10-Henry Llewellyn D. Lewis, retired member of the New York Stock Exchange, died yesterday at Merriefield, his home here. Death was caused by coronary thrombosis. He was 61 years old. Mr.

Lewis was native of Piedmont, and" a great-greatgrandson of Betty Washington, only sister of George Washington, He was also related to the Byrd, Lee and Carter families of Virginia and the Stevenses of Castle Point, Hoboken, N. J. Following his graduation from Virginia Military Institute in 1898, Mr. Lewis came to New York and started his Wall Street career as a dealer in bank stock. Later he became a member of the Curb and Stock Exchanges and for' several years was a partner in Pynchon Co.

Ill health forced him to retire in 1931 and he moved his residence from 58 W. 57th Manhattan, to Hewlett. In 1916 Mr. Lewis married Miss Lucy Reis of Greenwich, Conn. They were divorced eight years later.

In 1925 married Miss Jessie Voss of Hewlett, who survives, as do two brothers, James F. and Fielding Lewis; a sister, Mrs. Anne Wylie Moore, all of Charlotte. N. another sister, Mrs.

William Wiley of New Jersey. Wood Estate Heirs Sought by Lawyer Northport, Jan. 10 An adult daughter and son who have not been heard from in 15 years were being sought today as possible heirs to the estate of Samuel Wood, 84, a retired stationary engineer, who died Friday at his home in Northport Gardens. William B. Codling, Northport attorney, who has Mr.

Wood's will, is seeking the children. All he knows of the daughter, he says, is that her first name was Florence and that she was married and had a daughter, Jessie, who would be about 26 now. The son, he says, is Wesley Willis Wood, who would be about 40. The nearest known is surviving sister rel- of ative, says Codling, a Mr. Wood's second wife.

This sister is Mrs. Lucie Harvey of 21-16 35th Astoria. Born on Nov. 26. 1853, in New Jersey, Mr.

Wood first married Mary Elizabeth Smith and in 1912 married Susie Serven, who died in 1933. Mr. Wood had seven children by his first wife, and it is two of these, believed to be surviving, who are sought by the attorney. Funeral plans are being in abeyance pending efforts to find the two children, Codling said. The value of the estate disposed of in the will has not been estimated.

Mrs. La Grange, Fireman's Widow Mrs. Lillian La Grange, an active member of the Brooklyn Catholic Big Sisters and of the Rosary Society and widow of a fireman killed in the line of duty, died Sunday at her home, 1302 Rogers Ave. Her husband, Fireman Joseph La Grange, was killed on May 20, 1932, in a collision between two pieces of fire apparatus responding to a false alarm turned in by a five-year-old boy. Eleven other firemen were hurt in the crash, which occurred at Boerum and Leonard Sts.

At the time Mr. La Grange was a member of Hook Ladder Company 108. Mrs. La Grange was the daughter of the late John and Mary McGuigan. Surviving are a son, Harold; a daughter, Gertrude; four sisters, Gertrude Ryan, Loretta Rauth, Margaret Kloess and Anna May McGuigan, and two brothers, George and Frank McGuigan.

A solemn requiem mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Jerome's R. C. Church.

10-Funeral services will be held tomorrow night for D. Stanley Corwin, Long Island building contractor, who died yesterday at his home, 639 Main after an illness of nine months. "The services will be held at the home and the Rev. Floyd Ellis, pastor of the Greenport Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery.

Mr. Corwin was born in Greenport, Dec. 4, 1875, the son of the late Charles and Electa Corwin, and was a lifetime resident of this village. He designed the plans for most of the buildings 1 he erected in various points on Long Island. He designed and built the Greenport Public Library and the Greenport Theater.

An accomplished violinist, Corwin taught music some years ago and was a member of the Greenport Philharmonic Society, which disbanded several years ago. He was at one time president of the Greenport Board of Education. Surviving Mr. Corwin are his wife, Mrs. Mary Skinner Corwin; two sons, Barton, of Greenport, and Stanley, a New York lawyer; a sister, Miss Bertha Corwin of Greenport, and a brother, Eugene Corwin, also of Greenport.

John Gruelle, 57. Cartoonist. Author Miami Springs, Jan. 10 (P)- John Gruelle, 57, cartoonist and writer whose book "Raggedy Ann" sold more than 3,000,000 copies, died of a heart attack in his home yesterday. He was born at Arcola.

and began his career as a newspaper cartoonist at the age of 19 at Indianapolis, where his political sketches appeared in the Sun, the Star and the Sentinel. Later he drew political cartoons for the Cleveland Press and for a syndicate. At the time of his death his comic character Brutus was a feature of the New York Herald Tribune. In 1910 Gruelle won a $2.000 prize offered by the New York Herald for the best comic character to be used in a full-page feature. Services Tonight For F.

Ja6 10-2t Louis Klein, 85, Sugar Broker Native of Brooklyn Began Career in Industry at the Age of 14 Years Louis Klein, 85, who was actively connected with the sugar industry for 70 years, died yesterday at his home, 50 Rugby Road, after an illness of six months. Mr. Klein was born in Williamsburg and at the age of 14 began his career with the old sugar refining firm of F. O. Matthiesen Wiechers.

1891 he branched out for himself as a sugar broker and mained in that capacity until he retired in 1936. His firm, Louis Klein Son, is located at 124 Front Manhattan. He was regarded as the dean of the sugar industry in this city. Mr. Klein was a member of the Royal Arcanum and is survived by a daughter, Grace L.

Klein, and two sons, Louis F. of Philadelphia, and William J. of Plandome. Services will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the home.

William Beckmann, 71, Retired Builder 0'Dwyer Promises Aid to Unfortunate County Judge Says He Won't Be Hard on VicNew timized First Offenders A promise to discriminate between hardened criminals and first offenders was made by County Judge William F. O'Dwyer his induction ceremonies today in Part 1 of the County Court. More than 500 friends, many of them police officers who served with him when he was a patrolman, jammed the courtroom to the walls to attend the induction. Judge George W. Martin, senior County Court judge, presided at the ceremonies.

Welcoming addresses were also made by Justice William F. Hagarty of the Appellate Division, Chief coustice William R. Bayes of the Special Sessions, District Attorney William F. X. Geoghan and former Magistrate Leo Healy, president of the Kings County Criminal Lawyers Association.

Responding to these addresses, Judge O'Dwyer declared he realized there was a great difference between the vicious criminal and the one victimized by circumstances. Partly Blames Society "That there are vicious criminals is not surprising," he said, "for the savage in many of us dies hard. One need only look at the newspaper headlines and perceive what is going on in other countries to see that." Judge O'Dwyer declared society partly to blame for many criminals, saying that a thorough analysis of available data in the adolescent and other courts by a central agency would supply al required data for more adequate crime prevention. "We need to effect rea crime prevention," he said. "To date we have just been playing at crime prevention." Others who spoke at the induction were Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May and Frank Holmes, representing the Brooklyn Bar Association.

Justice May referred to the new jurist's rise from immigrant laborer to the judiciary as "the romance of the life of O'Dwyer" and as proof that America is still the land of opportunity. Arrangements for the ceremonies were in charge of Chief Clerk James W. Tuomey of the County Court and his deputy, Joseph Saunders. Services Tonight For Miss E. Starkey Van Buren a lifelong resident of Brooklyn and a retired veteran employe of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, who died Saturday. The services will be conducted by the Rev. William McDermott, pastor of St. John's M. Church, of which Miss Starkey was an active member.

Eaton A solemn high requiem mass was celebrated today in St. Pascal Baylon R. C. Church, Bellaire, for Mrs. Margaret Teresa Eaton, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs.

Julia Meerbott, 114-49 207th St. Albans. Mrs. Eaton was the widow of Charles E. Eaton, who was active in Cathalic charitable work, and the mother of the late Phebe Blanckmeister.

He died a few minutes later after the Rev. Francis Bitter administred the last rites of the Church. McLaughlin was employed as a foreman for the Lily Tulip Cup Corporation at that company's plant in College Point. He was born in York and came to College Point 15 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Grace, and a stepson, Wilbur Brown.

Capt. W.H. D'Olier, Ex-Fireman, Dies Capt. William H. D'Olier, who retired in 1930 after 40 years service in the Fire Department, died yesterday in the Caledonian Hospital, where he underwent an operation.

He was 74 and lived at 1603 10th Avenue. Captain D'Olier was never absent from duty because of injury or illness during his long career as a fireman. After he retired, however, he was severely injured by a fall on the stairs in his home. He was born in Brooklyn and started his career on the old City of Brooklyn Fire Department, April 1, 1890, being first assigned to Engine Company 105 on Pierrepont St. Later he served with Engine Companies 139 and 157 here, and with Hook and Ladder Company 39, Manhattan.

In 1910 he was presented a 20- year service gold badge by the members of Engine Company 126. He was attached to Engine Company 228 when he retired, April 21, 1930. He received two citations for meritorious service. Captain D'Olier is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Walter W.

McMurtrie, of Engelwood, N. a son, William J. D'Olier, and a grandchild. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairchild Chpel, 86 Lefferts Place.

Armstrong, 55, of 58 Clinton Ave. died yesterday after a long illness. She was born in Brooklyn Sept. 2, 1882, daughter of the late Joseph Hennenlotter, and lived in Lynbrook for 20 years. Mrs.

Armstrong was active in the work of the Catholic Daughters of America, being an organizer and the first grand regent of Court of St. Raymond. She is survived by her husband, William J. Armstrong four daughters, Regina Clare Madeline G. and Mary M.

Armstrong; a son, William J. Armstrong and a brother, Theodore B. Hennenlotter. The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with a solemn requiem mass at 10 a.m.
