SO Here Move to Balk Union Chiefs Seek Cessation of All Jobs Pending Probe of Alleged Corruption The Associated Builders of Kings County as a group was ready today to halt as many 1 building jobs as possible as the first definite move in a war against corrupt union officials, outside racketeering and price-fixing organizations within the industry. Calling for a cessation of all jobs in the borough pending investigations to be made either by representatives of Governor Lehman, Attorney General Bennett or District Attorney Geoghan, about 75 of 175 members of the organization were told last night by T.

Harry Glick, vice president and presiding officer, that "either we halt building operations until we disrupt these guerilla-like groups or we go into bankruptcy." association met at Court Many. to Halt Jobs Nineteen of the members who are now concerned with jobs last night pledged themselves to terminate operations today and others present pledged to do likewise as soon as any contracts for work are offered. Many builders in the group represented by proxies intend to follow the same policy. "Price-fixing setups in practically every trade of the building industry, such as plastering, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, steam heating and brocklaying, have been combining against the interests of the' builders and unreasonable demands as to hours and increases are being made because of an upturn in real estate," Mr. Glick out.

cost of building is rapidly becoming prohibitive," contended the presiding officer, "and our industry is being destroyed by vultures who can and must be broken up with some effort on our part. The contractors and certain union officials who are engineering these price-fixing setups are killing the goose that lays the golden Against 'Racketeering' Mr. Glick contended that the builders are not against union labor but against "racketeering." Organized labor, he added, is as suspicious of the "racketeering" as we are afraid of "But if necessary," he said, "decent union workers will be thrown out on the street until these conditions are corrected." The racketeering element was described as "those working between the union and the contractor." The price-fixing organizations were termed "those groups that get together to monopolize jobs and to stifle the building industry if they cannot force builders and contractors to accept their prohibitive Committees were to be appointred today to interview District Attorney Geoghan in order to strike back at the corrupt sources. Abraham Rockmore, counsel for the builders' unit, pointed out last night that a letter has already been mailed to Governor Lehman asking him to appoint a commissioner to investigate the situation with powers of subpena. 'Stifles Competition' Bernard Stolzenberg, just resigned as chairman of the board of directors and vice president of the Associated Builders of Kings County, denounced the "shakedown of builders" and contended that jobs are running away with the costs.

Even the retailer buys much cheaper than the builder these days, for there is no competition, By continuing to we are competing only with ourselves." The cost of building today, Mr. Stolzenberg, is at least 25 to 30 percent more than it was a year ago in Kings County, "And, when you complete a structure," he added, "the market is so high you can't sell and expect to make 8 profit. We must wipe out the evil of the go-between operating between the unions and the contractors. Mr. Stolzenberg also pointed out that "today the situation has become so tense the contractors are actually afraid to approach the wouilders; in fact," said he, "they dodge them for fear that the true story will have to be explained.

All forms of sincerity of dealing have vanished from the picture. This cut-throat band specializing in monopolies, not operating as a link, has succeeded in revolutionizing the building industry to suit itself. It has actually taken our livelihood from us. We can't stand by idly any longer." 'Means Another Slump' Abraham Fox, chairman of the erlevance committee, contended, "We're through feeding these sinister figures who seek to lower the building industry to what it was during the depression. If permitted to exist, these guerilla groups will not only drive all of us out of business but help to bring on another slump to be felt not only here but elsewhere as well." Those builders, and they were few, in the room who have already begun foundation work on their projects intend to complete that much of the job and order a suspension of activities immediately afterward.

"We are ready." concluded Mr. Glick, "to fight this matter in the courts of law. We want the public to know what is going on-what is behind this greedy practice that has arisen." Mr. Glick was presiding in' place srael Orlian, who is vacationing. OYD BENNETT NIGHT Floyd Bennett Unit, can Legion Auxiliary, will hold Bennett night tomorrow at the Brooklyn Naval Hos8 o'clock.
