Fnber, Plaintiff's Attorney, 37t 'itifjii fctvo't, Jamaica, Quevns- County, T. oZZ-H Uwa By decision of the international court of nine judges, announced in La Strategle of Part3 In its current issue, just received here, two studies, entered as N'os.

13 and 15, have been awarded the highest honors among the thirty-one endgames that were submitted to them. Altogether, nine countries were represented on the board ot award. Dr. K. Lasker, the world's champion, ihough residing In Berlin, was assigned to no particular country, the other members being Dr.

S. Tarrasch, Germany; H. Helms. America; C. E.

C. Tattersall, England: Dr. Puig Puig, Spain; A. Goetz, France; C. Salvioll, Italy; Dr.

O. Bernstein, RuESia, and A. Lindstrom, Sweden. Another member, representing Austria, was G. Marco of Vienna, but, owing to pressure of business, he was obliged to withdraw, without rendering a report.

Although among the thirty-one positions there is considerable divergence of opinion as to their relative values, there Is practical unanimity as to Nob. 13 and 15, and their right to occupy first and second places. Especially is this the case with No. 13, the winning position, which was ranked by Dr. Tarrasch.

Tattersall, Goetz, Salvioll and Dr. Bernstein, while Lindstrom gave No. 15 the benefit ot a tie with No. 13. Dr.

Lasker and Helms rnnked it second, but Dr. Puig Puig caused its ranking total to mount up to 29 points by placing it nineteenth. With recard to No. 15, that position was voted the first place by Dr. Lasker, Helms and Dr.

Puig Puig, while Lindstrom gave it equality with No. 13. It was given aonnnH nim-o hv Tattersall and third by Salvioll, while Dr. Tarrasch bracketed It for third and fourth, nut wnai reie8iou this fine position to second position in tho final nword were the votes of Goetz, who ranked it as ninth, and Dr. Bernstein, who set It down as fourteenth, its rana-ing total, therefore, became 35.

or six points higher than that of the winning position. The award will remnln open until November 30, by which thime all claims and corrections must be filed with La Strategle. against the problem without a key, in the Weekiy Tlmoa of tliat place, on October 11: There are various kinds of problem In the AS. But the one that makes the solver sad, I'll own 'twixt you and me, And sometimes nearly drives him mad, Is that without a key.

NOTHER big night was recorded for several of the bowlers in the Greater New York indi-1 virtual chaniDionshiD. and in the four matches rolled two spectacular performances were chalked up. Glenn Riddell and Christy Spinella shared the lishing a new average record for an eight-game series against "Whitey" Ho-ran, and Spinella taking Jimmy Watt into camp in a nine-game scries.

P. J. Riddell folowed in his son's fotsteps and annexed a match from Asa Harris, the Monarch Palace youth, and Paul Loetje scored his second victory of the season against "Bill" Denny at the latter's al- leys. As tne tournament progresnea the wise ones are predicting a brilliant future tor Christy Splnello, the Grand Central youngster, and there seems to bo plenty of ground upon which to base the predictions as the leader has proven that strange alleys hold no terrors tor him and he has even bettered his average while rolling on outside strips. Jimmy Watt was looked upon as the oue man capable of giving Spinella a hard fight, but the Columbia Scotchman was easy picking for tho Brooklyuite.

8plnella assumed the lead in the Itrst two gauus and Watt evened the count In the fourth. Spinella took the filth. Watt the sixth and then Christy went out in the next three games, finislilug the series with an even 200 average. Spinella now has a clear load of two games over-hls nearest rivals for The Kaglo medal honors, Cohn and Hallor trailing close behind, with three victories and one defeat. Glenn Riddell got Into his stride last night and more than made up for the poor Bhowiug of the past week. Glenn met "Whitey" Horan at Koran's Castle Volnt alleys and In an eight-game series tho Metropolitan crack did not hit below 200 once. RlddcH's average of 219 la the best recorded so far this sPason and it will take some exceptional bowling to better that Mark. Horan was In goat form himself, but he could not withstand the terrific assault Klddell made on the pins and the only games captured by "Whitey" were the fourth and sixth when he pinned 227 and 213, respectively. Klddell got the "Jump" early In the match and he annexed the first three games handily, Horan not offering much opposition.

As the match progressed Itlddell got more accustomed to the alleys and his last two scores were the best of the night. In the serrnth game the Metropolitan representative hit for 23(! and in the last game ho spilled the pins for 243. The scores: O. 20 22S 220 200 213 206 236 2 Total, 1,752. Average, 219.

J. Klddell and Asa Harris at the Ansonla alleys, Klddell Just nrfsing out the Monarch Palace youth by four pins In the last game. Harris has had morn than his share of hard luck since the tournament started, as last night's mutch was the second within a week that ho lost in the last frame of the deciding gamo. In his match against Jimmy Watt last week Harris lost out by running into a bad split In his last frame of the eleventh game. Riddell was extremely lucky to win, as Harris had more pins and a better average than the Ansonla representative.

Riddell got off to a flying start'after dropping the first game, taking four In a row. Harris came hack with three straight and evened the count In the tenth game. The majority of games were won by a small margin. Tho scores: P. J.
