lg BROOKLYN EAGLE, TUE? OCT. 2, 1951 JIMMY, MURPHY'S COLUMN Merc's Your Team: Chieco Squires Hold Edge Over Lincoln Team Won Fint Clash, Deadlocked Second Try Again Sunday Another attempt will he made the Father Chieco Squires of Brooklyn and the in coin squires of Queens to get in a Idoubleheader and try to settle the I.nng Island Squires baseball championship at Highland SEVERE DOUBLE LOSS During the past week. Brooklyn got a double shock and the borough suffered a terrific loss when Alfred A. Tausk. principal of Boys High School, and William H.

(Rill) Dunn, head of the Brooklyn Kiwanis League, died. How the community is going to replace two such TSluable assets to our community life remains to be seen. Principal Tausk was Mr. Boys High Himself. He ate and slept Boys High and woe to him who said anything dis-paringly about his Alma Mater over which he presided so efficiently.

He filled the toughest assignment in the city's school system and made it easy because he became a second father to the students and their troubles were his. His sage advice was always followed and it had a whole lot to do with Bovs High students being so successful in all walks of life. High school athletes lost one of their staunchest friends. He was a champion of sports, but they were secondary to academic work in his hook. He preached the gospel of hitting the books hard to remain eligible for relaxation in sports.

It was nothing to see him personally sit down and help an athlete who was deficient in his studies and up his marks by the process of concentration on the task at hand. He pointed out, the value of being a good student in order to get along in the rough, tough business world. HE'LL BE MISSED No longer will see his smiling face and receie his cheerful greeting at all Boys High athletic events. He seldom missed sport activity in which his school participated and that is why the Red and Black athletes have been so successful in all endeavors. They knew they had their principal behind them.

He was the first to congratulate a boy for an outstanding performance i hether he be from his own school or another institution. At all football games in which Boys High played, Principal Tausk made it his business between halves to march across the field from his cheering -section to that of the opposition to greet the principal, of the other school. KRle Sports Pirtuif was called on account of darkness.

John Mazzallo pitched airtight ball in turning in the two-hit kalsomining job. He retired 10 on strikes. The Chieco combine landed on Hefty Werner of Lincoln for six hits, including a grand-slam home run by Mario Mazzalla, to chase seven runs over in the sixth frame and make the fray a rout. In the second gained Lincoln collected two runs in the second and Chieco shaved the lead in half with one in the third and knotted the isue in the sixth. Ail the kids of the Parade Grounds were his friends and he was never ton busy to give them tips. There are a lot of individuals in the various phases of the business world today who are better men because they came under the influence of Bill Dunn. He had been a landmark at the Parade Grounds for more than 50 years and in that time sent many boys to the minors and two in particular to the majors in Steve l-cmbo of the Dodgers and Tommy Brown, now of the Phillies. They were his most valuable fixtures when he managed the Ty-Cobbs. Bill always kept the Dodgers on the good prospects of the Parade Grounds and they listened to his recommendations because he knew his stuff and should have 1 Li.
