I Charles Herbert Jones, 63; Member of Old L. I. Family Funeral services for Charles Herbert Jones of 1165 5th Manhattan, and Jones Manor, Cold Spring Harbor, member of the old Long Island family which once owned the property now known as Jones Beach will be held at St. John's Church, Cold Spring Harbor, at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Mr. Jones died Thursday in Doctors Hospital at 63. Mr. Jones, a descendant of Maj. Thomas Jones, who came to Amer-, ica from Ireland in 1696 and received a royal grant of land which extended from Long Island Sound to the ocean on the other side of the island and included Manor and Jones Beach, was born in 1 Cold Spring Harbor, William Mackie, Golf Professional Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Port Washington, April 19-William L.

Mackie, 64, golf professional for 20 years on the private links of Hempstead House, the estate of the late Daniel Guggenheim et Sands Point, died yesterday in the Nassau Hospital. A native of Scotland, Mr. Mackie was first employed by Mr. Guggenheim as his personal instructor at the time when he had the private course laid out on his estate. Until his death, Mr.

Guggenheim played a game of golf with Mr. Mackie almost daily, He is survived by his widow, two daughters, a son and three brothers. Draft of Executives Asked in Congress Washington, April 19 (INS)Congress soon will be asked for legislation to register and draft usiness executives for Government service, sponsors of the move disclosed today. Representative Lydon Johnson Texas), a member of the House Military Affairs Committee, said he would introduce such a bill, probably next week. He declared the measure "will cut out this dollara stuff and make up deficiencies in managerial ability." As the proposed legislation is now worked out, it would require business men more than 35 years oldthose who are not registered under the draft-to sign up.

PARKWAY PROMOTER Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Clearwater, April 19-Dean Alvord, well-known real estate operator and one of the original motors of the Long Island Motor Parkway when it was planned as a roadway for the early Vanderbilt Cup automobile races, died yesterday in a Tampa hospital. He was 84. Born in Syracuse, N. Mr. Alvord had come to Clearwater in 1913, intending to retire but entered the real estate business here and continued in it until his death.

He was the developer of Eagle's Nest, a Peter J. Knecht, Retired Executive Funeral services for Peter J. Knecht, retired traffic manager of the Wayne County Produce Company of Brooklyn, who died on Thursday night at his home, 88-37 183d Hollis, will be held at the Fairchild Chapel, 89-31 164th Jamaica, at 8 p.m, tomorrow. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Knecht came to Brooklyn at the age of eight He had been a resident of the borough until 15: years ago when he moved to Queens.

He retired from business a year and a half ago after 35 years of service with the produce company. He was an honorary life member of Sewanhaka Lodge, 678, F. A. M. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs.

Marjorie Erb and Mrs. Anna Hoffstadt; a son, Charles Knecht; sister, Mrs. Kathleen Trott, and brother, Edward F. Knecht. Daniel R.

Williams, Ex-Eagle Printer Rome, N. April 19 (U.P.)-Dandel R. Williams, 84, a printer 1 with the Brooklyn Eagle 17 years until his retirement in 1935, died day at his home. A native of Rome, Mr. Williams had worked as a printer here for many years before joining the composing room staff of the Brooklyn Eagle.

Hinch, Retired Policeman Awarded Medal of Valor For Rescue of Youth James Hinch, 73-year-old retired patrolman and a resident of Brooklyn for many years, died on Thursday at his home, 745 Jefferson Ave. Mr. Hinch who retired from the New York Police Department in 1932 after 30 years of service was a member of the department's honor legion, having received the medal of valor for his rescue of a drowning boy from the East River some years ago.

Antonescu Bares New Rebel Fioi Budapest, April 19 (INS) -Rumania's internal political situation once more has become critical, according to reports received in Budapest today.

Premier Gen. Ion Antonescu, who a few months ago won out over a bloody Iron Guardist uprising, issued a manifesto announcing that a new terrorist plot against his regime has been brought to light. The manifesto threatened "merciless extermination of all plotters, including those of the highest social standing." Rumanian police were reported carrying out mass arrests throughRumania. out. was believed in Budapest that the Germans are rapidly losing confidence in Antonescu, especially since Rumanian newspapers in Bucharest have openly criticized the Axis decisions reached at Vienna last September.

Heywood Broun Estate Appraised at $1,685 Stamford, April 19 (U.P)The estate of Heywood Broun, newspaper columnist who died Dec. 17, 1939, was valued today at $1,685, exclusive of insurance left directly to his widow, Mrs. Connie Fruscella Broun, and his son, Heywood Hale Broun. 4 SHIPS IN CONVOY CLAIMED BY R. A. F. London. April 19 (UP)-Royal Air Force planes attacked two enemy convoys in the North Sea vesterday damaged four merchant ships and escorting war vessels so seriously that their loss is certain, the Air Ministry said today.

Indicatin gthe magnitude of these North Sea operations, the Air Ministry said eight British planes were lost. (In Berlin the official news agency said British planes yesterday attempted to attack German light naval forces in the North Sea. The agency said the German vessels avoided the bombs and shot down three planes.) Bohmke, Active in Club Life Funeral services for Mrs. May E. Bohmke, a life long resident of Brooklyn, who died on Friday at her home 1771 E. 38th St. at the age of 60, will be held tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.

Young Would-Be Suicide Sentenced for Robbery Robert Hoage, 17, of 97-28 Waltham Jamaica who on Feb. 20, last, twice attempted suicide by hanging himself in his cell in the Queens County Jail, according to jail authorities, yesterday was sentenced by County Judge Thomas Downs in Long Island City to serve from three to six years in Sing Sing prison. Hoage and Homer Jackson, 26, 8 Negro, of 108-40 164th Place, Jamaica, both pleaded guilty on March 27, last, to second degree robbery in connection with the holdup of a South Ozone Park gasoline station on Jan. 16, last, Jackson was sentenced to serve from five to ten years in Sing Sing Prison. Hoage, after his alleged suicide attempts, was sent to Bellevue Hospital for observation but later was returned to jail as sane.

Jones Jones and includes among his ancestors both Philip Livingston, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Lion Gardiner, who settled on Gardiner Island in 1639.

He was educated at Yale University and following completion of his studies took up the management of the large properties owned by his family. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna Livingston Short Jones; three daughters, Mrs. John B. Watkins and the Misses Elizabeth Hannah and Mary Gardiner Jones; a sister, Miss Louise E.

Elizabeth M. Smith, a lifelong resident of Patchogue and widow of Supreme Court Justice Wilmot M. Smith, died yesterday in Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville. She was 76. A native of Patchogue, Mrs.

Smith was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred C. Mott. She was for many years active in social and civic work here and was the founder and first president of the Patchogue Sorosis.

She also organized the movement that led to the establishment of the Patchogue Public Library. Surviving are a son, Wilmot M. Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Pansy Lee and Mrs. Elsie Wiley, and a sister, Mrs.
