laws of 1SS8, Title 7. Section 10, and Title 13, Section 9, as amended by Chap, 599. Laws of 1SD2: On all taxes and on nil assessments for opening streets, flagging or reflagging sidewalks, fencing vacant lots, digging down vacant lots or the sewerins of any street or avenue, which shall hereafter be paid to the Collector before the expiration of one month from the time the same shall become due and payable, an allowance shall be made to the person or persons making such payments at the rate of seven and three tenths per centum per annum for the unexpired portion thereof. On all taxes, assessments and water ratea paid after the expiration of one month from the time the same shall have become due and payable there shall be added to and collected as part of every such tax.

Chapter 5S3. Laws of 1SSS, Title 7, Section 10 and Title 19. Section 9, as amended by Chapter 599, Laws of 1S92. On all taxes and on assessments for opening streets, flagging or re.t&gging sidewalks, fencing vacant lots, or digging down vacant jots, or the sewering of an3" street or avenue, which shall hereafter be paid to the Collector, before the expiration of one month from the time the same shall become due and payable, an allowance shall be made lo the person or persons making such paymen ts at the rate of seven and th ree ten hs per centum per annum, for the unexpired portion thereof. Each proposal must be accompanied by a deposit of four hundred (MOO) dollars in money, or by a certified check payable to order of the Commissioner of the Department of Fire, to be returned to the bidder in case his bid is rejected by the Department of Fire. In case the party or parties to whom the contract may be awarded shall neglect or refuse to enter into contract, the amount deposited, as above specified, will be retained as liquidated damages for such neglect or refusal. Specifications may be seen and forms of pro posuls can be procured on application at the Department of Proposals will not be considered unless accompanied by the deposit aforesaid, and also by on undertaking in writing, of two securities, on each proposal (who shall qualify as to their responsibility in the sum of four thousand ($4,000) dollars), that If the contract be awarded to the party or parties proposing they will become bound as his or their surety for "its faithful performance; and in case he or thev shall neglect or refuse to execute the contract.

If so awarded them, that they will pay to the City of Brooklyn the difference between the price so proposed and the price at which the contract may be made with any other person or persons.
