McCarthy of 1772 E. 31st St. managing editor of the Oil, Paint and Drug Reporter, a weekly, 59 John Manhattan, died yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital. He was 42.

Mr. McCarthy had been a reporter for International News Service, the Philadelphia Record. the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin and the New York News Bureau before he joined the trade publication in 1930 as a market reporter. He became managing editor in 1945. Born in Philadelphia, he was graduated from Villanova College and did post-graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a member of the Chemists Club and the Salesmen's Association of the Chemical Industry. Surviving are his widow, the former Anna Hediger; two sons, Thomas Jr. and Joseph: a sister, Mrs. Raymond T. Clarey of Bronxville, and a brother, John J.

McCarthy of Rye. The funeral will take place at 7:30 a.m. Monday from McManus Funeral Home, 2001 Flatbush with a requiem mass at Good Shepherd R. C. Church.

Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, Pa. Mrs. Louise C. A.

Smith Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Caroline Archinal Smith of 1057 Halsey who died there Wednesday, will be' held at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Koch's Funeral Home, 585 Evergreen Ave. The Rev. C.

F. Intemann, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreens Cemetery Monday morning. Mrs. Smith was born in the Williamsburg section 84 years ago and had lived in Brooklyn all her life.

She was the widow of Frank J. Smith. Surviving are two sons, Joseph Q. and Edward E. Smith, and a daughter, Mrs.

Christian literature is scarce. The great task of American Christians is to help revive. and strengthen the Church of Europe and Lutherans in America must bear the brunt of this work. Both the National Lutheran Council Churches and the Missouri Synod are raising large funds for this purpose. Do your share for the faith by giving liberally in your parish church.
