The dally communiques have been telling you what haa been happening at the hearings, but no one has really done justice to the members of the sub-committee. So here's the lineup, and remember you can't tell the players without a "pogrom." Senator 0. Worth Clark: This Idaho Isolationist is best described the Ralph Bellamy of the Senate.

He is the chairman of the sub-committee and his abysmal Ignorance of the movies has been giving the Washington scribblers more laughs since the days of Zion-check. He admitted, for instance, that he has seen but two talking pictures in his life, and the last one he saw was six years ago. When Darryl Zanuck was on the Stand discussing a picture he made called "Four Sons," Clark asked him Whether "Eugenie Leontovltch" was a German name. Zanuck said that it was obviously a Russian name, to which Clark floored the boys with this retort: "But I thought you said this picture was about a German family. How could one of the char-caters be named 'Leontovltch'?" It then took two or three minutes to convince Clark that Eugenie Leontovltch was actually the name cf the actress who played the role and not the name of the character.

When he went into the same sort of questioning about the name "Don Ameche" the audience laughed so hard and so long that Clark realized he was off on the wrong track again and changed the subject. Senator Cbarlea W. Tobey: Senator Tobey is from New Hampshire and is the only member of the committee whose bitterness raised the blood pressure of both witnesses and spectators. His inane baiting of Kick Schenk made even his fellow Isolationists on the sub-committee uncomfortable. If you cast Ralph Bellamy as Clark in this farce, then you must cast either Peter Lorre or Bela Lugosi as Tobey.

He looks like Slim Summerville, but he acts like either of the first pair. Senator Wylin Brooks: "Curley," as he prefers to be known, is from Illinois and he is the Harpo Marx of the sub-committee. He has no lines to read, but he must be there for some reason. We're still trying to find out why. Curley is an Isolationist, too, behind the scenes.

He is neither Isolationist nor Interventionist in public, because he is running for re-election in November, and for the past two months he has been setting a new indoor and outdoor record for staying "on the fence." His most inflammatory statement in that time was to the effect that fresh eggs are better than stale eggs. Senator Bennett Champ Clark: This Missourian has not attend- i ed any of the hearings for the past eight days. We have only a faint Idea of what he looks like and less of what he acts like. His wife, though, is one of the leading lights I Where to Dine SJn GRANADA HOTEL MICHEL'S K-TJ-5? r-'lathti'h Av. ftho.
