He plns his hopes on four newcomers: Benny Auerback, a six-footer from De Witt Clinton High School and star of the Violets' freshman team last year; Ed Stevens from Evander Childs, Irving Dubinsky of George Washing-tor: and Irving Resnick of New Utrecht. Shuffling these sophomores and varsity leftovers, Cann expects to turn out an outfit that will be on a par with the city's topnotchers.

He figures to have his troubles getting results, however, from three men who shared the fifth position on last season's squad and two first-year men, the former being Dowd, Lewis and Schilling and the latter Auerback and Resnick. Dowd and Schillig are football players and, as the general rule goes, fine guards, but they are short ience. Lewis is the type of player that is good and will continue to get better as long as he doesn't start using his head too much instead of his ability to dig and keep right on digging. So. that leaves the direction of the quintet on the floor to one of the sophomores, which probably means that the Violets will wirj games you expect them to lose and receive drubbings from outfits far down on the list of basketball ability.

You can learn loC about golfing by studying your left arm and the direction In which It points at different places In your swing. A mighty good theory on It is this: The line from your left hand to your left shoulder, from any place In your back swing, will be the directional line along which your clubhead will travel as it goes into the ball. Now remember that cardinal principle, and I think your shots will go a lot better. Refer to the picture which shows the top of the back swing with one of the long irons. Here the shaft is not quite so far around as would he the rasa wnrvrl nltth but the left arm line gives the cue to tne down swing, mat is to say, the line running from left hand to left shoulder joint is identically the same as the inslde-ouC line you should swing on as you swing clubhand tin tn fh hftll Hpntsp frnm the position here shown, Just swing; nanas urst lowara grouna, men clubhead through.

As a result every hunter who was deslrious of IravinK the woods for more protected localities was able to do so. In fact, there were but a few b-olated cases of distress and except for the fact some preferred not to leave their cars, many could have rome out of the woods on snowshoes immedaitpy after the storms. As is usually the case in such Instances, many wild rumors were spread, and all proved without foundation. In fact, the truth of the matter is that during the height of the State's rescue activities hunters Just arriving within the borders of Maine were endeavoring to get into the woods just as hard as the marooned men were trying to get out.

As a result of these, experiences, however, Maine officials have Issued a warning to those planning to go into the Washington and Hancock County areas between now and Dec.
