A successful attempt has been made to grow hops in the county of Dublin. A very good sample has been exhibited, and it is probable that the high prices demanded by English hop growers will cause an experiment to be made upon a larger scale to introduce the crop in this country. The Limerick Chronicle says it is justified in the strong and earnest hope that the Irish hierarchy," at their approaching mcetinfr on tie 1st of October, in Dublin, will spurn the contemplated advances of the government, which it is said, aro about to be made to the Catholic Church of this country, in tho shape of a pension or subsidy, by the Earl of Derby.

A few nights since a burglar in Brussels having gagged a servant girl to prevent her from crymg, and tied her legs to prevent her escape, found himself run out of cord when he pulled out his knife and cut oiTa lonir tress of the poor girl's hair, with which he tied her hands together. TnE Empbess Charlotte. A Paris journal says that the unfortunate Empress Charlotte of Mexico has become worse than ever, and there is now no hope of her recovery.

It records that a few days back she escaped from the chateau of Tervucrcn, wandered to a farmhouse at some distance, and there solicited employment as a servant. Another Tragedy in the Forest of1 Fontaineiii.eau.

A fresh incident has revived the emotion caused at Fontaineblcau by the murder of Madame Mertens. An olher dead body was discovered in the forest a few days back. It was lying in a ravine near the Koeher de Bouvigny, and almost entirely consumed by vermin; but tho deceased has been recognized by his clothes to have been an inhabitant of the town who disappeared some weeks since.
