1880. A88EMBLY SPAIN ATIONS. Tlio Doniocratio Asitcmblr Conyen tioai tuast Nigbt No eitoice in rir Iittric(ar. Tho Jfiemocratio Asaembly Conventions were bold last night, but nominations were made in only1 eoven out of the' twelve districts. The candidate lscted are as follows First District Jnhn Shanley.

Second District 'John MoTni nan. Third District "Liuroace Torino. Sixth District J. Tuliy. Bovontb District Andrew Beck.

Tenth District 'Richard J. Nuwman. Twolfth District Michael E. Flnnigan. 'Ronomluated: 1RST DISTRIfff.

Tho First Assembly District Conontion bold at No. 353 Furnian struct. T. 3. Murtha, presiding.

Mr. Mahoney movod tho nomination of Mr. John. Shanley, of the Sixth Ward, tho present member for tho die irlot. No other nominations being made, Mr.

Stanley was unanimously nominated. Ho mado a briof speech, in which he said ho would do oil In bis power, If elected, to have the present oxcise law modified, sud to secure the abolition of Btates prison labor wtion it conflicted, with tho interests of honest workingmen, SECOND DISTBICT. Tbe convention of the Seoond Distriot met at 22 Msla atreet, John Deochah, presiding. On motion of Mr. Harvey, seconded by Mr.

Dooley, Mr. John Mc Ternan, ot the Second Ward, was nominated for stsain bly on auanimoas rote. TUB TBIBD DIBTBIOT. Ths Third District Convention attracted a Isrg crowd of Third and Tenth Ward politicians. Mr.

Murphy nominated Laurencs 3, Tormey, the present Assemblyman. Mr. Hanley seconded the nomination, whicih was carried unanimously. Mr. Tormey having beon notified of the aotloa of tna convention, appeared and spoke of the great importance of the coming election and the necessity for nnited earnest work until the close of the polls on eleotioa day.

He was not, be said, one of those who was seared about the result of the Presidential contest. On the. contrary, he bollevod that the reverses In Indians and Ohio had had the effect of increasing tho determination of ths Democratic columns all over tha oountry to renew and carry on the fight with more vigor. While working for the success of all their lossl candidates, thoy should not neglect to seize every opportunity to make votes for thoir glorious standard bearer General Hancock. FOURTH DISTRIOT.

The Fourth District Convention met at the corner of Bridge and Tillary streets. Mr. Esgney nominated. Joseph M. Qnigley, and Mr.

Farley nominated Thomas Campbell as candidate for Assembly. Two ballots were taken, which resulted in a tie, ths Fifth Ward voting solid for Mr. Campbell, snd ths Eleventh for Qnigley. A discussion arose on ths availability of John M. Clancy, the present Assemblyman for tha distriot, for the nomination.

Ths delegates opposed his nomination on the ground that be had been already long enough in office and that tho nomination ahould by courtesy ba given to the Eleventh Ward. As it was evidont a deadlock could not be avoided thai convention adjourned until nine o'olock on Monaaj night. FIFTH DIBTBIOT. The Fifth District Convention adjourned to meet this evening at tha corner of Court and Nelson streots. SIXTH DISTBICT.

In the Sixth District, P. Tally was re nominated by a Fourteenth Wsrd delegate and Mr. Thomas F. Far roll by a member from the Fifteenth Ward. Tbree baU lots wero taken without a choice, there being a tie voto on each.

A recess of half an hour waa taken, and upon reassembling another ballot resulted as before, wlut the difference that Mr. M. Mclnerny was added to tha list of candidates and received one vote to two for Mr. Farrell, leaving Mr. Truly the three remaining.

Tha fifth ballot was the same, but on the sixth Mr. Tally gained the candidaoy with four rotes to two for Mr. Mclnerny, The nomination waa made unanimous. Tha chairman appointed a committee to notify the nominee, who was soon afterward presented to the hall, an din response to a general demand spoke briefly. He sold that at the lost session of the Legislature he endeavored, to care faithfully for the interests of not only tha district but the Stats at large.

It was true, he said, that, being a Democrat, he was but one of a small minority ot that house, a fact which, to a great extent, impaired, and impoded the efforts of the Democratic party for the public good, but ha trnatsd that would not be tha case in the next Assembly. There was, bs thought, good reaaonjto believe that the Democratic party would have a majority In feat body, and perhaps a majority sufficiently large to secure the election ot Democrat to succeed the Hon. Francis Eernan In tho United States Senate. This is desirable, as his votes and vote will be needed to support the administration of our gallant soldier statesman and standard bearer, General Wlnfleld Scott Hancock, who Will, without doubt, ba triumphantly elected. SIVXNTH MSTBIOT.

In the Seventh District Convention Mr. Frank Speugler nominated Andrew Book, and the vote in bia favor waa unanimous. A committee appointed for tha purpose found Mr. Beck, who was presented to tha convention, and in a few pertinent remarks accepted the nomination. EIGHTH DIBTBIOT.

In the Eighth District, Mr. Hyland nominated Jamea Dillon, of the Seventeenth Ward. Mr. Connolly, on behalf of tho Eighteenth Ward, put in nomination Mr. P.

J. Cornell, stating that he was equally ss good a Democrat as the candidate previously named. A ballot waa then taken, resulting in a tie vote. On motion of Mr. McCloy, the convention adjourned to meet to morrow evening, at eight o'olock.

TENTH DI8THICT. In the Tenth Assembly Dletriot Mr. Brogan, ot ths Ninth Ward, nominated Richard J. Newman, and Mr. Reynolds, of the Ninth, seconded the nomination.

Mr. Newman received a unanimous vote. A committee, consisting of Alderman Weir, Hancock and Murtha were appointed to wait upon Mr. Newman and to bring hlm before tbe convention. Iu a brief speech Mr.

Newman returned thanks for the honor, and pledged himself to do all that he could for the district. Mr. Newman was unanimously nominated for tha Assembly last year by the, Democrats and elected bya good majority. EtEVKNTH DIBTBIOT. The Eleventh District contention met at ths eornsr of Lafayette and Craason avenues.

After some oon sulfation as to candidates it waa resolved to adjourn un til 7 o'olock this evening st ths soma place, snd then malts the nomination. TWELFTH DISTRICT. fie Twelfth Assembly Distnot Convention met 1st Flatbnsh yesterday. The result was a surprise. A strong movement was made for the renomination of Erastus D.

Benedict, who was sleeted last yesr. He in troducad and succeeded in having passed a number of bills for the benefit of the towns snd killed 0 number osT others which would have bean disastrous in their 000 sequences to the taxpayers. Among the moat notabla ot these was the bill introduced by Mr. Russell, for tha Improvement of Naw Lots, which, if passed, would have buried the small property owners beneath a load of taxation. Most of tha delegates sent to the convention were instructed by their townspeople to vote far Mr.

Benedict, but before ths convention met the dels gates were Instructed by soma other authority not to vote for him. Previous to the convention they offered to give the nomination to any otber man in New Lota than Mr. Benedict, The delegates from New Lots refused to accept the proposition. The convention was presided over by Mr. John Y.

McKane. Mr. Horry Adorns, of New Lota, in a short speech, nominated the Hon. Erastus D. Benedict, air.

O. Yerks, of Flatlands, nominated Miokae) E. Flanagan. Ths nominations were closed, sad tha roll caUed. The vote stood Flnnegon, 11 Benedict, 6.

A motiaa to make the nomination unanimous was objected to by Messrs. Adams and King, and consequently was not put. A committee was appointed to wait upon Mr. Finns gan, to notify him of bia nomination, but ho oould not be found. Michael E.

Finnegan, the nominee, Is about 40 years, of age. He was born in New York but for a umbel, of years has lived in Flatbush. He ia employed as a searcher tn the Rsgistsr's oiSce. Ho has never held an elective office. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS.

He his weeded out several notoriously worthless polioomen and has dealt Fsverely with ths shiftless ones.

It General Jourdan's Intention i it to retain single man on tho force, however worthy he may be In other respects, who la given to the use of Intoxicating liquors, and several hnvo been dismissed on thiaground within the past few weeks. Ua has also given the force to understand that ho will not listen to tho friends' of polioemen who appeal to him for lenity In their bohalf, but will deolda every charge on the testimony given before him. He BSYerely rebuked an offlcor tho other day for going to City Works Commissioner French to a9k him for his Influence to sate him from the penalty of a vary serious offense. The captains, sergeants and roundsmen genorally are assisting tho General In elovating tho discipline among the men, and very percoptlblo dooroaso In tho number of offending policemen is the result. Thto week only eighteen charges agslnst dollnquout officers were oxamincd, and In moat ol thoao cases, the offenses ohargod not having been provon, the complaints were dismissed.

The number of charges has heretofore ranged from twonty flvo to forty a woek, and thla docroaao in tha number is most gratifying to General Jourdan, who had adopted tho motto "Spare the rod and apoil tho policeman." Ho thinks that it will save polioemen money and character in tho end II their offenaes ate met with severity at the start. Offloor William F. Klpley, of tho Tenth Preelnot, when appearing at roll call at 0 P. M. on the Hth was noticed by Sergeant Gregory to stagger.

He was called out of tho ranks by Captain Maokollar and given time to oool off before he was sent out on patrol. He admitted to Ganeral Jourdan that he had previously met some friends and drank four or five milk punches and afterward drank a bottle of beer. "Did yon expect to bs able to do patrol duty after sncb an infernal mixture?" aakod the Genoral. 'I don't know." replied tho officer. "I nevor tried it before." "Never try it again, If you care to remain on the the General.

The officer was fined five days' pay it being his first offense. Officer William Houdrickn, of tho Thirteenth Preelnot, told his superior officer, Captain Kaiser, a deliberate falsehood, and for this he was fined threo days' pfty. Officer John Jaoqnes, of tho Eighth Precinct, who entered a carpenter shop to "take a nail out of his shoe," as ho said, was fiued ono day's pay. Officer Garrett Van Wickltn, of tho Eighth Prooinct, was lined one day's pay for failing to report tho faot that a house had been moved on his post. Officer John Hurst, for falling to be on his relieving point in time, wan fined ono day's pay.

OCTOBER 22, 18S0. For Late Telegrams im the Tiro' or Four O'clock Edition, See Fonrtb Page. MONEY MARKET, THe Advance in How the Hovenient has Been Engineered. Cliques Unloading The Market Active. Wall 8TniteT, Ootober Since the lltb instant thorO has been an advance of 6 per cent.

In ths Erie and Psoiflo Mail, 7 In Lake Shore, 10 in Northwest, 7 In Western Union, 12 In St Paul add 5 In ths Wabashes, HannlbalJ and oos shares. The preferred Northwestorn Is up 15, snd the preferred St Paul 8 per oent. This movement In tbs grangers bas been mainly dne to manipulation sided by reports that the dlvldonds would be Increased In the form of scrip, but It Is a singular fact that daring this Interval cf ten days, LouisvUlo snd Nashville, on which, a scrip dividend of 100 per cent, has been declared, has remained almost without change, and that New.Vork Central haa moved upward only 6 per notwithstanding all ths talk about doubling the capital, and paying lout per cent, upon the diluted stock. The cliques In the granger stocks found a heavy short Interest snd they have sought to "twist" It. Mr.

Ssge was formerly a director In the St. Paul and knows all about tha property. He not only went short, but sold calls upon about 30,000 shares of tbe stook when It was low in the 30'a, Mr. Gould bos been largely short of the Norlhwestorns for many months, and these were the two gentlemen whom the clIgnoB have been pushing recently, and representationa have been made that ths grangers wore partially cornered, so as to Indues holders to refrain from selling out as the property rose. It has been observed, however, that while the talk among the cliques has been in favor ot muoh higher figures for tho grangers and Vandorbilt properties, these oporators have been unloading them, and it is believed that the properties hare passed from strong Into woak bands.

Mr. D. P. Morgan is said to hsvo bought largely of Lake Shore sad Northwestern on Saturday. Early this week the market was right for unloading, and it is presumed that he sold out.

Yesterday he is represented to have gone Into a pool for the purpose of advancing the coal shares, and under oover of this rise hi 8 pool will doubless unload the other properties which they hold. The conditional Battlement of ths differences between the Wabash and the Qulucy has not very favorably Influenced the Wabashea for the reason that professional speculators as a rule have very little faith in the permanency of any settlement which Mr. Gould haa anything to do with and moreover the Wabash must havo sustained heavy losses by reason of the cat iu passenger rates. The stock market was a little heavy st the opening, but ralliod at the coll, led by tho grangers, sud these stocks, the coal ahares and the Omahas and Vander bllt's were strong lind Imparted a firm tone to the whole list The market was Influenced to some extent by the arrival of $2,288,915 from Havre. Toward the close of the call prices yielded to realizations snd tbe market was Irregular at noon.
