A native of Margaretville, Mr.

Smith was educated in the elementary and high schools of Margaretville and was graduated from the Albany State College, a normal school, at 19. He began his teaching career in Pine Hill, N. Immediately after his graduation, and served there for one year. Soon after the World War he succeeded in fostering legislation which permitted teachers of Nassau County schools to retire on pensions. He leaves a widow.

Crad- dock, 61, of 162 Bainbridge retired patrolman who was deco- rated for bravery while serving in the Police Department, will be held tomorrow with a solemn mass of requiem at 10 a.m. in the R. C.

Church of the Holy Rosary, Chaun-cey and Reid Ave. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Craddock, who died yesterday at his home, entered the Police Department in 1905 and retired in 1930. He was a member of the Police Honor Legion and in 1908 received medals from the United states Volunteer Life Saving Corps and the Life Saving Benevolent Association of New York for rescuing a man from drowning in the East River.

Mr. Craddock was born in Green-point on Oct. 14, 1878, the son of Michael and Ann Kenny Craddock, and was a member of the Green-point Y. M. C.

A. for 25 years. Two nieces, Mrs. James J. Fitzgerald and Mrs.

W. H. Fitzgerald, survive. the American Revolution and the Utrecht Study Club. Mrs.

Hargan is survived by a brother, William A. Dobson of Germantown, three daughters, Mrs. Richard H. Burton, Mrs. William E.

Rae and Mrs. Gilbert E. Pohl, and four sons, David D. Hargan, Augustus D. Hargan, G.

Bruce Hargan and James A. Hargan. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Hollls Avenue Congregational Church, Hol-lis Ave. at 211th Bellaire.

AT 11 Thomas 5. Reeves, Veteran Fireman Served in Red Hook 37 Years, Cited Twice Thomas Rexes, formerly a member of Er.g-.ne Company 202. N. Y. F.

D. in Red Hook, for 37 ears, died Wednesday at hi horn. 20 Woodruff Ave. He had received two citations for heroism, one of nhi'ii was for the revue of a woman and child at a fire Mr. Reeves was born B'ooklvn 67 xenrs aeo and the Fire Department in 1899 He re'ired in 1936 and had been for years assigned to th Deputy Fire Commissioner's office.

Surviving are his widow. Mary K. Reeves; a son, Thomas S. Reeves Jr three daughters. Mrs.

Arthur Friel and Mrs. Hartlev Derrick, and a grandson, Patrick Friel. The funeral will be held tomorrow from the home, with a solemn mass of requiem at Holy Innocents R. C. Church a' 10 am.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemeterv. William M. Butler, Racing Official Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Yonkers. July 5 Will. am Butler, vice president of the Empire City Racing died morning at the Butler family home, East View, of a heart ailment.

Born in 1892, he was a practicing lawyer with offices at 25 Broad Manhattan. His city residence was 1135 Park Ave. He was a widower. He was graduated from Georgetown University with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the class of 1916 and attended Fordham law receiving the degree of Bachelor of laws in 1919. The funeral will be held Monday at the B'i'ler Memorial Chapel, Marymount College, Tarrytown.

He Ls survived by one brother, James Butler, president of the Empire City Racing Association, and two sisters, Mrs. D. Philip MacGuire and Mrs. Waiter E. Travers.

Eschmann. Mr. Eschmann was born in Man hattan but, had lived in East New y0rk for the last, 43 years. He was a member of the board of directors of the Nassau Savings and Loan Association. The funeral will be held from the home at 9:30 a.m.

Frederick Behnke. pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, West New Briah-ton, S. I died today at his home. 90 Caroline West New Brighton.

He was 67. Although he had been in ill health for some time, he con-i tinued his duties through last Sun-; day. He had been pastor of St. Paul's since November, 1928, previously having been for eight years at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brooklyn. He also had served churches in New York and New Jersey, He was a graduate of Wagner Collese and Mount Airy Seminary.

Philadelphia. He was a member of the New York ministerium of the United Lutheran Church, Surving are his widow. Mrs. Florence Behnke; a daughter, Miss Mildred Behnke; two sisters. Mrs.

Carl Kammska of Petersburg, Mich, and Mrs. William Virk of Kendall. N. and three brothers, Richard of Knoxville, and Edward and Paul of Kendall. N.

Y. The body will lay in state in the church beginning Sunday. At 2 p.m. Monday funeral services will be conducted and burial will follow in the New York-New Jersey Mausoleum, North Bercen. N.

prominent subway enzineer and a member of the noted Litchfield family of this borough, who died Tuesday at his home, 55 E. 65th St Manhattan, were held today in the chapel of St. George's Church. 16th St. and Stuyvesant Square.

Manhattan. Mr. Litchfield, who helped construct the Brooklyn section of the I. R. T.

subway system, also was at one time assistant rhief engineer of the Emergency Relief Bureau In charge of work performed in this borough. Mr. Litchfield was educated at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and at the Stevens- Institute of Tech- nology. A son of the late William -B. and Emily Pope Litchfield, he i was descended from a family of railway builders, his father and grandfather being engaged in that pro- fe.ssion.

Under the late William Barclay Parsons chief engineer of the Rapid Transit Commission's engineering department. Mr. Litchfield was assistant resident engineer on the original section of the I. R. T.

which extended from 34th St. on the East Side to City Hall in Manhattan. He later helped construct Brooklyn sections of the I. R. T.

and the section of the West Side subway from 42d St. to 59th Manhattan. He formerly was head of his own concern, the Litchfield Construction Company, and after its dissolution engaged in general consulting engineering practice. He recently was consultant to the city in the construction of the East River Drive. He was a member of the University Club.

As head of the Litchfield Construction Company, which he organized, Mr, Litchfield was the KUR HENRY, on July 3. 1940, in his 78th year. Services at his residence. 8772 96th Street, Wood-haven, Friday, 8 p.m. Funeral Saturday, 2 p.m.

Smith came to Far Rock-away, then a part of Hempstead, in 1876 as teacher and principal of the Far Rockaway Public School. In 1895, three years before the consolidation of the Rockaways, he was named president of the Board of Education of the school district. He resigned three years later to become the principal of the Wood-mere Grammar School. Subsequently he was principal of the Valley Stream Grammar School. Mr.

Hargan Hargan, 88, Hargan, died home, 211-47 Mrs. Martha M. widow of James A. Wednesday at her 94th Queens Village. She was born at North Moorland, where her father, the Rev.

Augustas Dob-I son was a Presbyterian minister. Mrs. Hargan spent many of her childhood years at Moriches, and later when her father was called to Chester, accompanied the family there. In 1874 she married Jamea A. Hargan in Chester.
