Quite a few hake and haddock are being taken daily from all of the Sheepshead boats, and Capt. Bill Hofmanri of the Sea Horse of Freeport, says that all his passengers have been going home loaded with fish.

Going down to the Bay we run into a typical representa tive of the 'silent That is, the pier fisherman. Got talking to him and he says it's this way: I not too young, am in only moderate circumstances, and can't afford to go on the boats. Anyway, I don't like them be cause they go out and come in at regular hours. My enjoyment is to go when I please, wherever I please, and go home when I want to and I generally get some fish." All this from Markin Sozewski of 295 Throop a rugged old individualist of about 65 to 70 years of age. As some philosopher has said.

It's all in the point of view. Also met Squad Commander Tom Curley of the N.Y. Police Department. We know that he is a star swimmer but we're afraid he's a bum fisherman. Reason he say's that on his last trip he got only a few mackerel.

The Flatlands Fishing Club will install their 1950 officers at their 10th annual dinner at the Civit Club in Gerrittsen Beach on Jan. 11. They are Charles Lammert, president; Ed Camels and Tage Jonsen, vice presidents and Fred Polos, treasurer. We wish them all good luck and good fishing for the coming year. tChapnra 135 3la54 Wsndt Class leaeue.

PRATT Saturday and Sunday, with comparatively mild and clear weather, turned out to be regu lar fishermen's perfect days. Not only did the anglers turn out in good numbers, but the fish were also accommodating and took about every kind of bait offered, whether at the Cholera Banks, 17 Fathoms, Middle Grounds or the Scallop Ridge and even at Scotland Light. The catch was mostly cod, running from eight pounds up to a couple that hit 40 pounds. The average, however, ran mostly school fish of 8 to 14 pounds apiece. Captain Toots of the Amber- jack II, had a pool fish of 26 pounds and Phil of the White-stone showed us a baby of 35 pounds.

Probably the haul of Capt. Frank Knuth of the Flying II was one of the best in the Bay on Saturday, with the Dorothy the Comanche II and the Sea Pigeon II also loaded down with fish. Jack Michael of the America tells us that his night fishing trips are resulting in bags and basketsful of whiting every night. These fish must almost cover the world, as we remember that in one of Alexandre Mikan Top Scorer In Court Circuit Mighty George Mikan, chief stoker of the Minneapolis Lakers, was running away with scoring honors today in the National Basketball Association1 point derby. i With 23 games under his; belt, Mikan led the loop in total! points scored 651 as well as average points per game, which; now stands at 28.3.

Second in; both departments was Alex, Groza of Indianapolis, who nasi wished in 632 points for 24.3.; Groza was the early season i leafier but fell behind last week.i However, the sharpest eye in the circuit belonged to Dick1 Mehen of Waterloo, who had caged 134 field goals out of 2SK attempts for a ringing average. Groza was tied with Mikan in this bracket with .418. Bob Brown of Denver is the bad boy of the association, having committed 118 personal fouls. The top 10 scorers: Ave Per TO FT TP tim neorge Mikan. But the California State Commission said a State law prohibited any fight in which no decision was rendered. The exact status of the fight never was cleared because Louis ended the squabble bv scoring a fifth-round knockout the first time young Hoosman had ever lost on a K.

O. A crowd of 9,000 fans jammed the Oakland Auditorium, pay ing 19,805 for the privilege of watching Louis in action. A throng of 500 to 1,000 fans was turned awav. Doug Bentley Bids For Scoring Lead Montreal, Dec. 20 (U.R) Scrappy little Doug Bentley, ace play-maker of the Chicago Black Hawk6, made a serious bid today for the National Hockey League scoring leadership which has been held by Ted Lindsay of Detroit for the past six weeks.

Bentley, veteran Hawk center who prefers to set his mates up with scoring chances rather than hug the glory for himself, came with a rush during the past week and his total of 21 assists and sev en goals put him into second place, only two points behind the fading Lindsay. Bentley picked up five points during the week, all on assists. Maurice (the Rocket) Richard of Montreal also projected himself into the race wtith a five-point pickup and is only three points away from Lindsay with However, Richaixl relies mainly on his own scoring power and leads the circuit in goals with 22, a seven-point bulge on Lindsay who is second in that department. Syd Abel, Lindsay's line buddy at Detroit, dropped from second to fourth place with a total of 28, followed by Bill Mosienko of Chicago and Johnny Pierson of Boston, who are tiad for fifth with 20 points. Bill Durnan, goal-tender par excellence of Montreal, contin- 42'ued to rank top man in the nets WiUli till dVClBftr ui i.iiu fiwai.i fallowed while Harry Lumfley of Detroit trailed with 2.38.
