Broughton of 304 Lewis Brooklyn, died here yesterday at the Summer home of her sisters. the Misses Eva and Ethel Averell, after an illness of several months. Mrs. Broughton. a daughter of George W.

Averell, pioneer in the color printing business, was educated at Packer Institute in Brooklyn. She was active in the Monday Culture and Charity Club and in the Writers' Club of which her husband 1S president. Surviving are her husband, two sons. Averell Broughton and Schuyler Broughton: her sisters and two brothers, Dr. George W.

Mr. Keller had been a resident of Brooklyn tor about 60 years. He retired from active business as a master plumber five years ago. Mr. Keller was a member of the 17th A.

Anna M. Meyer. Richard Hughes, Navy Commodore Commodore Richard M. Hughes, retired, died vesterday in Brooklyn Naval Hospital. He was born in Carbondale, Jan 28.

1859 He appointed the Naval Academy 1874 and was graduated with the class of 1878. Commodore Hughes was in charge of the hydrographic office in Philadelphia from 1892 to 1895 and later WAS placed in command of the U. S. S. Philadelphia.

He was retired with the rank of commodore June :20, 1912. He is survived by two brothers. Edward H. of 65 W. 69th St.

Manhattan. with whom he lived, and John C. of West Pittson. Pa. and nieces.

Mr. Atwood in 1929 gave a lecture on gas company work to students Rutgers University and explained the growth of his company. Mr.

Atwood for many vears was active in the Empire State Gas and Electric Association and the American Gas Association. He was also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Private funeral services will be conducted in his home. Surviving 15 his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Eddy Atwood.

J. Tvler. Amitwille Civil War Veteran Amityville. Aug. 23 -John Tyler the last Civil War veteran in Amityville, died Saturday in Bruns- wick Hospital, following a two- week illness.

Tyler, who was in his 92d year, led every Memorial Dav parade during the past ten or more rears. Tyler born on Aug. 14, 1847. on Gardiner's Island son of William and Harriet Tyler. At the opening of the Civil War he enlisted as a member of Company K.

10th Negro Regiment the U. S. Infantry. In the last years few Tvier had lived alone on Harrison Avenue. The Civil War veteran had served as a coachman for a phyBrooklyn sician for 30 vears and was retired.

Halpin Dies: Bull Moose Chief Sponsored Bill to Permit Consolidation of CityServices Wednesday William Halpin, chairman of the New York County Republican Committee from 1903 to 1905, and a leader of the Bull Moose campaign in New York County. died yesterday afternoon at his home. 677 Macon St. He would have been 72 years old today. Mr.

Halpin was a power in the State and city Republican organization about the turn of the century. He was a close aide of Gov. Benjamin B. Odell Mr. Halpin was leader of the old 9tn and 7th Assembly Districts in Manhattan for almost 25 vears.

He gave up the post only when he bolted to the Bull Moose party in 1912. Mr. Halpin, born. in Manhattan. became active in Republican politics before he was able to vote.

At one time he was secretary to Frederick S. Gibbs, long a power in the State Republican organization. He was elected Assemblyman in 1894. During his one term he sponsored the consolidation bill which permitted the five counties to unite into Greater New York City. He then served for several vears as a State mortgage tax appraiser.

In the regime of Governor Odell Mr. Halpin had the final sav on all legislation affecting New York City during Mr. Odell's absence. After 1905, however. Mr.

Odell slipped as a Republican power and Mr. Halpin was removed from the county leadership. He clung to his district leadership post, however. and quashed charges that he was in alliance with Tammany. In 1909 he was appointed Deputy Register.

Surviving are his widow. Emma Klauser Halpin; two sisters, Mary E. and Catherine T. Halpin, and a brother. James F.

Halpin. Solemn requiem mass will be held Wednesday at 10 am. at the R. C. Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

Quimby Rites Held In Merrick Home Merrick. Aug. 23 Edwin Quimby. a well-known former Brooklynite who died at his home 101 Gregory here on Friday. was buried today in Cypress Hills Cemetery.

He was 81 and had been ill for some time. Funeral services were conducted last night in the home by the Rev. H. Scott, rector of the Church of the Transfiguration a 1 Freeport. Mr.

Quimby until his retirement. four years ago, headed the stove manufacturing firm of D. S. Quimby Son, Henry and Poplar Sts. His wife, Josephine Davis Quimby, who died 12 years ago, was the daughter of a well-known Brooklyn carriage manufacturer.

He is survied by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Parrett and Mrs. Fanny Allen of Merrick; a son. Arthur, of Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren and 10 -grandchildren. T.

Clarke Services Set for Thursday The body of Thomas Clarke. recently of 16 Cherry Flushing. who died suddenly Saturday at Evanston, Ill, is expected to arrive tomorro: at the rectory of Michael's Church, Flushing, which his brother, Mons. John J. Clarke, is rector.

Mr. Clarke was 60 and was retired city engineer. He was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Stanton Clarke. Requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
