From the very beginning of the Volksfe3ts the net proceeds have been used for charitable purposes. The German Hospital thanks Its existence chiefly to the I'liittiJiietsuho Volksfest Veren. and the hospital society has been yearly receiving large contributions from the Volksfest proceeds. This year, however, the biggest part of the Burplus will be given to the fund collected for the erection of a new home for aged Germans, the Altenheim. The festival was preceded by an automobile parade in the morning.

The officers of the executive committee assembled at 9 a.m. at the headquarters of the society and rode to the home of last year's Volksfest president, Herman C. Hencke, Kent avenue and Clymer street. Then the party proceeded to the homes of John D. Bruens, the president of this year's affair; Alexander W'uelllng, the chalrniHi) of the executive committee; Fred Winter and John C.

Father V'hlte, it will be recalled, was the much-loved pastor of the Church of the Visitation, and as a fraternal delegate to the Central Labor Union had a warm place in the hearts of the Delegate Hantusch, for the machinists organizations, requested the Indcrjcmont of the Secretary of the Navy's position on Government-constructed armor plate, and asked that the Kings and Queen-repreBcntatlves in Congress, including Senators O'Gorman and Root, be informed of such indorsement. He also requested that the Central Labor Union favor the proposition to appoint one civilian member each on the various wage boards of the navy yards. At present, he said, such boards are made up exclusively of naval officers, who have little appreciation of wage conditions. Both requests were concurred in.
