Kash-dan of Flatbush had succeeded in winning his fifteenth-round game in th U. S. Chess Federation tournament at the Hotel Astor In Manhattan from Irving Chernev, another borough player, in 33 moves last night. This gave Kash-dan a lead over Samuel Reshevsky of Boston, the title holder, who adjourned his game with Israel A. Horowitz in a somewhat precarious situation.

In order to prevent his title from passing to Kashdan, Reshevsky must someho'v find a drawing continuation. If not, he will lose and be placed second with a score of 12-3. Kashdan, thanks to his success over Chernev, finished his schedule with The all-important game between Reshevsky and Horowitz was scheduled to be finished for the Manhattan Chess Club, today, play starting at 4 p.m. Kashdan won 11 of his games outright, drew three and lost only one to Herman Steiner of Los An Bces in the tenth round. Thp draws were with Jacob Levin of Philadelphia in the fourth, Norman Lessing in the eleventh and Reshevsky in the fourteenth.

Reshevsky, on the other hand, had won all of his games, excepting four, which were drawn. In the women's championship Mrs. Nanny Roos and Mrs. Donald Belcher both won their games and tied at 62 for second place, below Miss N. May Karff of Boston, the champion, who won eight straight.
