INVENTOR William L. Edison William L. Edison. Late Wizard's Son Graduate of Yale, Held Several Radio PatentsRetired Two Years Ago Wilmington, Aug. 11-Funeral services were being arranged today for William Leslie Edison, second son of the late Thomas A.

Edison, inventor, who died yesterday at his Westover Hills home at the age of 58. Like all of the inventor's sons, Mr. Edison inherited his father's interest in experimental research and held patents on many basic radio principles. He retired from active work two years ago. Graduate of Yale He was born at Menol Park, N.

and was graduated from the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale in 1900. He continued his studies with liis father after leaving college. He subsequently became an executive with the Thomas A. Edison Company. During the World War he served in the 306th Battalion Tank Corps.

He made a study of tank warfare and urged the abolition of the gigantic, cumbersome tanks that appeared in the early phases of the war and their substitution by the fast, light, whippet tanks that have since taken their place in the fighting units of most nations. Received an Income Under the terms of the will of his father, the bulk of the inventor's estate was left to Mr. Edison's two younger half -brothers. He was at first inclined to contest the will but eventually dropped the idea. It is understood he received an income of about $50,000 yearly from a trust fund.

Surviving are widow, his stepmother, his sister, Mrs. Marion Oser: a half Mrs. John Eyre Sloane. and two half-brothers. Charles and Theodore Edison.

Morris Kimmel Morris Kimmel, 54. of 2002 E. 2d died of a heart attack last night in his home. He was born in Austria and had been a resident of Brooklyn for 40 years. A furrier by trade.

Mr. Kimmel was a member of many Jewish organizations and active in philanthropic work. He was also a member of Gothic Lodge, F. A. and the Jewish Home for Incurables.

Funeral services were held today in the home with interment following in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Surviving are sons. Manny and Harold. and two daughters, Ger- trude and Ethel. Willoughby L.

Webb West Tisbury, Aug. 11 (P)- Funeral services were held here today for Willoughby Lane Webb. 65, former New York lawyer, and for years one of the most prominent businessmen in Dukes County. Webb, who died yesterday, was manager of the Seven Gates Farm Corporation, which he organized in 1922. A native of Washington, D.

Seifried Dies: Retired Patrolman Succeeded His Father as Coney Island. Builder Before Joining Force Retired Patrolman August Charles Seifried, who succeeded his father in the building business in Coney Island before joining the force, died suddenly Monday in Kings County Hospital. Born in Germany 57 years ago, he was brought to Brooklyn when a child of 2. His father, Frederick constructed Feltman's Restaurant and other buildings at Coney Island. Mr.

Seifried served for 17 years on the force. He was retired for disability about 13 years ago. The Police Department will be in charge of the funeral at his home, 2015 E. 64th tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be in Evergreens Cemetery.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie Seifried, three daughters, Charlotte, Mrs. Walter Ehrenberg and Mrs. Fred Bornemann; a sister, Mrs. Thompson, and two brothers.

Frederick Strauss, Financier, Federal Aide, on 72d Birthday Rose From Runner to Senior PartnershipAided in Reorganization of B. M. T. Frederick Strauss, banker, who often expressed the wish to die in harness, had that desire fulfilled today, on his 72d birthday. He succumbed to a heart attack at the Harkness Pavilion of the two days afo after complaining Medical Center where he had not feeling well.

Mr. Strauss was the senior partner of J. W. Seligman Co He had started work for the firm as a runner 52 years ago. He was born in New York City, the son of Philip and Anna Strauss and was graduated from C.

C. N. Y. in the Class of 1884. Mr.

Strauss had lacked sufficient funds to continue his college work and had to withdraw temporarily, but he returned in time to be graduated with his class and receiver the Phi Beta Kappa key. Made Rapid Strides serving as a runner for the banking firm, Mr. Strauss became in succession a junior clerk, head of department and in 1901 was elected a partner. In 1910 and 1911 he served as a member and vice chairman of the Railroad Securities Commission. named by President Taft with Arthur T.

Hadley as chairman. The recommendations of the group were given to Congress and urged legislation for governmental supervision of railroads. During the war he was vice chairman of the Capital Issues Dr. Shipley Gets All Wife's Estate Dr. Alfred E.

Shipley of 665 St. Marks Deputy Commissioner of Hospitals and prominent Brooklyn physician, was named sole heir to an estate of not more than $5,000 left by his wife, Jennie Mapes Shipley, according to a petition for probate filed today with Surrogate George A. Wingate. Mrs. Shipley, who was active in the borough's communal life, died at her residence July 29.

Mrs. Kate Freitas of 206 E. 35th St was named sole heir to an estate of 000 personal property and $1.000 real property, left by her husband. George, died July 28 in Swedish Hospital. Three relatives share In the will of Mary Clarke of 87 Weirtield St.

Peter Offerman Merrick, Aug. 11-Mrs. Ella Offerman, 59, a native of Merrick and a resident here many years, died yesterday after a long illness in a hospital at Amityville. She resided on Brooklyn Ave. Mrs.

Offerman was active in church and fraternal atfairs, having been a member of the auxiliary of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, president of the Helping Hand Sewin: Circle of the church, a member Rebecca lodge. Freeport; Iroquois circle, Freeport. and was a charter member of the auxiliary to ok Ladder Company 1 of Merrick. She leaves her husband, Peter Henry Offerman, and three brothers, Eugene and John Carpenter of Merrick, and George Carpenter of Union, N. J.

A. Murphy, U.S. Secret Service Flatbush Man Assigned to the Summer Home of Son of the President Special to The Eagle Rye, N. Aug. 11-Secret Service officials here today were preparing to send the body of Agent M.

A. Murphy to his home at 1437 80th Brooklyn. He was fatally stricken yesterday while on assignment at the Summer home of James Roosevelt, son of the President. Mr. Murphy, who was 40, joined the department about a year and a half ago.

Although for the last six months he had had this special assignment, formerly he was active in uncovering counterfeiters working out of New York headquarters. most of his work had been in the Long Island section. Born in Greenpoint Before entering the Secret Service Mr. Murphy, who was born in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, had been a salesman for a casket comHe became interested in the service, however, and took a competitive examination leading to his appointment. Mr.

Murphy had lived for about 10 years in the Flatbush section with his wife and two small children. He was an usher of the printers' mass in St. Andrew's R. C. Church, being a close personal friend of the Rev.

Father Cashin, rector. Wounded in World War Mr. Murphy served overseas with the 27th Division and was wounded in the famous Hindenburg line assault. He was a member of Brooklyn Lodge of Elks and the Flatbush Democratic Club. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society of the R.

C. Church of the Holy Cross, Church and Rogers as well as being an active member of the church. A requiem mass will be celebrated ata the church on Monday morning, with interment following in Holy Cross Cemetery. Surviving, in addition to his widow Mrs. Mary Dacres Murphy, are a son.

Van Derwerken died several years ago, his widow again took charge. She remained in control until her son. Stanley took it over. At his death, his widow took charge until about a year ago. Mrs.

Vanderwerken was an active worker in St. Mark's P. E. Church when it was in the old Williamsburg section. After she moved to Queens Village she became affiliated with St.

Joseph's Church. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon in the Van Derwerken Chapel, 69 Herkimer St. The Rev. Dr. Arthur L.

Charles, rector of St. Mark's, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sisters, Anna and Catherine V. Longworth.
