Monroe Brown, 35, of 758 Park Ave. was held on a burglary charge in Felony Court yesterday, on complaint of Edward McGrath, 56, attendant at Sea View Hospital, Staten Island. McGrath said that Brown and another man attacked him outside a bar and grill at Myrtle Ave. and Union Lane early yesterday and robbed him of $65 cash and a $17 wristwatch. OF Members will please assemble on Wednesday, Decern New Quakes Rock Area Near Tokyo, 8 Dead, 50 Hurt Tokyo, Dec. 27 CU.R) Three new earthquakes shook the area north of Tokyo today In the wake of heavy shocks that killed eight persons, injured 50 and damaged 2,500 houses yesterday. Although the shocks were felt In Tokyo, none was strong enough to cause any damage in the Japanese capital.

The epicenter of the shocks was apparently in the Utso-nomlya-Imaichi area. 70 miles north of Tokyo. Those cities bore the brunt of yesterday's temblors. The third shock was the weakest of all. The homes of 1,600 persoris in Tochigi prefecture were destroyed and the Inhabitants huddled under makeshift tents as snow began falling.

Battalion Chief Hurt Acting Battalion Chief Edwin Schneider, 40, of the 48th Battalion, was the first to mount a ladder and. he took Richard Driscoll from a woman's arms through a window ringed with flames. He handed the child to a fireman and started up the ladder again but was overcome and fell from the ladder, suffering bruises. Other firemen injured were Lt Edward H. Ryan, 36, who suffered burns of both hands; Fireman John Marcinisen, 26, and Fireman Robert Calkins, 29, who suffered and smoke poisoning.

Also overcome by smoke were James Wade, 37; his wife, Delia, 40, and Wade's father, Nicholas Wade, 71. Ryan and Schneldtr were treated at Methodist Hospital, while the remainder of those Injured were taken to Holy Family Hospital. The fire, which was confined to the third floor, was reported to have started In the Driscoil home when an oil stove exploded. The flames were brought under control in an hour. Mn.

Richard Edel Hempstead, Dec. 27 Mrs. Wanda M. Edel, 63, mother of Frederick C. Edel, Hempstead Village trustee, died yesterday at her home, 26 Thorne Ave.

Surviving also are her husband, Richard, who Is connected with the engineering department of Gruman Aircraft Engineering Corporation at Beth-page, and two other sons, J. For nearly 20 years he was proprietor of Adelphl Hospital, selling it In 1941. Three years later he re tired from practice. Surviving are his son, Franklin McChesney and a grandson. assistant principal of Public School l.b, Brooklyn. She had served 41 years in the New York City school system.

Sur viving are two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Bradt of Patchogue and Mrs. Eva Hiler of Central Islip. The Rev. William V.

Mrs. Hildreth, a native of Milanville, had been for manv years a member of the old Tompkins Ave. Congrega tional Church and of the board of managers of the New York Congregational Home for the Aged. Surviving are a nephew, Ralph Kdgerton and Sadie Cal kins who had been her com panion for 41 years. Sister Mary Helen, Hospital Superior Sister Mary Helen of the Franciscan Sisters of St.

Joseph, Superior and Superintendent of St. Mar's Hospital for the pabt nine eats, died yesterday at the hospital after a long illness. Born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Matthew and Elizabeth Kelly, Sister Helen had served as teacher, principal and hospital adminis trator during 17 years of re ligious service. She -was sta tioned nt schools in Holyoke Auburn, N. Detroit Milwaukee and Shamokin, before taking up hospital duties at St.

Mary's. She was a member of the Greater New York Association, the Brooklyn Mos pital Council and the Catholic Hospital Association. Surviving are four sisters Mrs. Ann Walker. Mrs.

Florence Black, Mrs. Emily Keane and Mrs. Alberta Goverick. A solemn mass of requiem will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the St.

Mary's Hospital Chapel. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Buffalo, X. Y. Car Hits Gas Pump As Driver Suffers Fatal Heart Attack A Queens man, stricken by a heart attack today while driving on Horace Harding Boulevard in Flushing, died after heading the car into a gasoline station, where it knocked over a gasoline pump and damaged another car.

The victim, Joseph Cahill, of 94-05 Alstyne Klin-hurst, was pronounced dead by an ambulance physician from Hushing Hospital. A fire was started in the gasoline pump, hut firemen quickly quenched the flames. The station is at 166-01 Horace Harding Boulevard.
