DUAVDINU, FOR SAlE KEAIi ERTATE. suitiinEir rusouts. WANTED SII CAXIOSIS CIS CS. AK IS As ISsUl' MSfllAA. KS.

ILOUT tND frOWNO. 20TOlEDfflOI Cu jlruis ano jteip. SFOBTS AM) FA8TI ES. Base Boll. An Exciting Oontist.

It is plainly evident that we are to have some of toe most cicely contested games this season known tu tbe history of base bslU Two weeks ago Philadelphia was tne ecsne of contest unpiecrdented in professional annals, and yesterday we had auother of a aimilir kind here, the niatob ot Jnue 3, between the Boston and Mutual clubs, having had no equal before In this city. This ame waa noteworthy, not only from ita requiring twelve iuuiugB to decide the victory, buttUo from the evidence it afforded of the advantages of good management and gocd training over undisciplined skill. Beside which, it was ono of the best exhibitions of uphill fiiiLtlng ever seeu on tho grounds this season aud there havo been two or three nolablo displays of tbat kind. At tbe close of ths fourth iunlog the score stood at four to two in favcr of the Mueuals, the Near Yorkers alone earniug rnu. From this polut to the clcee it was uphill work for tho champi jns, aud iu th very last tnulng, when the Mutnals had three men on the bases and no one out, and only one run to get to escape defeat, it was ten to ono that tue Beds woald be defeated; and yet, though six men wont to the bat, to sharp was the fielding and sd skillful the atrategl play if the Bosions that the champlone came out of the oonte the victors, a.

more exciting inning was never played, and never was a game "pulled out of the fire" so creditably. The champions md all of th rough element against them, the jeers of the dirty blacbguaroa who compose the majority of tbe "fenc peepeiB1' being continually flung at the Beds," these i0)cw having a natural anilpatny to anything reputable. Fortunately, the visiting club had an umpire who not only had an intelligent ooinprehenston of the rules, but who had the nerve and courage to euforce Burdock's umpiring yenerday showing htm to ba one of the best, if not tlje best, umpirra we hive. The Bostoiia had the legal choice of the ball and they preteiiltd a lively one, and it just suite! the Mutual, wbo handled tbe ash better than In any of their previous games this season. Moreover, tuey fielded as if they were earnestly bent upon wiuulng, Hatfield especially distingnlshiighiuu'elf, while Hicks, witb a broken fore finger and a lame arm, played his por itiou iu tbe pluoklest manner, his throwing errors being excnsable.

Unquestionably the New York ulna outbatted tbe Bostons, but they lacked nerve and proper generalship, not to mention good sondition, and ao were outflowed. If ever a eouteft proved th superiority of fielding over batting as an element of dUcresB it was tbis game, inasmuch as toe atntuakl made all tbe earned runs of tbe game and sooret the most base bile, their totals being 18 aud 14 against IS and 14. The match showed wbat tbe Mutual, can do when they strive earnestly to do their best. Yesterday tbev went in to beat the Atlantic record by winning one more earn irom the "Reds" than the Brooklyn nine bad done, and they came near doing it. When these rival nines meet for their first match th will t6te.

Tbe IEIsforr of tbe Family Ti oublcs Tbe CbanGellor'a Dlaftnaraisibea ISccord Tbe Career of a Headstrong Son Divorce anil Revenge. The general foots of the shooking murder of Mansfield Tracy Walworth by hia son Frank H. Wat wortb at the Stvrtevant Honse, in New York, were published in the four o'clock edition of the Eaolb yesterday. The details of tbe case in no manner palliate the deliberate murder, although there is a narrative of family trouble that people might imagine would possibly lead up to auch a tragedy if the paitie had not been to widely separated. OHANCEW.OB WALWOBTH, father of tbe deceased, and, of course, a grandparent of the murderer, was for twenty years the Chief Judge of the Conrt of Chancery In tbia State.

He was an eminent jurist and bis decisions in important suits aro frequent matters of precedent In the CourtB to day. Ho was twica married, his seoond wife, still living, be ing the widow of Ool. John J. Hardin, of Kentucky, who was killed in 1847 at the battle of Buena Vista. Tbe Chancellor left two sons by his first wife, Msdb held Tracy and Clarenoe.

Clarence Borne years Blnce entered the Catholic priesthood, and is now tbe pastor of St. Mary's Church in Albany. He was Intending to start in a few days on an European tour, and had In vited Ma nephew Frank, the murderer, to accompany him. At her marriage with the Ohanoellor Mrs. Hardin bad a daughter Nellie, who of course became a step sister of her two step brothers.

The family cir cle waa pleasant, and the intimacy of the young people developed a stronger feeling between Miss Nellie and Mansfield, which resulted in their marriage. THE FAMILY MANSION at Saratoga Springs where the great Chancellor lived so many years, is situated on that village, about a mile from the principal hotels. It is a plain, unpretending old building, almost hidden from public gaze by magnificent elm trees, and possessing nothing attractive in appearance. The Chancellor died, aged eighty, abont six years since. His aon, MAN8STE1D TBAOY WALWOBTH, with every educational advantage, was early fitted for College, and in at the age of 16, had entered Union College at Schenectady.

He graduated two years later in a class of 140 members. He then studied law three years at Cambridge, and was admitted to practicefnot only in the jurta of tbis State, but in those of the United States, The first years of his married life were happy. Hia wife wa3 a beautiful and very attractive woman, but at a later period he became intemperate and a daily Bource of mortiflcs itou to them in hia carousals around the streets of the quiet village. WorBC than tbis, be became personally abusive to his family, using violence to his wife. Five rhildron were bom to tbem, two son9 and three daughters, tho eldest being Frank, the one who has killed tko father.

These brutalities of her husband became almost unbearable, and Mrs. Walworth ap renlfd to bis father, the Chancellor, for protection. The Chancellor sought to make her life happier, but tho wayward son was alap wilful, and went from bal to worse. He became utterly improvident, and so laxed the patience and the resouroes of his father that tbe senior Walworth threatened to repudiate him. To an almost constant habit of intoxication Walworth is reported to have added ABIT AT, INFIDELITY.

Tbis, when it became known to his faithful wifa who bad borne so much for him, was a crusl blow. He would leave Saratoga for daya together. Reports reached her of Mb dissipation in New York. At this L.eriod when he did return home ho Beamed to have sunk all the manhood that he had ever possessed. She was addressed with the vilese language, a mixture of profanity, obscenity and threatB.

About tbe beginning of the war, a long law suit In which he had acted for years as a clerk and which had afforded him a fair living, was abruptly terminated. His father then procured him a situation in the Stat Department Bt Washington, and for a short season there wis comparative peaoe in the household, and a hope was raised in the breast of his wife that after all her patience she was to be rewarded with a qrltet and happy life. In Washington ao ohanged waa he that he bore the reputation of being sober and industrious. He had had no Bnch record in Saratoga for years. Bat trouble was coming.

He waa arrested on a charge of furnishing secrets of the State Department to the Southern Confederacy. His father's influence only saved him from severe punishment. As it was ha was mad practically A PBISONEB OF STATE, being ordered to Saratoga without permission to leave that town. He signalised hia return by a complete relapse to his old habits. The sympathy of the staid society of that village waa all with his wife.

This, so far aa it found expression, only embittered the man's nature. When the war closed, and with it his enforced stay lu Saratoga, he oama to New York for a lime but again returned to the Springs. The Chancellor, in hia will, had bequeathed an annuity of 91,000 for the joint support of Mansfield, bis wife and oblldren. The death of the Ohanoellor only made the wretohed son a more persistent enemy to himself and family. Mrs.

Walworth was compelled to take her children and leave him. Both were poor. After remaining in Ken tuoky some time with her mother's friends, aha obtained a situation in the Treasury Department at Washington as a clerk, and there, on a meagre salary, supported her family for two years. During this rims, and before, her hasband'had begun to write novols, which were sufficiently successful in a pecuniary sense to bring him a fair Income. HIS FTBST NOVEL WAS "LULU." Tkis was followed by "Hotspur," "Warwick" and other volumes, besideB sketches and BtorieB he has contributed to the Borne Journal and tho Sea York Weekly.

Tbe style and merit of bis productions were sufficiently characterized in yesterday's Eagle. The greater portion of what he has written will not survive hia decease more tkan a decade. After two yeara at Washington Mrs. Walworth returned to Saratoga. She had not been recently disturbed by her husband nor had he contributed to her nor tbe children's Bupport.

She established a young lady's seminary at the old family homestead which was patronized by some wealthy and very reputable families and becamo a permanent source of income. Her husband soon after this began to write her threatening letters from New York. She procured a divorce from him In 1870 and has since had half the annuity loft by the Chancellor. It was tho frequent receipt of these aggravating letters whieb. made her shadowed life still more wretched.

The son, Frank, now 18 years old, began also, it is stated, to receive abusive Iettera from his father, and these, with some hs intercepted, fired his heart with a passion that has found a fearful vaut, JUDGE BABBOTJE, of New York, an elderly man, who was yesterday presiding in tho Superior Oourt, is related to the murdered man, his wife being a cousin of the deceased. Learning of the tragedy he immediately adjourned his court and secured the services of ox Dlstrlct Attor ney Garvin aa counsel for the murderer. THE NEW YOBE LIFE OF THE MTJBDEBED MAN. Despite the bad record of Monsfleld Tracy Walworth in hia domaetio relations, there are not a few favora blo things said of him by those who knew him in New York, Ho waa of quiet habits, somewhat taciturn, very reticent about his family affairs, honorable in hia business dealing and amiable when he did Indulge in conversation. His friends also maintain that he waa not lately an intemperate man, but would occaaionally drink.

In "Beverly," ono of his stories, it is alleged that he has introduced his family difficulties as a feature of the plot. If tbis Is so it ls probably the only good acoonnt to which they were aver turned. Of hia appearance and last hours among men the World says: In physique he was of stalwart frame, with a ruddy, good, natured countenance, and his gonial manners rendered him a pleasant companion. On Monday night he visited nearly all the picnics whioh came off on the east aide on that night, and he waa lait seeu by a friend, from whom he parted dn Fifty street to go home. Mr.

Walworth ocoupied a high place In the Masonio Fraternity, and it is a somewhat ourioua olrcuniBtance that when he was killed he was within a hundred yards of the hall la which he was to attend the annual communication. TBE TEAOEDY. There are no later details of the nrarder as aotually committed than were publiahod ta yeaterday'e Eagle. The admissions of the son that he killed hia father and his Immediate seeking to deliver himself to justice at once simplify matters, and th story as at first told remains substantially unchallenged. Some of his friends, however, aa appear by Interviews reported in the morning papers, appear to think hia statement aa to premeditating the crime point npen whioh he ls probably mistaken.

The admission becomes very serious, and those who wonld save him from the soaf fold Will slow to have the foot proved, THE YOUNG MUEDEBEB'S OHABAOTEB Is reported, In general respects, to be excellent, and ble disposition amiable. A morning paper saya of him. He' wis brought up In this atmosphere of domestic trouble, nnd as He grew towards man's estate he warmly espoused his mother's osuse, and more than onco confronted hia father and dared him to oentlnue his ill treatment and insults, He shared and brooded over hia mother's grief, and within the last year showed Ibat his father's temper and Impetuosity had descended to him and prompted him to action that should either putan end to the persecution or revenge yeara of anguish and insult.
