DAVIS Ready to assist in solving the service man 1s winning the war, is the Bureau in Brooklyn, with its 80 to service man's proxy. His wife and mother turn to the Family Service Bureau these days. The cases that come to the Family Service Bureau have changed from those of inadequate incomes to emotional difficulties. The service man's wife has had to make numerous adjustments.

no nomic ones and consultMany of the problems. are ecoants are only too glad to assist in budgeting income. In fact a home economist has been added to staff of the central office of the Family Service Bureau. The wife. whose husband is far away sometimes cannot cope with the housekeeping problems or with her children.

Some youngsters. used to their fathers' discipline, are inclined to get out of hand and take advantage of their mothers. The Salvation Army bureau is there to help answer the unusual probof behavior that result from emotional disturbances of broken homes. Often the mothers the of taking war jobs but what about the needs must be considered. The Salvation Army attends to that.

Another wartime matter the bureau solves is that of persons trying to live with their relatives. A service man's wife might find it necessary to live with her motherin-law or a sister-in-law. and being accustomed to managing her own home finds situation intolerable. Again the Family Service Bureau helps to think these problems through, showing the way to happier homes. Cases of deep emotional disturbance may be referred to the psychiatric clinic of the Salvation Army.

The unnatural excitement of war has increased the work of the Family Service Bureau at 130 Clinton St. The bureau is the direction of Mrs. Violet Randall Roach, district secretary. Social workers for the Brooklyn district are Miss Elsie Robertson and Miss Charlotte H. Farr.

Miss A. A. Buffington is a case supervisor borough offices. The advisory" committee of the Salvation Army, of which Mortimer H. Michaels is chairman.

Children's Home Directors to Meet The monthly meeting of Women's Board of Directors of the Children's Home of the Long Island Baptist Association will be held at the Hanson Place Baptist Church. 88 Hanson Place, on Tuesday at 1:45 o'clock. The Rev.

The Family Service 100 cases a month, has become the connected with wartime are forever with Salvation Army. deaf. the blind and the aged must be cared for. The delinquent children, the mentally sick, the deserted family, as well as those requiring financial assistance, all need help.

The social workers at the Salvation Army Family Service Bureau study each individual situation to find out the root of the difficulty and help their clients reach their own conclusions. The results may mean use of the resources within the Salvation Army or community facilities. The Army provides institutions for men, women and children; nursery care, legal aid, hospitalization, clinical care, camp vacations, and even a missing persons service. Those who flock to the Family Service Bureau at 130 Clinton St. go because know of the Army's great reputation and unselfish purpose helping their fellow men.

However, other social agencies, churches, schools and contributors have spread the news of the good work of the Family Service Bureau. The bureau is looking for a day when there will be a new unit protective care for those unable to feel responsible for themselves. men and women not sick enough to be in hospitals. There are no resources. for such people at the and that particular problem remains unsolved.

It is for this work of the Family Home Bureau, along with other activities too numerous to mention here. that the campaign for $75,000 started this month. Walter Bruchhausen is general chairman, Richard B. Loomis is head of the men's division and Miss Bess Bloodworth is chairman of the women's committee. The Family Service Bureau can really be considered one of the vital departments of the Salvation Army.

For the guiding idea of the Rev. William Booth, founder and general of the Salvation Army in 1865. when the Army was created, was to aid the wretched in London. And so the Family Service Bureau carried on and 80 years later now is healing the minds and spirits of unhappy Brooklynites.
