Barbara's and Our Lady of SorrowsWas Ill Four Months Joseph A. Mengler, church organist and choral conductor for the last 25 years, died yesterday in his home, 75 Morgan after a long illness. Germany 46 years ago, Mr. Mengler lived in Brooklyn more 25 years. Mr.

Mengler WAS organist and choir conductor of Our Lady of Sorrows R. C. Church, Morgan Ave. Harrison Place, for 15 years and then went to St. Barbara's R.

C. Church, Central Ave. and Bleecker where he had been for the past nine years. He was taken ill last October. Mengler WAS a member of the United Choral Conductors of America and director of, the Williamsburg Damen Choir Brooklyn for the last 14 years and Badische Harmonie Gesangverein of Manhattan 10 years.

Surviving are his widow, Marie; a daughter, Margaret, and a son, Victor. The funeral will be held the chapel at 80 Harrison Place Monday; thence to Our Lady of Sorrows R. C. Church where a solemn requiem mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Archie M. Pickup Dies in Hospital Babylon, Feb. 12-Archie Munro Pickup, 63, of 491 Deer Park former head of an old Manhattan printing business, died yesterday in the Veterans Facility Hospital, the Bronx. Mr. Pickup succeeded his father, Frank, AS owner of the printery that still bears the latter's name and is located at 74 Duane Manhattan.

He retired four years ago, devoting himself to building sailboats AS a hobby. He fell in his workshop last November and had been crippled since. He served in the First Naval Battalion in the Spanish-American War and the infantry at Camp Upton uring the World War. A sister, Mrs. Albert E.

Brown, and a brother. Harry C. Pickup, survive. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow from the home.

Interment will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn. Rev. H. C. Withey The Rev.

Herbert Cookman Withey, one of the oldest Methodist missionaries in Portuguese West Africa in point of service, died Tuesday in Malange, Angola. He had lived in Cape Town in recent years, but had viisted Malange to confer with native preachers on translation work. Mr. Withey, who WAS 64, was an authority on the Kip oundu language, one of the principal native tongues of Africa. He was born in Lynn, and went to Africa at the age of 12 with his parents, the Rev.

and Mrs. Amos E. Withey. Livingston Gifford Livingston Gifford 290 Park Manhattan, head of the patent law firm of Gifford, Scull Burgess, of Manhattan, died in Atlantic City yesterday in his 82d year. Funeral services will be conducted in the home tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow in Green wood Cemetery. Gifford was born in South Bergen, Hudson County, N. J. He attended Phillips Academy at Andover. and was graduated from Yale in 1875.

Rand, former head of the Rand Rubber 397 Sumner was filed showing a gross estate of 945.85 and a net of $106,503.54. Mr. Rand died Sept. 4, 1935 in fire at his estate at Branford, Conn. The principal asset of the estate Was $56,793.65 in stocks and bonds.

The principal legatee was his widow, Gabriella Rand, of 346 New York who received $50.000 and the residue of the estate. The remainder was distributed among son, two daughters, grandson and four granddaughters. Mary Louise Adams, who died March 15, 1936, left an estate of $105,516.14 gross and $98.836.95 net. The principal asset of the estate WAS $63.896.47 worth of mortgages. The estate went to George B.

Adams, a nephew of 1212 Fifth Manhattan; Helen Adams McGovern, of 2046 E. 29th a niece and John Valentine Adams, of 223 Lenox a grandnephew, Clara H. Guion, who died Nov. 25, 1936, left an estate of $2,968.75 gross and $2,402.27 net, the entire estate consisting of shares of stock. It was distributed among a brother, Thomas of Lebanon, N.

a niece, Harriet of 867 E. 15th a niece, Florence Hunter, of 867 E. 15th and two nephews, James Bartlett Whiton, of 115 Lincoln and Robert Howard Whiton, of Westport. Annie Ward Left $8,867 Annie P. Ward, who died July 13, 1936 and who lived at 264 Clinton left an estate of $10.136.24 gross and $8,867.15 net consisting of shares of stocks and bonds to three cousins and nine friends.

Franziska Kubaski, who died Sept. 20, 1936 left an estate of $17,500 gross and $16,393 net. Her entire estate consisted of a half interest in real estate principally her home at 1498 Putnam Ave. valued at $8,000, a house at Hudson Ave. and Springfield Queens, valued at $12,500 and a house on Olive Long Beach, valued at $20.500.

The entire estate passed to her husband, Joseph. Anna M. Dougherty, who died June 19. 1934. leaving a gross estate of $5,500 and a net of $4,526.49 to her grand-nephew and niece, William F.

and Anna M. Lotterhos, of 1258 Sterling Place. The entire estate was in real estate at Sterling Place and Troy Ave. John Colby, who died Oct. 1, 1936, left an estate of $6.459.25 net to his sister Malvina W.

Colby of 651 Jefferson Ave. The principal asset is the Jefferson Ave. house valued at $6,000. Place, who died Sept. 1932, left L.

Adelaide Bliss, of, 1070 an estate of $7.500 in real property and $4,000 in personal property. A sister, Harriet Wiggins of the Prospect Place address received shares of Gorham Manufacturing Co. stock and all household effects. Hiram A. Bliss, a brother, of the Sherman Square Hotel, Manhattan, was bequeathed shares of the stock.

Five shares each were left to a nephew, Everett L. Bliss of 234. E. 19th William F. Bliss, another nephew, of 71 Pacific Franklin Square, L.

and a half-sister, Leila A. Sweet of Pawtucket, R. The unnamed balance of the stock is bequeathed to Howard Mackenzie, A nephew, of the Prospect Place address. Rabbis to Benefit Abraham Rothschild, who died at his home, 985 Park Place, Jan. 27, left $12,000 personal property, a portion in stocks which he bequeathed to relatives, with directions that other portions be turned over, when liquidated, to several Jewish congregations and to rabbis. Nicholas Society of Nassau Island, who died of heart trouble Wednesday in his home. Mr. Voorhees, who lived at 97-07 43d Corona, was born in Manhattan, but lived in Corona nearly all of his life. He was a member of the board of trustees of Union Church. He had been a member of the St.

Nicholas Society for many years and served as its president in 1924. Active as Republican Mr. Voorhees was described on his paternal side from Steven Coerten Vporhees, who settled in New Netherlands in 1660. He was active for some years in Republican politics and was a member of t'he Electoral College in He also was a member of Mizpah I. Lodge, A.

Freer, vice president of Standard Brands, who died of a heart attack yesterday in 1 a Manhattan hotel at the age of 68, will be held tomorrow at 1 p. m. in his home at Basking Ridge, N. J. Officers of the firm will be honorary pallbearers.

The place of burial has not been announced. Mr. Freer, who was born at Harrisonville, was in charge of traffic, purchasing equipment, real estate and construction for his company. He lived in Manhattan temporarily to direct delivery of his firm's products in the Ohio River flood zone. As a director of traffic for Fleischmann's Yeast which merged with Standard Brands in 1929, Mr.

Freer directed 3.500 vehicles through floods and earthquakes. He began his career as clerk for the Washington Baltimore Railroad in 1887 in Cincinnati, later becoming general freight agent of the Baltimore Ohio and chief clerk and general agent of the Norfolk Western. He was a member of the New York Traffic Club, the Canoe Brook Country Club, of Summit, N. and Toledo (Ohio) Lodge, F. A.

M. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Cornelia Bassett Freer; a brother, D. Freer, of Baltimore; sister, Mrs. Caroline Holland, of Washington, and a nephew, Federal Trade Commissioner Robert E.
