NEW YORK, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1935 Movie FirsUNighters See 'The Dark Angel' A New- Bill at the Strand 8 In Russian Film A Booth Tarkington Heroine Picture Parade The Screen Bf MJRTIN D1CKSTEIX By JOHN REDDINGTON 7 1 Three of a Kind Oberon, March and Marshall Equal a Full House for 'The Dark Angel' at the Rivoli The screen become very tender this week tt the Rlvoll, where "The Dark Angel" had its premiere last night. Using the Indulgent "tender" rather than the disparaging "sentimental" or "melodramatic" indicates that this reviewer found more to admire than to scorn In "The Dark Angel," and it is merely redundant to add that he did. Blessed by a first-rate Job' of direction by Sidney Franklin, and three equally Impressive acting performances by Merle Oberon, Fredrlc March and Herbert Marshall, Ouy Bolton's little play enters upon a new life on the screen one that is likely to be longer than It enjoyed in its original form. Or perhaps the Rivoli Theater would prefer that the credit for Mervyn Le Roy to Direct 'Anthony Adverse' Saturday Midnight Shows Announced for Loew's Met.

Other Movie Items Mervyn LeRoy, Warner Brothers' ace megaphonist, whose produc--tioni this year include "Oil for the Lamps of China" and "Page Miss Glory," yesterday was assigned to direct the screen version of "Anthony Adverse." Le Roy will begin work on the picturization of the Hervey Allen novel as soon as he completes work on "I Found Stella Parrish," which is currently in work with Kay Francis in the leading role. The Warners tell us that the 60 principal characters in "Anthony Advene" will be cast only after an exhaustive series of screen tests have been completed. The stage policy at the Fox during the coming Fall and Winter will include a permanent line of precision dancers, a stage orchestra under the direction of Ben Nelson and outstanding personalities of the entertainment world. For the week beginning tomorrow the Fox's stage revue will feature the Kits Brothers, formerly of Earl Carroll's Oeorglo Tapps, Billy Keaton, the Eight Commanders, the Dave Bines Girls and Ben Nelson and his orchestra. The screen feature will be "She Gets Her Man," with Zasu Pitts and Hugh O'Oonnell. However, as the one is merely a pen name for the other which for which, I won't attempt to say it probably doesn't matter very much. As unreeled last night, "The Dark Angel" on the screen differs little from Its stage predecessor. The story is still that of the two cousins, Alan and Gerald, who grow to manhood in the same English household, both in love with Kitty of the neighboring family.
