He was the oldest member of the Juanita Democratic Club and also was an early member of Columbus Council, 126, C. and the K. of C. Veterans A-ssociation. Surviving Mr.

Van Wagner are his widow; three sons, William Eugene B. and Raymond T. Van Wagner, and two brothers, Alfred E. and former Police Inspector Jacob H. Van Wagner.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with a solemn Retired Physician Former Republican Club Treasurer at Woodmere Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Woodmere, Jan. 18 Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. for Dr. Edwin Dudley Smith, 74, who died Saturday at his home, 949 Central here.

The services will be in the home, and burial will in Wcodlawn Cemetery, in the Bronx. Dr. Smith was graduated from the College of Physicians and Sur- neons of Columbia University in 1889, at 21. and was one of the i youngest in his class. He retired 20 years ago, after 20 years' practice In New York.

Once active in politics, he formerly was treasurer of the Woodmerc-j Hewlett Republican Club. Dr. Smith was an ardent fisherman and an amateur horticulturist whose hobby was the growing, of dahlias. He leaves his wife, Elsie Tully Smith; three sons, Edward Dudley Jr. of Merriam, Paul Hol-lingsworth of Lynbrook, and Town-send Slater of Woodmere, a daughter, Ethel, also of Woodmere, and two sisters, Mrs.

George De Forrest Smith of Kingston, N. and Mrs. Lucille Martin of Great Barring-ton, Mafs. John T. Grieve, 68, Law Clerk 50 Years John Turner Grieve of 103-37 96th Ozone Park, for 50 years law clerk in the firm of Beals Nicholson, 230 Park Manhattan, died Saturday at his home following a brief illness.

He was 68. Mr. Grieve, who retired in 1941, leaves his widow, Mrs. Hattie Grieve; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Grieve, and two sisters, Mrs.

SEND WOMAN ROOF PERCHER TO HOSPITAL Police of the rescue squad, bombarded today by calls that a woman was perched on the roof-ledge of a five-story rooming house at 130 E. 16th Manhattan, rushed there just in time to find her coming down the house stairs. She described herself as Sylvia Pozen of 180 E. 18th and told police she could not recall how she got to the Manhattan address nor what she was doing on the roof. Police sent her to Columbus Hospital, Manhattan, as an amnesia victim.

3-ALARM FIRE SHUTS DOWN WAR PLANT ONLY 1 DAY Despite damage caused by a three-alarm fire Saturday night, the plant of the Welbilt Equi-Thermal Gas Range Company, 57-18 Flushing which is engaged In war work, will be in operation again tomorrow, it was announced today by A. P. Hirsth of 435 Avenue president. Fourteen fire companies responded to ihe three alarms, of which the first was turned in by a passerby at 11:15 p.m. Deputy Chief Timothy Donovan was in.

The third alarm, turned in at 11:40, was largely precautionary and the blaze was reported under control at 12:20 a.m. The plant is a brick structure, two stories in front and one in the rear, now devoted to the manufacture of ventilators, airplane landing mats and ammunition boxes for the navy. The blaze, believed to have started In the ceiling of a cafeteria on the first floor, was discovered by James Finn, 7112 Bay Parkway, the night watchman, in making his rounds. The fire damaged about 60 feet of the building's 225-foot frontage and burned through to the roof, but the rear of the structure was left virtually unscathed.

2 DIE IN FIRES ON STATEN ISLAND Within a half-hour of each other yesterday two persons died when fire broke out in their homes. Mrs. Madeline O'Donnel was burned to death on the second floor of her home at 287 Pelton West Bright ton, Staten Island. Later he was transferred to the torpedo boat U. S. S. Barry on which he was serving when the World War started. When the United States entered the war the Barry and the rest of the Asiatic destroyer flotilla steamed to the Mediterranean and Quan's fame as a chef spread throughout the Allied navies.

Once Gen. John J. Pershing ate his food when he went aboard the Barry. Pershing called for Quan and said: "If such delicious food was served our doughboys we would have on the war long aao." Quan was a particular favorite of the late President Calvin Coolidge and when he retired from the navy in 1929 and opened restaurant in New York. Coolidge sent him a let- tcr of best wishes.

PEDESTRIANS HIT BY TROLLEY Two men were injured last night when struck by a Graham Ave. trolley car as they were crossing Manhattan Ave. at Freeman St. They were Joseph Jablowski, 55, of 219 Freeman whose skull was fractured, and Stanley Sonkski, 64. of 68 IHipont who sustained lacerations of the forehead.

Street, 84, of 6717 Fort Hamilton Parkway, died Saturday in Kings County Hospital, a day following the death of her husband, Capt. Arthur W. F. Street, retired master mariner. Captain Street, who wjis 82, had followed the sea since 1879.

He had been a master since 1900 and made many convoy trips during the first World War in ships of the Lucken-bach Line. He was a member of George W. Flynn, Insurance Man Lieutenant in World War No. 1, Served in Cobleni Funeral services for George W. Flynn of 82-42 Kew Gardens Road, Kew Gardens, Jamaica Insurance man, who died yesterday in Queens General Hospital, will be held at 8 p.m.

Young Mayer was graduated from the Montauk Junior High School In June of 1940. Starting a course at the Manhattan Trade School of Avialtion, he left Just before completing his first year because "he wanted to see some action" and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in September, 1942. He received his basic training at Tyndall Field, Fla. Surviving also are four sisters. Mrs.

Tilyou, Kings County Administrator of the War Price and Rationing Board, today announced the appointment of William Jagger as deputy county ad ministrator. A native of Brooklyn, Mrs. Hyde wa a daushter of the late Alice Morse Earle, prominent Brooklyn author. For many yeaj-s she was a leader In organizations formed for the conservation of native flower and plants. She was vice president of the New England Wildflower Preservation Society, a member of the Litchfield Garden Club and also was active in several patriotic groups. Mrs.

Hyde also was widely known as a botanical artist and did many of the sketches in the recent abridgment of Webster Dictionary. During the first World War.
