peth, went into Burke's last night with his pet parakeet, Ginger, for a couple of quick ones. The talk turned to baseball and as the argument grew heated a demonstration of Joe DiMaggio's batting swing frightened Ginger. The multi-colored. small-sized parrot took off from Smith's coat pocket and flew over Giant and Yankee fans alike, while the barroom fielders tried to snag it. Then the lovebird took refuge in a partition behind the bar and refused to budge despite clucking noises and promises of beer by Smith.

The police said the partition would have to be ripped out, but owner Burke said nothing doing. He called the American Society for Prevention of cruelty to Animals. Agent Christopher W.
