For six out of eight years Chevrolet leads the indsutry.

Fo rthe first time in the history of the automobile industry, a manufacturer losing leadership during the first six months regains that leadership during the last six months. As 65 percent of the volume is obtained during the f'rst six months and only 35 percent obtained during the last six months, this makes the Chevrolet dealer's selling record a notable achievement. i The Polk registrations for 'the complete year of 1934 gave these figures: Cars Chevrolet was 534,906, Car No. 2 was 530.628 and Car No. 3 was 302,557.

Windshield Glare Killed by Pontiac Engineers of the Pontiac Motor Company have eliminated glare in the design of the sloping windshield of the 1935 Pontiac sixes and eights.

Every trace of glare has been cut out that is caused by sunlight or other bright lights that might reflect from some part of the car or from other stationary or moving objects through windshields. Indirect glare through the rear window from headlights coming up behind is killed. Heretofore, this of windshield has been a feature of custom designed bodies only. But Pontiac has introduced it for the first time in 1935 as a feature of a low priced automobile. REAL ESTATE FPU SALE Real Estate for Exchange 88 (i-ROOM modern Colonial.

This lesson was taught yesterday by Justice Albert Conway in Supreme Court to Francis J.

Florence 30, of 1806 Caton Ave. Justice Conway, in matrimonial branch of the court, gave the) judicial boot to Francis' suit for annulment of his marriage to Gloria Edna Bliss Blume Florence of 225 Parkside Ave. Francis sued for annulment on the ground that when he married, Gloria in Greenwich, July 16, 1926, she had a husband, Milton J. Blume, living and not divorced, The evidence in his suit for annulment indicated that he went along with Gloria with his fingers crossed, thinking he had an ace in the hole because she had another husband living. Court Trumps His Ace' He had a disagreement with Gloria and he trotted out his "ace." But Justice Conway pointed out that he had waited too long and that the law had outplayed his ace.

And so Justice Conway dismissed the annulment suit, thereby leaving Francis with a wife on his hands that apparently he no longer desires, besides two children, a boy and a girl, 8 and 4, respectively. Florence told Justice Conway that when he married Gloria he did not know she had a husband living, but admitted on cross-examination that she did say she did not know where he was. About four years ago, when they were living at 682 Ocean Blume and another man came to their place. They tried to break in at midnight. Florence beat up both of them and Blume announced himself as Gloria's husband.

Waited Too Long Blue sued for a divorce in New York Supreme Court and got it. But Florence continued to live with Gloria after that for a long time. And the second child was born to them, more than a year later. When Florence pressed his annulment suit before Justice Conway he said he had continued to live with her even alter he found out all about Blume and had gone so far as to testify in Blume's divorce suit. He testified that when Blume and the other man left the nlace with their hlnolr eyes and bruised bodies, Gloria con-j fessed that Blume was her husband.

Justice Conway ruled that the de-(lay of four and a half years in bringing the annulment suit meant the establishment of a common law marriage. Chrysler Makes Quiet Gear Shift Chrysler has developed a new syncro-silent transmission with quiet helical gears throughout. The advantage of this transmission are very pronounced in that it eliminates gear clashing by bringing the gears to the same rotating speed before the shift is made and allows quick, smooth shifting from low to second and from second to high, or vice-versa, at all driving speeds. Driving through traffic or through mountainous country is easier because the downard shift from high to second can be made smoothly, gently and silently.

This remarkable ease of control is made possible by designing the transmission so that, in addition to the customary constant meshing of the gears, there is a synchronizer used between high and second gears that equalizes the speed of each gear before they are engaged. Th synchronizing device consists of a hub and ring. Teeth on the inside of the ring mesh with teeth on the outside of the hub at all times. When a shift made to either high or second, the swnchro-nizing device moves as a unit toward the gear to be engaged. The speed of the hub is synchronized or made uniform with the speed of the gear by means of a conical clutch.

The internal gear or ring ot fhe synchronizing unti is then released from its centrally located position onthe hub and the teeth engage in the teeth of the high or second speed gear. As the two are rotating at the same speed, the meshing of these gears if effected without clashing of teeth. Co -operation Is Praised by Nasli "The motorcar industryha; put to good use the idea of close cooperation between government and industry for the common good, and I believe that this spirit of co-operation is more responsible for the automobile industry's early return to more prosperous times than any other one thing," says C. W. Nash, chairman of the board of the Nash Motors Company.

"The industry's leaders have had the intelligence and common sense to face and solve the serious problems that have arisen without laying down a barrage of arguments aimed to advance personal causes. Over a period of years this willingness to place personal issues behind common issues and pull together has saved manufacturers many headaches, much money and has been responsible to a great degree in placing the industry in its present enviable position. "It should be quite easy for the public to understand that the one fundamental thing that has been lacking during this depression has been confidence. I am one who believes that public confidence is being restored. I say this because my own confidence is being restored by what I see and hear going on around me, and I have always figured that what happens to nie must happen to a lot of other people.

"It is common knowledge that the automobile industry was the first large business to emerge from the doldrums of the depression. It nas shown the way to beter times and its courageous refusal to recognize obstacles should prove an inspiration to the businessmen of the nation." All-Time Mark Is Set by Oldsmobile More automobiles were built and shipped last month than In any other January in the history of the company, exceeding January production of a year ago four times over, according to a statement issued by D. W. Ralston, vice president and general sales manager. "In January this year we built more cars than we did in the first two months 0 1934 combined," he said.

"And by the end of February our production will be three and one-half times that of the same period last year. "One of the evidences of growing Oldsmobile popularity is a report from the 21 largest automobile shows already completed. Retail sales of Oldsmobiles at these shows have increased 165 percent over sales in the same show a year ago," 1 tile bath, with entrance off master bed- mom, Blas.s-inclosed booth shower, finished basement, ultra modern narae; ucnuine- sacrifice: $1,000 cash. New Packard 120 Here This Week Packard's new 120 model will be seen for the first time locally since the Brooklyn Auto Show when it goes on display tomorrow at the Packard showrooms at Atlantic and Classon Aves. There are fewer than 20 of these new lower-priced Packards In the entire country, Louis La Brasche, manager ol Packard-Brooklyn, explains. This car will be here only until Saturday but demonstrators and showroom display cars for permanent use are expected in a week or two.

Contrary to rumors, the newcomer is not a small car. The two- jassenger sport coupe model which will be displayed here has a 110-horsepower straight eight motor, 120-inch wheelbase (from which it gets its name), weighs 3,585 pounds unloaded and was mistaken for the high-priced Packards by nearly all those who saw it at the New York and Brooklyn auto shows. The car uses only 25 percent of its available power at 50 miles an hour, and at 80 m.p.h. there is still 31 percent of the total horsepower left in reserve for acceleration and greater speed, if necessary. The use of live rubber is one of the many low-cost service features built into the car, for it reduces the need of lubrieation to a minimum.

Terraplane Tops Stoppage Marks Insurance and police officers of Detroit recently conducted a brake test on a 1935 Terraplane sedan. Two sets of tests were made, the first being at speeds of 20, 40 and 50 miles an hour, the driver applying his brakes as he crossed a given line, at which time he was given a signal. The second series was made by having the Terraplane run parallel to the police test car, which is equipped with a gun giving a stop signal. Stops with the latter equipment include both the braking effort and the reaction time of the driver. At speeds of 40 uid 50 miles an hour the Terraplane stopped in nearly half the distance called for by the Police Department, which uses figures resulting from a large number of tests made by a brake company.

For example, at 50 miles an hour, the Police Department states, that with brakes In excellent condition the car should be able to stop in 111 feet. The Terraplane at 50 miles stopped in 65 feet. While tabulations of the department at 40 miles call for 71 feet, the Terraplane stopped in 40 feet inch. A 20 miles, as against the police requirements of 18 feet, the Terraplane stopped In 10 feet 8 inches, Police officers said that the deceleration of the Terraplane as measured on their Instruments equalled 44 feet a second, the best reading they have ever obtained. So far as known, says the Hudson Company, the stopping distance recorded for the Terraplane on this police test are unprecedented.

The tests were made on a modern concrete road. The weather was clear and cold, with a temperature just above zero,.
