Some of these plays offered by Werba's are not what they used to be, while others look Just as well or better here than they did on Broadway. "Mulatto" is one of those that look better. It is acted with great soberness and intensity by a cast as good as it ever had, among its players being Leon Janney and Abbie Mitchell. They are so much In earnest about it that they drag it out a little, taking plenty of time to let it sink in when as a matter of fact it isn't important enough for that. But without doubt this drama of miscegenation in Georgia seems Tru'di Schoop and Dancing Comedians Entertain Academy of Music Audience With New Work Entitled 'All for Love' When it comes to satiric by-play and the comic spirit expressed In the dance, bring on Trudi Schoop and her Dancing Comedians who presented "All for Love" at the Academy of Music last night as the 12th and last event in the "Music aod the Dance" series.

This was a show nimble-footed, light-hearted for the most part, and swiftly-paced, unpretentious, disarming and entertaining. Presented with great success In Manhattan on Monday night, the new ballet met with definite approval here though the audience not yet versed In the tecluiique of continental humor, naivete, and subtlety had first to adjust itself before deriving full appreciation from the fluent choreography. In many ways, this new work is the best that Trudi Schoop has created. 1 much less the phony sociolopica. Mulatto' A by Langston Hughes.

Bach's minor English Suite was more concise and also revealed better dynamic control. The classic group concluded with the flat Polonaise by Wilhelm Frledemann Bach and Handel's Chaconne In major. Chopin was represented by a number of Mazurkas, VaLses, Trois Eccossalses and the Andante Spia-nato Grande Polonaise Brllllante, Op. 22, which was not. so brilliant.

In her treatment of this music the recltalist made excessive use of rubato, which was detrimental to its rhythmic characteristics. Permissible perhaps in the folk dances of Eastern Europe, this kind of handling is not in the best taste when interpreting Chopin. The demands of this group also revealed some rather obvious technical insecurities. After the Intermission Miss Shubow devoted her attentions to dances by nineteenth and twentieth century composers, including Ravel's "Pavane Pour un Infante defunte," "Golliwogg's Cake Walk," by Debussy; the first performance of Charles Repper's "Easln" Along" and other works by Dett, Moritz.
