70; medium, peas, PILLSBURY VS. TSCHIG0R1N. America's Champion Outplaying thA Russian at "Vienna and May Keach. the Top To day. i Vienna; June 15 In addition to the thraa games finistied in the tenth round of the international Chess tournament yesterday morning, the decisions in which were duly cabled, the following results were announced at the end of the day's play: Halprin, Burn, Maroczy, Walbrodt, Steinitz, y2; Alapin.

I Schlechter, Schiffers, Showalter, i Jamowski, Tschigorin, Caro. Dr. Tar rasoh, who had beaten Marco in the morning, thus Tetamed the lead with seven games and a half to his credit, while Pillsbury followed close behind, by virtue of his triumph over Blackburne. The American champion was par cicularly elated over the latter's discomfiture, for, by bringing it about yesterday, he suc7 ceeded for the first time in breaking the spell which 'hitherto seems to have prevented him. from winning from the English veteran ia' either the previous tournaments or any of the cable matches, wherein they met.

Consequently, 'he considers it' as a good omen and' will continue to strive for the chief prize wita renewed confidence. Burn, the other Englishman, whom Showaltor has beaten twice by cable, is in great form and yesterday tied Jaiibwski for fourth and iifbh places, Alapia still being third. At 10 o'clock this morning the contestants started the eleventh round, paired as follows: Janowski vs. Blackburne, Schiffers vs. Showalter, Tarrasch vs.

Alapin vs. Marco, "Walbrodt vs. Steinitz, Burn vs. Maroczy, Trenchard vs. Halprin; Baird, a by; Card vs.

Lipke, and Pillsbury vs. Tschigorin. Play proceeded very slowly, the competitors being more than ordinarily cautious, so that at the 2 o'clock adjournment only one gamer between Caro and Lipke was finished, and that was drawn. Pillsbury, with but half a point separating him from Tarrasch, and the Russian chain pion, Tschigoriii, for an opponent, was putting? up the fight of his life in his effort to gain tha much coveted lead. In this he is very likelyi to succeed, inasmuch as he had the Russian at a decided disadvantage, which promised speedy victory after resumption of play.

Tarrasch, on the other hand, had made no headway against Schlechter. who was cleverly holding his own and biding his time to turn the tables on his redoubtable adversary. Blackburne. Alapin and Halprin had the calll, respectively, against Janowski, Marco and Trenchard. Neither Showater nor Steinitz had made any impression on their opponents' positions.

The rest of the games were perfectly even. The record up to date follows: PJay ers. Alapin Baird Blackburne Burn Caro Halprin W. L. Players.
